The cabin is an off-grid, 12'X20' insulated structure, with a 7'X8' loft and a 12'X6' screened covered porch/deck. That overlooks a small stream and a cattail marsh. It is in the center of our 90 acres and is very private but near to some rural houses, only our house is (barely) visible in winter and you might see some lights of one other neighbor when the leaves are off the trees. We are 1 and a half miles from the village of Belleville and 5 miles from New Glarus. The Badger State Trail runs across the western edge of our property. It connects with the Sugar River State Trail 8 miles away. Near by New Glarus has many shops, restaurants, Baily's Run winery and the famous New Glarus Brewery (tours daily). Everything can be easily reached by bike or, in season, snowmobile. The marsh is a haven for all sorts of birds and wildlife. Spring brings an abundance of winged migrators and returning residents. There are: sand hill cranes, red wing blackbirds, a number of ducks; buffleheads, mergansers, woodducks, blue winged teal and shovelers just to name a few. The American woodcock can be heard overhead most spring mornings and evenings. The spring peepers (small frogs) are a symphony on their own and they continue into early summer. The woods has many spring flowers and the fall colors are wonderful. In summer there are many song birds like: bluebirds, finches, orioles, humming birds, cedar wax wings, robins, cardinals and herons. Sitting on the screened in deck one can hear a kaleidoscope of bird songs and activity. And an abundance of fireflies in later May through late July and then some. The cabin is off-grid, what that means is: there is NO RUNNING WATER in the cabin and only a chemical toilet (port-a-potty). A limited amount of water is supplied for drinking and washing. There is a sink with a drain in the cabin but no bathroom or refrigerator so bring a cooler. Very limited electricity. There is basic LED lighting and you will be able to charge your phones/devices. The power is supplied from batteries/inverter charged by solar panels on the roof. There are LED lights and a coffee maker. There is NO air conditioning but excellent ventilation and a small, cozy wood stove for heat. If you're uncomfortable or unfamiliar with a wood stove, it may not be wise to stay here in the winter heating season, but we can show most people how to use the stove safely. This is still considered "camping" so be prepared to bring camping gear: your own pillows, sleeping bag, food, drinks, cups, plates, cooking utensils etc. There are carryout options a short drive away. The only thing you won't need is a tent, the cabin is very cozy, warm on the cold days and cool on the warm ones and there is a picnic table, lawn chairs and a gas grill with a side burner. There are a few spots around the cabin for tents if you have additional friends staying. There is an additional charge for additional guests (over 2) but please be advised: any loud "parties" or disturbances and you will be asked to leave. This is a place to enjoy nature and quiet time. To get away from it all. No extra charge for children 12 or under. Insects are a part of the woods environment, if you're afraid of bugs this may not be the right fit for you. We rarely have any real issues, so we're reluctant to use toxic chemicals to kill most (normal) bugs. Normal bug repellent is about all that is necessary. Why we have this cabin; It's a way to share this special place that, judging from the artifacts found here has been a camping area for thousands of years. We want to let others enjoy the seasons; the return of the migrating birds, the spring peepers in the marsh, the fall colors, the silence of a winter day in the woods and the warmth of a wood stove. (many people have found the stove to be their favorite feature) The cabin gives you a front row seat in the middle of, comparatively, pristine nature. Campers will have access to our fine trails for hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and biking. (we would allow a snowmobile from the State trail to the cabin). All campers take note: 1. Please do your best to arrive/check in before dark! The cabin is dark; no yard lights, no streetlights, and if it isn’t a moonlit night, it IS very dark. Some of you are not used to real darkness. We provide some flashlights and headlamps (if you forgot yours) and there are LED lights in the cabin we keep charged for you. Camping headlamps are great for cooking, using the port-a-potty and finding your way around, etc. Bring yours or you can borrow ours, just ask. 2. Take safety precautions with the wood stove and learn how to use it correctly. The only source of heat in the cabin is a small, very nice wood stove. Those without any experience with using wood for heat are advised not to stay at the cabin during the cold season. Those that are eager to learn--we can help you, but safety is very important and you must at least have some basic skills to handle wood heat: using a propane torch, using kindling, splitting wood, operating the stove airflow. 3. Campfires: Campfire wood can be purchased for a reasonable price @$10 for a tote, or @$20 for a large pot/container. We do allow people to bring their own if they are coming from less that 50 miles away. Some exceptions do apply. 4. It has been very enjoyable meeting the many campers. Everyone has been very well prepared and it has been a pleasure seeing them have fun. We especially have enjoyed the families with young children and people with their dog(s). All have been very well behaved and very enthusiastic. 5 Dogs are welcome, but please let us know if your dog does not get along well with other dogs, so we can let others know. We have a young golden retriever that is very friendly and does very well with other dogs, kids and all people. If your dog doesn't get along with others (dogs or people) please let us know in advance, so we can warn others and please, for safety, keep them on a leash. Your hosts, Dan and Anne

