I enjoyed my time here - the woods were pretty, there's lots of hiking right by the campsite, and warm showers are a nice touch. It feels pretty isolated, which I like - I didn't see the hosts the whole time I was there, and there were no other campers there when I was. There's a lot of wide open space and a lot of hiking trails - it's the woods! Felt like there were lots of opportunities for solitude. There's a structure right by the campsite that's clearly still being worked on, but luckily, no work was being done on it while I was there, so it wasn't a disturbance. The lake/pond was definitely dried up - would have been nice to swim considering how hot it was, but it's not far to plenty of swimming holes. The main criticism I'd give is the price point—$80 a night seems expensive for access to a place to set up a tent. I've seen plenty of "glamping" options on Hipcamp that provide a tiny house or a yurt for around that price. I think about half that price would be a much more reasonable offering.

We had a wonderful time staying at Michel's camp. Centrally located between Murphys and the Calaveras big trees without the crowds of the full campgrounds. An evening walk through the artwork was fascinating. We loved the outside shower! Straight to our favorites list. Thank you Michel!

This is a lovely campsite with thoughtfully themed campsites. Michel is a wonderful host and checked in to make sure we were getting settled in our spot. The campsites are large, with plenty of space between them to feel private. The bathrooms were well maintained. Bonus points for the live music on Saturday night. This was our second time camping here and we look forward to many more visits.

The directions were very helpful and the camp location around the meadow is truly magical and beautiful. We slept so well, we had lovely camp neighbors and Adam was helpful as a host. Also the cutest shower and outhouse toilets!

we had a great stay for our evening under the trees. A beautiful, serene site. Kelley, the host is wonderful. We didn’t have enough time to use the sauna, but I would definitely recommend booking that if you’re into that type of thing.

Really great spot to camp. We went with a group of 6 and had plenty of space. Michel was super kind and a great host. He gave a great recommendation for a swimming hole about a 15 min drive. The winery onsite was great. The flush toilets and potable water were a little further from the campsites than I expected but the port-o-potties next to the sites were very clean and there was handwashing water next to every one. Would definitely return!

2 nights at Bright Bear Camp in Tahoe NF

Outstanding host and campsite. Super easy to find a few miles off 80. Great description of Kelley’s land and direction. We stayed at site3 which is next to the “house”. Big enough for our Sprinter van and bike rack (about 23 feet). Kelley is the perfect blend of helpful and non intrusive. There are 2 ports potties- one inside a building with a sink and one outside in a potty tent( nicer then it sounds lol!) the camp is all solar Powered. We plugged into the system for about an hour (just ask 1st) to run our van battery back to 100 percent. There was water as well but we didn’t need it . Outdoor shower. Outdoor sink for washing dishes. She brought us a thermocell for mosquitos which was really helpful! Pay the $60 to use the sauna. What a treat! It’s heated with firewood and has a cold plunge bucket outside. Big enough for 2-3. She even brought us towels for sauna. We hiked along the bear river which is beautiful and there was an official hiking trail where the road connects with Hwy 20. So peaceful and lovely ! Adorable eve lights that illuminate paths around camp. There are some swinging Adirondack chairs too. We would absolutely stay here again. It took us about 30 minutes to Truckee and one hour to Tahoe city /sunnyside area. Dog was very welcomed and loved it too. Things to note: it is 2 miles down a dirt road . Bring what you need or rent from Kelley. There were some very cute tent/car camping spaces on site as well. Highly recommend this gem

Perfect location as it was just minutes from Murphys and Angels Camp and a short drive to White Pine Lake. The campsite itself was very spacious and felt intimate and private despite being so close to town. Would absolutely stay here again.

We loved staying here! The campsite had a great view! It was remote and quiet, even with other guests nearby. The bathroom is so nice and the hot tub was a special touch, especially after paddle boarding. It would be tight for 8 people, but worked for 2 tents. We can’t wait to return!

