Clean and cozy cabin surrounded by farm animals and a minute walk away from the Van Duzen river. Highly recommend if you're looking to disconnect. Road to get there can be rough, a car with some ground clearance is recommended.

Sticks for Sophie
My 4 year old son and I had a memorable stay at the farm. We slept in the tiny house on our air mattress because Leo was scared to sleep in the loft, but the loft looked awesome. Eloise and Munroe were so kind and let us help with farm chores and eat as much fruit as we could carry. The absolute highlight is the river spot swimming hole. It’s priceless to have the river all to yourself. The farm is a trip and it’s worth the trip! Epic dog Sophie who will guide and guard you throughout the journey is an absolute gem!

Camping with a purpose!
Pastoral relaxation describes our stay at Humboldt Experience Farmstay. Our kind hosts, Munro and Eloise, welcomed my husband and I to the property upon our arrival and immediately made us feel right at home. During our stay at Humboldt Experience Farmstay, we lodged in a beautifully crafted structure on the property near an abundant grove of fruit-bearing trees. The lodging, and, in fact, the whole property, was very clean and extremely well taken care of. Munro and Eloise adhere to permaculture principles, and are passionate about sharing their enthusiasm to preserve the ecology. Their commitment to the improvement of the environment is evident with every turn of the head. The whole place is off-grid done right: From the delicious farm-to-table spread, to sustainable energy implementation, this Hipcamp is a true inspiration to anyone who loves nature and wants to learn more about adopting a way of life that helps protect it. My husband and I were able to learn a bit about pickling and canning during our brief stay, and would happily return to fully immerse ourselves in Munro and Eloise’s pickling experience (they make some out-of this-world fig marmalade). It’s tough to choose just one highlight from our stay at Humboldt Experience Farmstay: swimming in the river; sharing great conversations and delicious meals with new friends; learning more about permaculture; sampling the ripe, delicious fare. Getting a delightful sweat on in the sauna; There are many wonderful memories!

Great place to stay!
My partner and I had a great time at Munro's and would have gladly stayed longer if we had the time (we were only there for one night). The farm is peaceful and beautiful and we got a little tour of the garden and enjoyed some of the delicious fresh fruit. It's also a short walk down to the river for some lovely swimming - not only was it beautiful, but we had it all to ourselves! Accommodations are basic but comfortable. They had a composting toilet, which could have had a little more privacy but was ok for me. We had a shower with hot water and some frog friends. :) Be aware the road is pretty rough in one spot for a basic passenger car - we almost got stuck going up the hill on the way out but fortunately made it ok. Munro, Eloise, and the other people we met there were all very welcoming and we really enjoyed spending a little time chatting with them. They were also generous in sharing some fresh produce from the garden as well as a salad when we arrived and some tea in the morning. We also bought some of their canned goods and they were all delicious! My only regret is not buying more! Overall I would highly recommend staying at Munro's (and buying some goodies) as long as you are ok with the rustic conditions and the bumpy road.

Dogs and goats and bears, oh my!
Munro is awesome, I felt like I was part of the family from the moment we arrived. We got there shortly before dark and so he helped us get settled with parking close to the lean-to and made sure we knew where everything was. That night the dogs were barking and I could hear them running around the lean-to. The next day, I found out there was a bear on the property, and the dog's fully protected us!!! The next morning we went swimming in the river and Munro invited us to breakfast of food that he mostly grew on the property, we added some food we brought and everyone ate together before we left for our next adventure. It was a really magical stay!!!

Off-Grid Fab Farm Stay
A couple years back I decided I’d devote myself to learning to grow food and other plants and learn to be more self sustaining. Staying at farms has changed me from a plant killer to a green thumb.
Munro’s cottages are custom build by him using local materials. His several gardens are delicious to eat right from the plants and make meals from. In addition, I love Oswald the goat and Roomie the cow, limpy the rooster, and all the other cast of characters on munro’s farm.
We had a chance to participate in apple juice pressing, chicken coop deconstruction, and spending time at the river.
New folks from places near and far came during our stay which led to some great conversations and some laughter too.
This experience showed me what off-grid living can look like. What a paradise to experience. I now call Munro and Eloise friends.
The digital detox was needed and this stay made that possible.
I’ll be back.

We loved this farm! Munro was a great and gracious host. The farm is tucked away down a windy dirt road, but when you get there you're greeted by an very cool assortment of little buildings, animals, and plants. Our dogs were fascinated by the turkeys, goats, and cows, and we loved walking through the vegetable garden and down to the river.

This farm blew my mind. What Munro has built and created on his land is nothing short of amazing. He has several huge and extremely impressive gardens, so many types of farm animals that are loved, and one of the BEST river access points I have ever experienced. Not to mention, Munro and the people working on the farm were so nice, and inclusive, and made me feel like I was a part of their family. They invited me to eat delicious farm-fresh meals every day, we built a fire, and swam at the river. It was really cool to see the farm at work. He has a work-stay program, as well as hipcamp educational trips - you can stay on the farm for 1/2 price if you help out on the farm and learn about working on a farm and taking care of the garden and animals! I really enjoyed this stay, and the unit was a perfect size for 1 person and 2 dogs.
Thanks for a wonderful stay Munro and friends!!