This was such a great place to stay!! We got a lot of snow overnight, but the cabin stayed super warm. Dan even let us borrow some snowshoes in the morning so we could do a hike! It was a great quiet getaway and we really enjoyed our time.

Dans cabin at beaver point is an absolute gem. It's quiet, surrounded by thick woods and a creek right next to the deck. My favorite tiny cabin I've ever stayed at without a doubt. Dan is extremely polite and helpful as well, couldn't ask for a better place to unplug.

A Dream Off-grid Getaway

Staying on Dan's 90 acres of land is beyond a dream getaway to unwind. The hiking trails, the golf cart....the cabin....It's completely built from Oak so it's strong, sturdy and gorgeous. I thought I would be cold being it was December, but it's so cozy! I had to even a crack a window. There are hidden pottery treasures all over the hiking map which makes wandering around so much more fun. Dan and Anne are beyond lovely people! Dan has a wealth of knowledge about the property, landscaping, construction and art. He'll let you be or you can join in on a walk if they offer. I was traveling solo so he checked on me multiple times. He's like a missing family member or long lost pal. Chatting with him AND Anne is so nice... and if they aren't already great enough, I got to hang with their puppy, Marble! *swoon*. I'll be back all the time. Great for a solo traveler or with friends. Be respectful though, as it's not a party place or open to loud get togethers. A usual campsite is better if thats what you are looking for. If you need wifi, make sure you set up a hotspot before going or bring your laptop to do so.

Memorable experience

My husband, our dog, and I very much enjoyed our weekend in Dan and Anne's beautiful property. Spending time in the cabin was just the right balance between going off-grid without compromising comfort. The space was clean, cozy, and the wood stove helped in keeping ourselves warm the entire time. A perfect little winter getaway. It certainly felt isolated despite being a short walking distance to the nearest town, so it's still convenient to run for supplies or get some food to go. Luckily, Dan went far and beyond to make sure that we had everything we need. This included firewood, potable drinking water, fully charged LED lanterns, plus a golf cart to transport our things from the parking lot to the site. Our brief encounters with him, Anne, and their puppy, Marble, was such a delight, and we're already looking forward to going back.

Staying at Dan’s cabin is always a wonderful getaway. The cabin is beautiful, spacious and warm. The hikes around the cabin and in town are always a fun stroll. It’s such a relaxing space. Absolutely fantastic place. I almost don't want to leave a good review because I don't want to have to wait months on end to get back here. Dan is such a wonderful host and his property is just amazing. Prime placement of the cabin. The place is quiet and serene I didn't get a chance to walk the trails that Dan has maintained for years but I intend to on one of my many returns! In regards to the upkeep of the cabin, the shelter was spotless! The little off-the-grid shelter offers all of the amenities of glamping while maintaining the simplicity and challenges of a primitive homestead. If you are a hiker, CC skier, or snowshoeing stay here. It is located in close proximity to many trail systems. Last but certainly not least Dan was a wonderful and gracious host. He greeted me upon arrival and made sure that I understood the cabin's amenities. He shared his knowledge of the property, surrounding trail systems, and the history of the area freely after which he left me to settle in. I ran into him again with this dog on Sunday as I was getting ready to check out at which time he assured me that I did not have to rush out of there and that I could take some time to explore the trail system a little more. If I had to summarize my experience in one word, "restorative" I am already looking to book my next visit.

Adorable Cozy Cabin!

Such a beautiful property and the cabin was obviously crafted with love! We had the perfect fall weekend to enjoy this wonderful setting in comfort and surrounded by natural beauty. Dan, the host, was very accommodating, friendly, and informative. Directed us to a few points of interest in the area and had kindly made sure we had everything we needed for a wonderful weekend!

