Beaver Point Cabin

cabin is an off-grid, 12'X20' insulated structure, with a 7'X8' loft and a 12'X6' screened covered porch/deck. That overlooks a small stream and a cattail marsh. It is in the center of our 90 acres and is very private but near to some rural houses, only our house is (barely) visible in winter and you might see some lights of one other neighbor when the leaves are off the trees. We are 1 and a half miles from the village of Belleville and 5 miles from New Glarus. The Badger State Trail runs across the western edge of our property. It connects with the Sugar River State Trail 8 miles away. Near by New Glarus has many shops, restaurants, Baily's Run winery and the famous New Glarus Brewery (tours daily). Everything can be easily reached by bike or, in season, snowmobile. The marsh is a haven for all sorts of birds and wildlife. Spring brings an abundance of winged migrators and returning residents. There are: sand hill cranes, red wing blackbirds, a number of ducks; buffleheads, mergansers, woodducks, blue winged teal and shovelers just to name a few. The American woodcock can be heard overhead most spring mornings and evenings. The spring peepers (small frogs) are a symphony on their own and they continue into early summer. The woods has many spring flowers and the fall colors are wonderful. In summer there are many song birds like: bluebirds, finches, orioles, humming birds, cedar wax wings, robins, cardinals and herons. Sitting on the screened in deck one can hear a kaleidoscope of bird songs and activity. And an abundance of fireflies in later May through late July and then some. The cabin is off-grid, what that means is: there is NO RUNNING WATER in the cabin and only a chemical toilet (port-a-potty). A limited amount of water is supplied for drinking and washing. There is a sink with a drain in the cabin but no bathroom or refrigerator so bring a cooler. Very limited electricity. There is basic LED lighting and you will be able to charge your phones/devices. The power is supplied from batteries/inverter charged by solar panels on the roof. There are LED lights and a coffee maker. There is NO air conditioning but excellent ventilation and a small, cozy wood stove for heat. If you're uncomfortable or unfamiliar with a wood stove, it may not be wise to stay here in the winter heating season, but we can show most people how to use the stove safely. This is still considered "camping" so be prepared to bring camping gear: your own pillows, sleeping bag, food, drinks, cups, plates, cooking utensils etc. There are carryout options a short drive away. The only thing you won't need is a tent, the cabin is very cozy, warm on the cold days and cool on the warm ones and there is a picnic table, lawn chairs and a gas grill with a side burner. There are a few spots around the cabin for tents if you have additional friends staying. There is an additional charge for additional guests (over 2) but please be advised: any loud "parties" or disturbances and you will be asked to leave. This is a place to enjoy nature and quiet time. To get away from it all. No extra charge for children 12 or under. Insects are a part of the woods environment, if you're afraid of bugs this may not be the right fit for you. We rarely have any real issues, so we're reluctant to use toxic chemicals to kill most (normal) bugs. Normal bug repellent is about all that is necessary. Why we have this cabin; It's a way to share this special place that, judging from the artifacts found here has been a camping area for thousands of years. We want to let others enjoy the seasons; the return of the migrating birds, the spring peepers in the marsh, the fall colors, the silence of a winter day in the woods and the warmth of a wood stove. (many people have found the stove to be their favorite feature) The cabin gives you a front row seat in the middle of, comparatively, pristine nature. Campers will have access to our fine trails for hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and biking. (we would allow a snowmobile from the State trail to the cabin). All campers take note: 1. Please do your best to arrive/check in before dark! The cabin is dark; no yard lights, no streetlights, and if it isn’t a moonlit night, it IS very dark. Some of you are not used to real darkness. We provide some flashlights and headlamps (if you forgot yours) and there are LED lights in the cabin we keep charged for you. Camping headlamps are great for cooking, using the port-a-potty and finding your way around, etc. Bring yours or you can borrow ours, just ask. 2. Take safety precautions with the wood stove and learn how to use it correctly. The only source of heat in the cabin is a small, very nice wood stove. Those without any experience with using wood for heat are advised not to stay at the cabin during the cold season. Those that are eager to learn--we can help you, but safety is very important and you must at least have some basic skills to handle wood heat: using a propane torch, using kindling, splitting wood, operating the stove airflow. 3. Campfires: Campfire wood can be purchased for a reasonable price @$10 for a tote, or @$20 for a large pot/container. We do allow people to bring their own if they are coming from less that 50 miles away. Some exceptions do apply. 4. It has been very enjoyable meeting the many campers. Everyone has been very well prepared and it has been a pleasure seeing them have fun. We especially have enjoyed the families with young children and people with their dog(s). All have been very well behaved and very enthusiastic. 5 Dogs are welcome, but please let us know if your dog does not get along well with other dogs, so we can let others know. We have a young golden retriever that is very friendly and does very well with other dogs, kids and all people. If your dog doesn't get along with others (dogs or people) please let us know in advance, so we can warn others and please, for safety, keep them on a leash. Your hosts, Dan and Anne