Permaculture permacozy farm
I wish we had more time to stay longer here in this little off grid permaculture farm!
Our car is a basic sedan, and in dry weather the last 1/2 mile of hilly dirt road was no problem to drive into. Our stay was wonderful. Munro was very kind and helped us arrive later than expected. We arrived after 12 hours of driving full of our personal stress and Munro was exceedingly accommodating, generous, comforting and went above and beyond to put us at ease. This farm is genuinely one of my favorite discoveries and I hope to return soon! The layout of the farm was like a cozy mini village. As a city person, the outhouse privacy curtain felt super minimal but this is true off grid farm life so it was to be expected. If you’re traveling through this region I would highly recommend this wonderful scenic farm stay.

Commune with Nature
The space Munro created with the land was really something very special. If you are looking for a sacred space to immerse yourself in the natural world, this is the place for you.
The energy of the trees and the river was vibrant and teaming with life. We swam in the river and floated on our inner tube all day, never once missing having access to Internet or phone service. ( one spot on the property had cell service but I was happy not to use it.)
Part of the property is an organic farm with ducks, goats and 2 beautiful and well behaved farm dogs.
Although we originally went to the property to find solitude, we found Monroe to be such a delight we ended up sharing tea with him and some of the beautiful folks who were helping him with the farm. Eloise was a knowledgeable and radiant young woman who runs the farm and we purchased delicious freshly jarred jams, pickles, and fruit from. All of the people there respected that we might be there for seclusion and it was definitely us who kept the conversations and interactions going.
Munro has created many beautiful places for visitors to meditate, practice yoga, and create music. I recommend this place for any individuals, groups and or Sanghas who want to have a place for retreats.
We will be returning.

Munro and Eloise are the best hosts!! The farm has a beautiful shower, a community firepit which we shared with amazing and fun people, multiple gardens, a clean kitchen and dining area, a sauna (!!!), two sweet doggos, and nice comfortable rooms with wood stoves.
We worked in the garden during the morning, went swimming in the river after lunch, feed the animals or do other work for a bit before dinner. Eloise is a great cook and the ingredients are all fresh from the farm!!
I can't wait to come back.

Wonderful hosts and property!
Munro and Eloise have a special spot near the most majestic trees on earth at Humboldt Redwood State park. Their property is "off the grid" and they grow most of their own food. Incredibly resourceful people and very inspiring! Accommodations are extremely comfortable, and there's a refreshing river nearby to cool off in the summer when the temps can climb. Highly recommended!

One of the best sleeps in sometime, cool breeze through the lean to; the dark starlight sky another treat.
So peacefully quiet — even with the chickens, turkeys! Inspiring to see/hear of the farm projects completed and yet to be. Especially Loved the Big garden and the produce out of it.
Only regret was such a short stay!

I am taking a minute to review Munro himself prior to the actual Lean-To. (which is very cool, clean, with beautiful stained glass elements greeting you at the door)
Munro is himself in possession of a great deal of skill and farm/life wisdom which he sprinkled around his truly magical farm…. He is approachable and kind with a profound understanding of the human condition. The various 3-5 foot tall stone Buddha statues from Bali greeted me wherever I walked ..
The farm is a tight run and love filled community where the delicious and energy filled meals and extra time spent teaching and making each guest comfortable are but a small core sample of the great times to be had.
I am truly happy to have come.
Booking again with family!!

Awesome Permaculture Experience
My visit to Munro's farm was awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs an escape from day-to-day life and wants to better connect with the land and themselves. I stayed in a storage container that has been converted into a cozy cabin with a wood stove and comfy bed, and I am already planning on visiting again. My favorite parts were being able to pick fresh food from the veggie gardens and orchards and eating right from the earth, as well as visiting with the many animals living on the farm (like goats, turkeys, sheep, and more).
Munro's homestead was my first experience with permaculture but in a short time I was able to learn a lot about the history of the property and some of his future plans to evolve the farm in order to become even more self-sustainable. If you are interested in the principles of permaculture or have no experience with it at all, Munro's farm is perfect to either gain hands-on experience or simply be introduced. I couldn't recommend it enough.
Enjoy your visit!

Happy times in Humboldt
I stayed at Munro’s lean-to for one night and I’m already planning to return for a longer stay! After finishing up a year of college, I was ready to completely disconnect and return to nature for a while. This place couldn’t have been more perfect. The lean-to was cozy and simple, with a shelf for storage, candles, and beautiful stained glass windows. The animals made me smile so much- make sure to meet Ozzie the goat! I loved heating up in the sauna and jumping in the river afterwards, capping off the day with a delicious nettle pasta and a campfire. Truly a one-of-a-kind place that I feel lucky to have experienced. I’d recommend this place to people of all ages looking to reconnect with themselves and the world around us. Some tips: bring headlamps for navigating the farm at night, lanterns (preferably solar powered) to light up your cabin, things to relax and stay busy with like books and games, and an open mind to different food experiences! Munro’s place is now a landmark of Humboldt for me. Check it out for yourself!

Farm animals, gardens, river and fo
This stay was a magical oasis, nestled between magical redwood forest with trails and the river, on a lovely, open meadow. I only wish I could have stayed a full week to really get involved in the farm tasks. Beautiful bathhouse, fresh farm eggs and strawberries, refreshing river dips, gardening tasks, and a wonderful, truly farm to table lunch were the hilights for me.
