Just off State Route 1 lies a gorgeous coastal area north of San Francisco. There are plenty of things to do here. The suggestive beach names give you a clue. Leave your car in the parking lot and take the loop hiking trails through Pomo Canyon. Hit Shell Beach to find some natural souvenirs in the tide pools.
Hit the waves at Salmon Creek Beach. Surround yourself with sand at Portuguese Beach and Schoolhouse Beach for some picnicking and sunbathing. Explore secret coves among the natural rock outcroppings, especially during low tide at Goat Rock Beach. Keep an eye on the strong waves that may come close to the beach.
Also, keep your distance from the colony of harbor seals. These seals come to Goat Rock to give birth every year. It's fun to watch t

Wow…this place is HUGE! The sites are decent and you will get some privacy, but you'll also most likely see/hear your neighbors. Hike along spectacularly beautiful sandy dunes right next to the campsites. Remember, it can get a little windy on some days, so stake your tent and bring a windbreaker.