Rich history in this property. The land was purchased from the railroad in 1865 through 1869. Also purchased land from neighboring farms. It was establishes as a farm under the Roberts name in 1872. Our family has seen six generations born and raised on this land in the past 150 years. American Indian tribes use the land for their burial ground ceremonies. Elders from a Wisconsin tribe came to the farm through the 1960s to trek the land and perform a ceremony to honor their ancestors. Many arrow heads were found in the fields of the land. The American Indians told stories of how the little spring fed creek running through our land was a small river flowing towards the Apple River which flows into the Mississippi River. The Apple river runs northwest of the farm. In 2001, the land hosted a small budget film crew for the scenes and setting of the 2002 film “Stray dogs” with Genevieve Turner. Learn more about this land: The property is 125 acres, triangular in shape and bound by low-traffic township roads on two sides and by farmland at the back of the property. We have valleys with three ridges, total elevation is about 300 feet from low point to high point. We have two springs on the property that are the source for a small unnamed creek that feeds into Trout Creek and then the Kickapoo River.  The property has walking paths in the grassy pasture areas in the valley (partially mowed), unmowed trails up and down the hillsides and on the ridges, and a high bluff overlook. We are between the towns of Soldiers Grove and Readstown, 2 miles from the Kickapoo River and US Highway 61 on paved roads.  There are public restrooms with showers a 5 minute drive from site in Soldiers Grove, where there is also an RV dump station. We loved camping on Dan's land! The cabin and outhouse were very clean. All 5 of us and our dog were able to sleep comfortably. The screened back porch of the cabin perfectly kept the bugs out so we were able to relax while feeling outside and observe the nature. Our favorite part was discovering all of the landmarks on his 96 acres of nature beauty! It was an excellent experience and we made memories that will last a life time.

Rufus's land was quiet and comfortable. Easy access to water and an outhouse on site. It's quiet and beautiful. There is a picnic table and a fire ring with wood available. The tree line offered shade all day. The eggs were amazing! I look forward to staying there again!

We loved our two night stay at Western Woods! Our tent site 211 had decent shade and easy walk to very clean showers/restrooms/nice pool/laundry/playground. Staff was kind and the 4th of July parade was really sweet. Our 4yo had a blast. The store is well stocked with basic needs and fun items as well. They really took care of us when we missed our ferry and were delayed to arrive by a day. Friendly community with a mix of long term (seasonal residents) and short term campers. Great for families. Short drive to all the intense and bizarre and fun attractions in Wisconsin Dell ;)

Creekside Camp is a beautiful, quiet spot to camp with some nice amenities. We enjoyed using their trail map to hike the red mowed trails- about a 40 minute round trip walk. The gurgling creek, bird song from such a variety of birds and fireflies made our campfire magical. Andy and Marla were communicative, kind and respectful of our privacy. The camp toilet was clean and appreciated.

We (2 adults, 2 dogs) had a great stay. Despite it being a working farm, there was minimal noise and at night it was very peaceful. Elliot was a great host, and we had some nice chats, despite him being busy. Ruby the dog was a friendly visitor, and she interacted well with our dogs. We took some cherry preserves home with us. Our stay here was everything we were hoping for and more—a much-needed retreat to slow down, breathe deeply, and soak up the quiet beauty of nature. From the moment we arrived, we felt the weight of the city lift off our shoulders. The cabin has a wonderful sense of seclusion and comfort, like a hidden little refuge tucked away from the world. Mornings were our favorite, waking to a crisp chill in the air, stepping out onto the back porch with a cup of coffee, and watching the soft fog drift across the landscape. When the rain came, the sound of it tapping gently on the tin roof made us feel so calm and content. The land itself is beautiful and inviting, and our dogs were in absolute heaven running free and exploring every trail and hidden corner. It was pure joy watching them have such a good time. Dan was an incredible host—warm, approachable, and genuinely thoughtful. He checked in to make sure we had everything we needed but always gave us plenty of space to just be. He struck the perfect balance of presence and privacy, and he seems like the kind of person you could easily spend an evening swapping stories with. If you’re looking for a place to unplug, reconnect with nature, and find a little stillness, this is it. We left feeling rested, recharged, and grateful for the experience.

