Just a disclaimer; Sebring Raceway is 7 miles away and if the wind is right you can hear the cars racing, also, lake Istokpoga is big for airboats so we do hear them running some but they are usually quiet at night. You will possibly see cows, bobcats, wild turkeys, wild pigs, armadillos, birds, or the neighbors dogs might show up. Don’t worry, they are quite friendly. We have a 50 amp RV Hookup with NO septic and plenty of space for primitive camping. Bring your horse, but there is no paddock or barn. The storage building on the premises is not part of the rental, please leave it alone. There is electricity and non-potable water. The water is safe for teeth brushing, washing dishes, and showering, but it does have a very strong smell of sulfur. There is an outhouse. Please use it sparingly & only flush toilet paper provided. There is an outside sink, an outside shower with no privacy, a picnic table and a fire pit. If you come with your RV, please use your RV toilet. There will be a major fine for any septic dumping. 1/3 of the land is cleared and 2/3 is full of mature oak trees and trails. It is fenced with barbed wire fencing. Please keep your food trash in your cars & take it with you. You do not want to attract predators. You can recycle, or throw away any trash that is not related to food in the garbage can. Keep an eye on your small dogs. There are also snakes and predatory birds. It is hard with words to describe the beauty of this property, so please check out the pictures. Happy Camping!

I camped here a few nights while visiting friends in Winter Haven. It's perfect for that, or for visiting nearby Legoland/Cypress Gardens, and close enough to the wonderful downtown area to ride my bike. Nice view of the little marina, and mere blocks away from a Publix and some fast-food chains. The site feels safe in a nice neighborhood, has full hookups, and a responsive host. As another reviewer mentioned, these sites do back up to a modestly-busy road behind the privacy fence, unfortunately right next to a stop sign, making any vehicle with a noisy motor especially loud as they accelerate from a stop. However, inside my camper I couldn't hear it much, at least not over the sound of my own A/C unit, and it certainly didn't affect my sleep. Only other "cons" to these sites are that there are no picnic tables or fire rings onsite, and no campfires allowed. Note that the oak tree in Site #1 covers that site and Site #2, and the shade really helps under the hot sun. However, if you want to deploy a Starlink for internet, you probably want Site #3 (I used cellular in Site #2, though, and had strong signal on both AT&T and Verizon networks).

Wonderful place! No playground, but still soooo much for the kids to do! Swimming pool, fishing, perfect for riding bikes, riding scooters, passing the football, enjoying nature, just being outside! 10/10 recommend and bring a golf cart if you have one (they are also available to rent). The Cowboy Cajun food truck (DELICIOUS) and camp store were wonderful! They had a raffle for a local girls softball team going on at the pavilion too! We will definitely be back and will tell everyone about Camp Mack!

We loved this camp. The RVport was perfect. The cover provided great shade and we had our own little sitting area. It looked out over the garden area. The pool was a nice size and there was an umbrella shading part of it. The whole area is beautifully landscaped and there are plenty of tables and chairs for sitting. Not to mention the fountain and fire pit areas. Our dogs loved being able to roam off leash as well as having our own area in the RVport. We enjoyed happy hour with Jaime and Bolton and the neighbors. They are thoughtful hosts. We can't wait to return!

Weekend Trip to Lakeside Tranquility Camp

The land and lake were beautiful and despite it being in a “neighborhood,” the camping space felt nice and private. Joe was very nice and made sure we were comfortable, and even let us borrow his canoe. Bring your own firewood, as it is difficult to come by in the area. During the day, the Lake Istokpoga was VERY loud, filled with airboats and all sorts of noise, though we did camp over Easter weekend and fortunately the boat noise subsided once the sun went down. Then the gators started snoring, which was entertaining, haha! All in all, a lovely stay!

Well maintained grounds, Jaime is always doing something. Both Jaime and Bolton is super helpful if you should need any assistance. It is a wonderful layed back environment and so peaceful. Every evening we would get together on the patio and just chat. Totally enjoyed and can't wait to go back... My dog and I loved my site we had... Utility services were great!!!

This is one for wildlife lovers! With more rare and endangered species than any other Florida state park, animal sightings await around every tree at Highlands Hammock State Park. Look out for white-tailed deer, gopher tortoises, and black bears from the Cypress Swamp boardwalk, take a tram ride to spot alligators along the South Canal, and spy raptors, songbirds, and wading birds around the wetlands. You might even spot a Florida panther slinking through the woodlands. After exploring the hiking trails, rent a bike to tackle the biking trail, visit the Florida Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, then check into the RV campground. Highlands Hammock Campground has water and electric hookups, and an on-site dump station. There are also several drive-in primitive campsites in the park’s wilderness.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve one of the RV campsites or primitive campsites at Highlands Hammock Campground via the Florida State Parks Reservation website.
Florida residents can make campsite reservations 11 months in advance, while non-residents can make reservations 10 months in advance.
Campsites can book up as fast, especially over holiday weekends, so book at least three months in advance.

When to go

Florida’s summers can be hot, humid, and wet, and the trails can get muddy—fall, winter, and spring provide much better weather for hikers. Peak season runs from October through May, when ranger-led guided tours and campfire circles are held in the park, and tram tours run daily. Winter and spring are also great times for birding and wildlife watching.

Know before you go

Highlands Hammock State Park is set seven miles west of Sebring, about a 15-minute drive. It can be reached in less than two hours from Orlando, Fort Myers, and Tampa.
A day pass is required for Florida State Parks, and campsite booking fees also apply.
Facilities at Highlands Hammocks include a rentable amphitheatre and picnic pavilions, restrooms, picnic tables and grills, and a playground. Wifi is not available at the park.
There are accessible campsites, restrooms, and picnic areas at Highlands Hammocks State Park. The tram tours and CCC Museum are also accessible.
Dogs are permitted at the state park but must be kept on a six-foot, hand-held leash at all times.

Highlands Hammock Campground

Cool place to camp and beautiful scenery. I stayed one night in January 2015 and really enjoyed my stay but didn't like the proximity to the road nearby (traffic noise). Book a site furthest from the roads for best experience.
