- Several kayaks with adult and child lifejackets free to use
- Cement deck near the lake with cafe lights

The last 5 miles of the drive are on a "Red Dirt Road" and it can be bumpy or even slippery if it's rained recently. I've never heard of any issues in any vehicles but it's a county road. You will leave with red dirt on your vehicle but that's part of the appeal, the secluded getaway :)
Once you start down the driveway you'll see the lake through the trees, making the rough 5-mile ride worth it.

Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare.
The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable.
We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm.
We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025.
If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

This place was an absolute dream location not far from Houston. If you need a weekend away to disconnect from city life this is an absolute gem! We had a wonderful stay at Stewart’s Cove in Cabin 3! Gene was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the cabin itself was clean and comfortable with great water pressure and a beautiful view. We loved being able to catch fish right from the pier and truly enjoyed every moment. We’re already planning to return — this time bringing our whole family!

It was a quiet and pleasant stay. We stayed in the 2 person bunkhouse which was very cozy. The farm had some very friendly horses, goats and donkeys that we could feed treats to.
The kitchen in the farmhouse was also well stocked with utensils, coffee, and seasonings.
The pool was very refreshing in the hot sun.
The host was also extremely helpful in calling us and providing all details and responding to our texts during the stay.

I absolutely LOVED this place! It was so peaceful and the exact unwind place I was looking for. Cabin was clean, and cozy with great views It was my dog’s first time at the lake and he had a blast going in and out of the water. My favorite part was laying on the dock at night, listening to the crickets, frogs, and looking at the stars. 100% will be going back.

We rented cabins 1 and 2 for a weekend family trip. We had an amazing time! I cannot say enough about how awesome this site is. They have so much to do; basketball, sand box, petal boats, kayaks, life jackets and a WATERSLIDE. The waterslide was a huge hit for both the kids and adults! The Pavilion is covered and a great place for the kids to play. We spent most of our time in the area near the water slide and the dock; there are 2 picnic tables, a grill and an outdoor sink here. We brought flashlights and lanterns but didn't need them! The cabins have plenty of outside lighting, the pavilion and area with the grill also have lights! Both cabins 1 and 2 have a loft area with a little door that closes at the bottom of the stairs. Cabin 2 has a lock on the door, this was helpful since we had a toddler traveling with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and you will too!

We spent a lovely week at this Hipcamp spot and had an absolutely fantastic time. From the moment we arrived, everything was just right—the lakeside was ready for swimming, complete with a fun water slide, and the air conditioning in our cabin was wonderfully cool.
Our host was incredibly hospitable and made sure we felt right at home. We spent our days canoeing, kayaking, and exploring the local town’s charming antique shops, a new ice cream parlor, and a cozy bookstore. We also enjoyed a delightful little diner one evening.
One highlight was taking a boat over to a local restaurant with dockside access, which was a really unique experience. We loved it so much that we decided to stay an extra day to soak up more of the lakeside relaxation.
Overall, it was an easy drive from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and perfect for a family getaway

We stayed for 3 nights and had an amazing time! The property was perfect for a family trip — clean, beautiful, and full of activities for everyone.
They had a miniature putt-putt course, a bounce area, playground, swimming pool, fishing pier and more! A few of us even enjoyed kayaking together on the water. (Kayaks cost extra to rent). It felt peaceful yet fun, with plenty of activities to keep everyone happy. We would definitely come back and highly recommend it to other families looking for a relaxing, activity-filled getaway!

My family really enjoyed The Retreat. We had 8 people in our group and stayed in one of the cabins. It was a tight squeeze but we made it work. We really liked the pool and other amenities that were provided. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We bothered them a lot with towel, toilet paper, and trash bag requests. There was wifi in the clubhouse and in the cabins. You can rent golf carts to drive around in and cabanas around the pool. My only complaint is that the only shade around the pool was the cabana, and the Texas sun is not forgiving. All together, it was a great stay and we would definitely return.
