Everything went well except for the weather, which they had no control of. Enjoyed our stay, we were there for 4 days visiting family in the area. The Baumgartens are wonderful host, checking on us every night to be sure we okay. We were in our self contained motorhome, so we weathered the storms just fine. There camp site was was beautiful and well maintained. We really enjoyed the solitude and peaceful site. We will definitely stay there again. We have recommend them out family and friends.

The directions were clear. We met Sam in the morning at Main St Cafe. He was great! The place is very special. Sam has a vision and it’s unfolding. Be nice if the dust and cobwebs were wiped off the surfaces you want to put your things on but it is a lovely vibe. We stayed in the Homestead Cabin. The smell of earth and wood was wonderful and impressive to see his creativity.

What a great experience! Pretty views, coyotes in the background. And right by the wildlife refuge. The camp is just behind a great little restaurant and bar. Kelly & Darrell were great hosts. It is important to recognize you are out in nature - landscape, critters, snakes are not your friends - but I felt safe and comfortable the whole trip. Loved Hippie Hill!

I camped for a week at the river site and it was a fantastic time. It is 100% private except for the occasional barge. The site backs up to forest which feels 20 degrees cooler so it'd be great during summer. The shade is plentiful! I will be back for sure. The path down to the site can be a little iffy so I'd recommend 4x4 if there has been recent heavy rainfall. The hosts are some of the kindest people I have met. They are warm and genuinely care about your experience.

Our campsites are BYOS sites: We do not provide outhouses or tent potties at our sites, so you must bring your own. We do, however, provide a full restroom with shower/bath at the main house during reasonable hours and have a septic for you to dispose of your waste (during open hours) so you don't have to travel with it. Welcome and we hope you enjoy yourselves and get a glimpse of a little bit of what our tierheim visitors enjoy when they come here. Local History About 65 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, near the junction of Highways 81 and 17, was a sign that said: "Welcome to Rush Springs, home of 1500 happy faces and a few old soreheads." Now the sign says: "Welcome to Rush Springs." Also, there is a giant watermelon slice indicating that Rush Springs is also the Watermelon Capital. Rush Springs gets its name from the large springs near the head of Rush Creek from which the town gets its water supply. It is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) settlements in Grady County, Oklahoma. The history of Rush Springs may be divided into six periods. The first period leads up to 1858. The springs served as a camping site for Indian tribes from very early days. The Wichita Indians settled on Rush Creek about four miles southeast of the present town around 1850. It was at this place that the famous "Battle of the Wichita Village" was fought between the Comanches and the United States Calvary on October 1, 1858. After this battle, the Wichitas fled to Fort Arbuckle. The second period deals with the Chisholm cattle trail (1865-1892). Thousands of heads of cattle were driven northward across the territory over this trail from Texas to Kansas. This trail passed about one and a half miles east of the town, and the springs served as a watering place for the cattle. This trail ceased to be used after the railroad was built across the territory in 1892. Parts of this trail can still be seen today. The third period covers the years 1871-1878. Fort Sill had just been established. Supplies had to be shipped to Fort Sill from points in the eastern part of Indian Territory. After the building of the railroad across the eastern part of the territory, Caddo became the main shipping point. Rush Springs was between Caddo and Fort Sill. A stage stand was built and a little town sprang up. When the government freight station was moved from Caddo to Texas, the little town nearly died. The years 1878-1892 make up the fourth period. The "Huntley Ranch" was established on Rush Creek near the site of the old Wichita Village. The ranch became a stage stand and a freight station for local settlers. A post office, known as "Parr," was established at this place in 1883. In 1892, this post office was moved to Rush Springs. The fifth period begins in the year 1892, when the Rock Island Railroad came through the springs. It became a government freight station to Fort Sill for nine years, resulting in rapid growth of the town. The sixth period dates from 1901 when the Rock Island Railroad lines were extended to Fort Sill and Lawton, thus ceasing the freight trade at Rush Springs. The town has since depended on ranching, farming and oil interest for its existence. The site is walk in only, about 100 yards, so bring your wheel barrow or cart, although the property is 15 acres in its entirety, the campsite is on about a quarter acre with one large central site and a few alcove sites. We do have neighbors up the hill, but there is NO Visual of these houses. Sometimes neighborhood kids ride their 4 wheelers down our road and use our cul-de-sac to turn around, and you might occasionally hear them, but you can't see them and they can't see you, but most of the time it's very quiet.

Secluded spots with level, cleared areas are available for tent campers and parking. Park near main road and camp close to your vehicle. Several options are available for vehicle access. Busses, smaller campers, and vans may choose pull in locations with option to stay hitched or park separately. My location is about 8 miles due west of the little town of Caney, Oklahoma. I’m very rural, no close neighbors, 19 acres of pasture and woods. Plenty of places to park, one area is back in the woods a bit with water and 50 amp service, others strictly boondocking. There’s not much “close” to me but I’m kind of centrally located between Atoka, Texoma and McGee lakes. Boggy depot state park and Fort Washita is close by and south of me is the Choctaw Casino. It’s very quiet and no nighttime lights so there’s an awesome night sky. Please check out the map I've included in my photos for precise directions. The last 2.5 miles to get to my house is by gravel road and my entrance may be a bit difficult to spot but my name and address is on the big black mailbox. Just turn in and cross the cattle guard and go through the driveway into the open field. Parking is on the north side of the drive along the tree line or back in the woods. Don’t hesitate to contact me directly for directions. If you follow my guidance, you should have no problem finding me or turning into my drive. Pets are welcome but I suggest they remain on a leash if you’re around my house or other campers and please clean up after them. The open field around my house is not always mowed because my neighbor cuts the hay and I like the spring wildflowers. I try to keep a walking path around my place but I travel too so at times it may not be well maintained. Since I do travel a lot, I may not be home when you arrive. Please make yourself at home and leave the place as you found it. Thank you!

This private one acre lot is for only ONE RV nearby Broken Bow Lake, OK (less than 2 miles away). This is a heavily wooded one acre lot comes with electric, septic and water. This lot is very close to the state parks and located in the area called Hochatown. The lot is less than 1/4 mile from the center of Hochatown but very private and quiet. There is a long level pad in the center of the lot. We have 50 amp power (30 amp if you have an adapter) for your RV. There is a shed on the lot but that is for personal use. Our lot is right off Steven's Gap road on the way to the lake. If you like to fish the lake is less than 2 miles down the road and the river access is close by at Beaver's Bend State Park. The area is abundant with wild life with plenty to do and see.

Overview

Set in the Great Plains region of the United States, in Oklahoma you'll find camping opportunities among sweeping grasslands, quiet forests, waterfalls, and an abundance of lakes. Much of the state’s expansive natural areas are protected by the state park system, and Oklahoma also has the longest drivable stretch of the famous Route 66, which passes by all sorts of roadside attractions and historic towns, crossing through the state's two major cities—Tulsa and Oklahoma City—along the way.

Western Oklahoma

Characterized by diverse landscapes, western Oklahoma’s popular spots include Little Sahara State Park, which features desert-like dunes popular for off-roading, and Alabaster Caverns State Park, where visitors can explore one of the largest natural gypsum caves on earth. You can even go digging for selenite crystals in the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge or go rappelling in the Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park.

Central and South-Central Oklahoma