Peaceful location yet close enough to town if you forgot something. Not that you would actually have to go get it because the host's are amazing and provide everything, you really just need to bring yourself, clothes and food. We loved the outdoor space especially traveling with dogs. Host was great, checked in about half way through our stay to see if we needed anything. I also really appreciated that they checked in with us again before the possibility of severe weather, it was very comforting. We will definitely be coming back.

We had a great time tent camping at Highland Meadows! The weather was a bit uncomfortable (95°!) but there was plenty of shade in the afternoon and a lovely breeze, so it wasn’t too unbearable. The bathrooms were clean and not too far from the site. The cows wandered over to the field near the sight in the evening and hung around in the shade with us for quite awhile. Would definitely stay here again!

My glamping stay was very nice. The site and tent were lovely, nicely set up, clean and very quiet. A Weber grill and propane cooker were provided along with a plastic storage bin with cooking utensils in it. There is a fire pit to enjoy the evening with, but you might want to bring some fire wood if you like to have a fire for a while because there wasn't much wood provided for the one night I stayed. If someone has any issues with going up or down steps be aware that the steps going up to the deck the tent is set up on are steep and narrow and there is no railing around them so it might be a bit of a challenge.

I enjoyed my 2 nights at W.H.Y. It was quiet (except for barking dogs across the street), peaceful, and relaxing. Site was clean, pottery and trash close by and clean. Afton was friendly and professional. Offered me water and asked if I needed anything when she went into town. Was a lovely spot to relax in for a few days.

This was an amazing site for a get away weekend. The views were stunning and you could tell the site owner went above and beyond thinking of thoughtful ways to make guests feel welcome. The dogs were able to run off leash and they were absolutely in heaven. The pictures don’t do it justice. I would definitely stay here again.

This was our first time glamping in the trailer after previously camping in tents on the property, and it completely exceeded our expectations. The trailer was cozy, clean, and well-stocked with everything we needed - from kitchen essentials to bedding - which made our stay super relaxing and stress-free. The setting is just as beautiful as I remember: peaceful, private, and surrounded by nature. It's the perfect blend of outdoorsy charm and comfort. Easy drive to Galena for shopping and exploring. Hours of fun at the campground for the kids. Fun pond to swim in. You can really feel the love and care the hosts put into this place. We'll definitely be back!

We bought the farmette with much work outside and home interior remodel to complete. We slowly turned the property into our family oasis. We neighbor a pasture with cows. There are free range chickens running around during the day. Geese greet us every evening and morning at the pond...as do the many bullfrogs. Occasionally you'll hear the coyotes, but they keep their distance. The stars shine peacefully and the sunsets are picturesque (most afternoons). The pond is a great place to swim and fish. The hillside is a nice walk for exercise or take the easier route and sit under the great oak tree in the other pasture. Campsites are off the road, behind our main home. You won't find a sign...we keep it simple. We allow pets at the sites for a $5 per pet/per night. If you would like to bring a pet, please add the Pet Fee which is listed on the Extra during the booking process. We have firewood available for sale, $5.55/bundle. This is located in the Extra section during the booking process. Lastly, there is free range chicken eggs available for purchase, $3.50/dozen. Governor Dodge Campground
A nice quiet campground with clean facilities. We stayed at site 16, which is wheelchair accessible. The site has an asphalt path to an accessible bathroom with a shower that we were given a key to. The asphalt pad in the site was in good shape, but our BAL leveler needed to be almost fully extended. The path to the bathroom needs to be repaved. The site was more than large enough to accommodate our Jayco 1007 pop-up and the fire ring was a safe distance away. There was also plenty of foliage to make our site feel fairly private. The park has an asphalt path to Stephens Falls and an overlook for people who can't climb down the stone steps to the base of the waterfall.

Great campsites in a huge park! Many trails, lakes, forest and savannas to occupy you. Many electric hookups. Wisconsin requires a State Permit in addition to daily fees.

For us, this was a great place during the dsy, and tgen every night was a big thunderstorm. Try it and see if you have thus experience. Beautiful area!

The Lost Canyon Trail is a must see. Stephens' Falls and the spring houses are great photo opportunities. The backpacking sites available in the park are secluded and very private, just remember to bring lots of insect repellent/mosquito nets.

We grew up going here every summer. Sites are more private than they used to be, although weekends in the summer are packed! Must book a year out to ensure an electric site. Stevens Falls is a beautiful hike, even with a 2&4 year old in tow! Multiple beaches, some very full of goose poop, but so many great trails to hike!

My favorite time to visit is in Mid-May when the leaves are G R E E N and the bugs are minimal. Plus the crowds are typically smaller at this extremely busy park.