Fantastic cabin, property and host!

Fantastic little cabin and beautiful land surrounding it. My brother and I came out here for a short weekend trip to do a little fishing and get away from the city for a little while. Dan's place was the perfect getaway. He was more than accommodating, letting us use his golf cart, stocking plenty of wood for the stove inside and the firepit outside, and providing us fresh water. The cabin even had some electricity for us! The cabin itself was very comfortable and gorgeous. And we can't say enough about how beautiful his surrounding land is. We were lucky enough to be there when the leaves were starting to change. We even caught a bunch of fish in his little pond including some very nice sized bass! I will definitely be back here to enjoy Dan's gem. Thank you!

Dan = kindest, truest spirit. Place = inspiring, relaxing, discovering, awakening, walkabiliting (new word) destination. There's nothing I can add to previous raving reviews... For me, it was all about Dan's map... like a treasure hunt for all ages... I won't post the map, or all hundreds of our pictures... I'll just add 1 of our dogs having the time of their lives, and 2 spots not on the map that can be uncovered... I call them "lost luck" and "tree of tomorrow." Honestly, I can't even begin to describe what a beautiful weekend we had. Thank you so much.

My family of four had a great time staying on Dan's property. We booked last minute due to a change in plans, and Dan was very prompt and accomodating. The cabin was perfect for our family of four + dog. We hiked the property, fished/swam/boated in the pond and enjoyed the scenery. Highly recommend.

Unique & relaxing Driftless getaway

Beautiful, relaxing stay in the Driftless near New Glarus. The cabin is so well designed, particularly with the screened it porch overlooking the creek, and the temperature was perfect in July. Dan was very helpful and generous and made us feel welcome - clearly he's someone who thoughtfully crafted this cabin and loves to share it with others. Definitely hope to come back!

Peaceful getway

I highly recommend Beaver Point cabin. Everything about the experience was top notch and Dan was a very gracious host. We enjoyed watching the thunderstorms on the screened in porch and making trips to the pond for our pup to go for a swim. The cabin was well made and very clean. Also using of the golf cart to get around the property was very convenient. We hope to stay again in the future!

Great getaway in the woods!

Great location to come and get away from it all. Towards the end of June it was warm during the day and cool at night. There was a great screened in porch with a nice view which was perfect for sitting and thinking about life. The property is right next to a hiking trail so you can get some exercise in. Overall it’s a great mix of roughing it and comfort. And most importantly Dan is very friendly and hospitable. Would definitely recommend!

We had a great time . There is trails to walk or ride your bike. The badger state trail runs through the property. Good wood for cooking on a tripod. It has a pond with fish. Dan said the fish are biting but I did not bring poles. The porch on the back is great for relaxing and watching birds. Dan was a good host and made sure we had water and wood. The cabin was comfortable. Love the golf cart for carrying stuff to cabin from vehicle.

Such an amazing little place. My tween, teen and I loved it. The first day a wild Turkey greeted us outside, we came across a large snapping turtle and several frogs. Dan was super helpful, dropping off drinking water and providing last minute cold packs when our cooler was getting too warm. We can’t wait to return!

EXCELLENT!!!! Dan provides an unforgettable experience from beginning to end. I couldn't have asked for a better host. He went above and beyond, let me explain what I mean by this. I booked this getaway for my mother and myself as a birthday/Mother's Day gift. Saturday morning Dan arrives with a brown paper bag with baked goods in one hand, and a cup carrier with coffees in the other. He explains this elaborate secret agreement he had with my friend Denise from back home, to not only pick up the baked goods from a local bakery called Lingonberry Llama, but to also deliver them directly to our cabin. Overall from the beautiful scenery to the hospitality, Beaver Point Cabin will always have a dear place in my heart. I will definitely be returning soon!

We couldn’t be happier with our stay! The cabin was amazing. Very clean. Well stocked and well throughout with great instructions and a hand drawn map of the propert and trails! The screened in porch was a great way to relax while watching out over the marsh at the sandhill cranes and red winged blackbirds. Lots of safe and well marked trails to explore. We saw 22 different kinds of birds listed below. The highlight was a pair Barred owls who regularly were hooting at each other throughout the evenings! Dan and Ann were very gracious and friendly hosts.