Sugarpine Slopes at Grouse Ridge

It is on this property that I saw my first grouse. Also look for warblers-notably Audubon's and the Hermit Warblers- along with the White-headed Woodpecker. You will likely hear a Pileated Woodpecker and if you are lucky you will see one Learn more about this land: Welcome to Sugarpine Slopes. The Sugarpine has the longest cones in the world and many birds and mammals like the pine nuts and use the tree for habitat. This is a spring through fall place only. There is no winter access. The property is at 5800 feet. Depending on the weather the road may close from Nov 15th to May 15th. The road on the property is a dirt road. All wheel drive or 4WD vehicles recommended although the lower section could be accessed by most vehicles. Shorter trailers allowed at Site A. Site 3 can also accommodate a small teardrop-style trailer The property is totally undeveloped at this time. It is a wildlife corridor for deer and bear (keep all food contained), the mountain quail and the blue grouse. Keep your eyes open for the Hermit Warbler, Audubon's Warbler, and our gorgeous visitor from the tropics the Western Tanager. You are likely to hear the Pileated Woodpecker and if you are lucky you will see it and its red crest in an undulating flight through the trees. The property has a lovely west facing slope which climbs gradually at first then more steeply to the top of the property. We have drive-in camping on the lower section. There is one walk-in site at the top of the property. There is wonderful hiking nearby with several trailheads in the area within approximately 4 miles. Camp Watanda at Lake Vera

FYI: We are a very small lake and experience seasonal lows towards the end of the summer. I cannot predict what the lake condition will be in August. Camp Watanda is a retired resident camp that we have converted to a vacation rental. We have 10 acres of wooded property, with the 4 camping kiosks close to the waterfront and 1 RV site on the waterfront. The camping kiosk all have 8-10 mattresses, grilling table, picnic table, cooler, smoke alarms, rake, broom and fire extinguishers. We are pet friendly with 1 dog per kiosk. Tents can be pitched on the elevated decks. Our waterfront has a large fire ring, 2-covered pergolas, canoes, kayaks, life jackets and charcoal grill. Lots of fish in the lake, since this is a private lake, no license is required. There is also a bathhouse (very primitive and in serious need of remodel) close by with 3 showers, 3 toilets and 3 sinks. Up by the lodge is a cell phone charging station and Wi-Fi, while we do have Wi-Fi, it is not guaranteed, we are in the mountains with inconsistent connection. Lodge is not available to campers as this is rented separately. No dispersed camping. RV CAMPING: Because of the steep driveway and blind curve, we limit the vehicle length to 25 overall length. Our driveway is more suitable for RV's and Camper Vans and not Travel Trailers being towed. If you rent a kiosk, all campers must be on the same kiosk unless you rent a second kiosk. If you have a camping van and plan on using the van and the kiosk, then that is a second site. You cannot tailgate on a reservation just because the party only has 2 people on the kiosk, and you have 2 in the Van to make 4 people. These are tents sites on a Kiosk, there is parking for cars or trucks at the kiosk, not suitable for RV or Travel Trailers. Those vehicles will have to park at the waterfront parking lot. There are no refunds for cancellations within 72 hours of arrival. Camp Watanda is private property, campers assume all liability for being on site. There is no lifeguard present. This is a natural habitat for woodland animals, there is an associated risk for camping in their home. Slips, trips and falls can occur on trails, camping structures and waterfront.

Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, It is a 10 minute drive to the quaint, historical gold rush town of Nevada City, and about 20-30 minutes by bicycle along the the Tribute Trail into town, or walk to the bridge that crosses the Deer Creek to a loop trail with lovely views and wooded scenery, about 1.5 hours there and back to the campground. The gorgeous South Fork of the Yuba River is a 15 minute drive away. Great hiking, biking and swimming opportunities abound in the surrounding Sierra Nevada Foothills. Nevada City has great restaurants, bars, music and theater, as well as shopping and art galleries. We offer 4 tent platforms, as well as 4 RV parking sites. There are no hookups at this point, but there is a bathhouse with potable water, flush toilets and shower with warm water.

