The first time we viewed this property, we knew we were home.
The woods, fields, wildlife, and house (created almost entirely from the lumber harvested from the land) drew us in. We purchased the home and 40 acres in 2018.
Since then it has been a labor of love to make it everything we dream.
A campground suitable for horseback riding was the goal for W15266.
This was where the original homestead stood (firepit area).
That home was transported across 95 on Davis road to become an Amish home.
This area was overgrown and filled with rubbish, but still had a great deal of suitable plants hidden in the raspberries. We are continually working to groom it, and eventually, hope to better level the drive and sites and cover them with gravel.
We need more and better fire pits and intend to have at least one more cabin- perhaps created from a refurbished corn crib?
This cabin was refurbished in 2020 from the original homestead’s summer kitchen (where food was prepared to keep the house from getting too warm).
Although it may have been easier to demolish and start over, Julie convinced Craig that the history was worth it. ;) I can’t tell you how disGUSTING it was, but we found treasures like the chair upstairs, the ironing board, and items on the walls and cupboards amongst the piles of Asian beetles and mouse chewings.
Our current project you see in front is the bath/shower house.
It has a toilet and shower and was completed 2021. With expansion, we will add one more toilet on the other side.
The old shed in front, is a disaster.
We fluctuate the same way we did with the summer kitchen: bulldoze or refurbish? It currently houses our equipment and lumber, but someday, we are hoping to have a small country Tiki bar.
Craig has received the liquor license already.
We love tucked away country bars with unique flavors, so we hope we can offer this to our customers.
Jeske Equestrian is also a boarding/training facility.
We built the horse barn in 2019, and last year we put up a 60x180 indoor riding arena.
Maintaining and creating trails has been extensive.
Keeping up on the signage and the trail map has been nearly impossible since Craig loves creating new ones with the skid steer on a regular basis!
We are working on the pond area to be more recreational in our future as well.

We loved staying on Candace’s land! Our kids and dogs felt right at home. It was upscale tent camping. We had a great outdoor fire for breakfast, dinner, and s’mores and a great indoor fire to keep us warm on the cool fall nights.
The beds were comfortable - especially when you’re used to a tent and a camping pad! And the house heated up so nicely. It was really nicely stocked - we normally bring tongs, spatula, etc. but there were some hung on the cabin which was a nice touch. It was really nice not to get service for a few days, enjoy the scenery, and bum around local towns. We’d absolutely stay again. ❤️

I’m so grateful for my time at Hill Camp. It felt like a dream waking up every morning as the sun rose over meadows full of aster and goldenrod. Sue and Allen were warm and kind and gave me great tips for places to check out, including an Amish bakery nearby! At night, you can see the Milky Way and hear full convos between owls and katydids and even (I think!) coyotes. During hunting season, you might periodically hear gun shots in the distance, but only during the day. In terms of amenities, the port-a-potty is very close, and if you need access to a sink or electricity, they have both at their cute little greenhouse down the way. This was my first time camping at a farm, and I can’t wait to come back and do it all over again 🥹🌾✨

We had a wonderful weekend tent camping at Good Root Growers farm! The fields are beautiful. Our campsite was secluded and shady, but still felt open and had a great view of the farm. We loved going on walks through the field, eating farm fresh vegetables, and, of course, playing with Poncho the farm dog. It was also super convenient to have such easy access to firewood.

Located in a beautiful rural area. The bathroom building was great! We visited the Lake Wazee Recreation area and that was beautiful. The electric ped had 20/30/50. We didn’t have horses, so I’m sure that would made it even better. Very nice stay.

This was my third stay at Good Root Growers — it’s become my go-to Hipcamp because it’s only 1 1/2 hours from the Twin Cities. I can always count on Allen and Sue to be very welcoming. The property is pretty and so peaceful! There is no traffic noise. All I heard at night were crickets and an owl - nice.

None of the noises were persistent and the surrounding area is beautifully rural. Julie is friendly and communicative. A pleasant pit stop during a long trip!

Loved Kickback’s Angler Shack! Communication was great from Jolene. The property and cabin were so well kept. The raspberry bushes were a plus. We spent the majority of our time in the river and by the fire. The grill and amenities were a plus! We will definitely be back!

Clean, safe, peaceful, serene.
We like to camp mostly, but we decided to leave the tent at home. The cabin is great because it doesn’t have electricity and running water— it maintains the adventure and rustic feeling of camping while proving a beautiful sleeping and living space in an amazing valley.
The other good thing is that there isn’t really cell service— perfect place to disconnect. My wife and I had a wonderful time just being together without any screens between us.
This truly is one of the last best places out there.

We had a great stay at the Serenity Valley cabin! It’s a beautiful and very comfortable spot - a double bed on the first floor with a cozy fireplace, a couple of chairs and a cot. The host also left a lantern, first aid kit, additional trash bags, toilet paper and paper towels. Upstairs in the small loft area are two extra beds but it was way too hot up there during our stay. Out in the porch there is a couple more places to sit and a big table that helps with any food prepping + some basic cooking utensils (metal spatula, tongs, etc). Loved waking up to all the birds singing and watching the fireflies right outside at nightime!
The hosts generosity, recommendations about activities onsite and surrounding areas and comfortable amenities make this place a step up from your regular camping. The fireplace was our favorite spot, 10/10 would recommend!

We’re really happy we found Julie’s land! It’s perfect for what we need for a night’s stay. The area was clean and we enjoyed the nature around us (as we’re the only one camping that night 😉). The electric hookup was so appreciated as we were able to use our air conditioning in this summer heat. It’s peaceful, perfectly tucked away just the right distance from town, and has everything you could possibly need. Weekend Trip to Kickback’s Angler Shack
Jolene was great and very hospitable! A welcome retreat near the cities. Beautiful property, lovely host, cozy cabin.
Really loved sitting on the deck in the matching rocking chairs. Enjoyed the amazing breeze when windows open. Comfortable sleeping options (including the futon). Very easy walk from the parking area to the cabin. Path is compacted and wide. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Very impressed! Also many gorgeous wildflowers and wildlife around.
Only thing to be mindful of is the compost toilet is taller because of its design, so those with mobility limitations should just be aware. (Sturdy step-stool is provided). That being said, it is a really nice compost toilet.