The DINER "Smoke on the Water" is open only Saturday- Sunday. Traveling West on 50 from Tahoe: make a right on HWY 49 traveling north. Follow the above instructions. Welcome to Finnon Lake Recreation Area! Our lovely lake to discover. The night skies above Finnon Lake will reveal stars unseen in most parts of California. Enjoy searching for bullfrogs, and watch the flock of Canadian Geese fly in right at sunset as the horizon blends into the watercolor sky. This private lake supports the fire protection efforts of the Mosquito Fire Protection District and the firefighters of this community. Community volunteers manage the lake for the residents and the Fire Station. The primary funding source for the Finnon Lake Restoration is the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, which was signed into law in 2004 with a mission to support “efforts that improve the environmental, economic and social well-being of the Sierra Nevada Region, its communities and the residents of California,” according to its Website. Finnon Lake is also home to a popular 18-hole disc golf course and Mosquito’s only restaurant, Smoke on the Water Diner, which is open on weekends only 530-622-1060. There is NOTHING like being in the wilderness of this area for a good re-centering of the soul! We feel certain you will not be disappointed with our beautiful river canyon. Our property is situated right on the middle fork cosumnes river. We have 2 sleeping cabins and several tent sites (can be rented separately). The cabins offer a rustic/minimalist type vibe - bring your own bedding/pillows to sleep on the comfy futon. A table and chairs are provided for the cabins. Tent sites each have a wood table (bring your camp chairs) and a fire pit when the season is open for burning. The swimming is awesome and the stars at night will put you into a state of awe! In the area there are many family owned wineries in the area, most of them offering free tasting! It’s a short drive to Tahoe and the Marshall gold discovery site as well as the historic hangtown Placerville. We are happy to make suggestions for local hiking areas, like the Devil's Slide "Gorge" only a 15 minute drive but like a trip to mini Yosemite. The Caldor Fire was VERY close to our property and a back burn was initiated nearby the cabins (litererally 200' away!). It is still as beautiful as ever but please know there are lots of slash piles. Falling trees and burned up stump holes are also a risk and it is presumed campers will be cautious and use at their own risk. We ask campers to use our property only for land use and river access, NO up or down river access is permitted AT ALL. Please don't hesitate to shoot us a message if you have any questions!

Camp Nauvoo was originally bought by the LDS church in the 1960's for a girl's camp. The camp was owned by the Boy Scouts from 2011-2015. The Rose family bought the property in 2016 with the intent to continue the tradition of tent camping as well as creating opportunities for exclusive events i.e., group/family reunions, weddings and corporate events. We are a small privately owned small campground (20 sites only) located on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, canvas tents on platforms, teepees and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. We are tent camping only with only one site that allows a small travel trailer or van. (#14) . We are dog friendly and allow dogs in all but 5 glamping sites. We do enforce camp rules especially our quiet time between 10 PM and 7 AM (please review). We’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe. We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together with multiple families. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day. We have a lodge that is stocked with games and a ping pong table. The lodge has a microwave, Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups).We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We have electricity at the at the lodge for small appliances and charging phones. We have a compressor on site to blow up your air mattresses or float toys. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. We offer nice flushing toilets and hot showers! We have many extra amenities including a compressor to use for your air mattresses, For outdoor activities we have basketball, volleyball, pickleball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing set . We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores (bring the fixings). The creek starts out in spring looking like a rushing river featuring many fishing and swimming holes. As the summer progresses the water level falls but is still great for water play and fishing. We have propane BBQs (we provide the propane for BBQs) located throughout the property. We also have a propane grill and charcoal BBQ located in the common area for all to use. There is a dutch oven pit also in the fire bowl area. We do not allow wood fires at the individual sites but each site has a propane firepit for ambiance (not cooking) that requires you to purchase a 20 lb. propane cannister on site (add in extras) or pay cash on site. No internet service. There is limited internet only available for purchases at the setore. We require a 3 night minimum for the major holidays - Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. We do exclusive events so you may need to explore multiple weekends to find the right reservation. We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historical towns with great eating establishments. Tahoe is less than an hour away and there a many hiking trails within 20-30 minutes. We have a limited number of items to rent i.e, tents, cots, camp stoves, etc. We rent a battery pack for those that use a cpap. We also have a small store on site for those items you forgot and a good selection of ice cream and ice. We take venmo or cash. CHECKIN IS BETWEEN 4 AND 8. All we ask is for them to be leashed at all times and no poop bags are allowed on the farm. Their poo helps fertilize our trees as nature intended. However, please clean up after your pets in the camping area and please take it with you when you leave. Don’t feel like cooking while your camping? No worries we have restaurants in town that would love to serve you. Lastly, the farm has no trash cans or dumpsters on site. We are a "pack it in pack it out" farm. History of the snowy peaks- the Wilson family started the Snowy Peaks Farm in 1979. When you camp with us the tallest trees you see are planted from the original family. Snowy Peaks opened the gates for choose and cut Christmas trees in 1984. Since then, the property has had 3 owners: the Wilson’s, Armstrong's and now the Jones family who are continuing the tree farm legacy. Over the years we have HAND planted (yes hand planted) well over 30,000 trees to make up for every single tree we sell during the Christmas tree season.
