120 acres of ponderosa pine, granite, creekside hangs, and wide-open sky tucked into the Sierra Nevada foothills, about an hour east of Sacramento. Happy Pines sits in a pretty sweet spot between the American River Canyon and the rolling wine country of El Dorado County, which means there’s a lot more to do here than just camp. On the property, you’ll find creek access with swimming holes worth the drive on their own, private mountain bike trails, long golden sunsets, and a night sky that actually lets you remember what stars look like. Step off property and the options stack up fast. The South Fork of the American River is about 20 minutes away, offering some of California’s best whitewater, with Class III and IV rapids for both first-timers and seasoned river folks. The Gold Hill and Fair Play wine regions are a short drive south, with small-batch wineries pouring bottles you won’t find at the grocery store. World-class mountain biking in Georgetown is 25 minutes away, Auburn State Recreation Area is practically next door, and Tahoe-area trail systems are under two hours away. 4WD required if you're pulling a trailer or driving a cab-over camper. There is very limited cell service on the property, Verizon is the only carrier with service. Come camp, swim, ride, wander, and stay a little weird.

Happy Pines Hideout 1 is a flat, mostly sunny site nestled among the pines with open sky above. The photos for these sites are the same because they are all in the same area. There are no hookup amenities here. These sites are all in a big open flat spot, which means you will see and encounter other guest during your stay. Please note there may be other guests visible nearby. Guests have full access to the property's year-round creek, swimming holes, and walking and mountain bike trails. Creek is about a 15 min walk, 600 foot downhill/climb out along a winding walking path. Guests must be self-contained, pack out all waste, and leave no trace.

Stargazer 1

Sleep under the biggest sky on the property. Stargazer sits on a wide, flat open field with nothing overhead but open air, making it one of the best spots on the ranch for watching the stars come out one by one after sunset. No canopy, no clutter, just you and a sky full of light. During the day, the field opens up in every direction, giving you room to spread out, set up lawn chairs, toss a frisbee, or do absolutely nothing. A 20-minute walk takes you to four separate swimming holes, each one a little different, so you can spend an afternoon hopping between them or settle into a favorite. The land around camp rewards wandering too, with plenty of wildlife, wildflowers, and shaded trails to explore between swims. Nights are the main event. Bring a blanket, lay back, and give your eyes 20 minutes to adjust. The Milky Way earns its name out here.

We had such a wonderful stay at Happy Pines Camp Out! Rachel and Nate were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The property is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and exceptionally well maintained. One of our favorite parts was the creek..it was the perfect place to cool off on a warm day. They even have hammock nearby where you can relax with a good book or enjoy an afternoon nap while listening to the peaceful sounds of the water. The two Great Pyrenees dogs on the property were another highlight. They were gentle, friendly, and gave us a wonderful sense of safety and security while adding so much charm to the experience. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway with amazing hosts and stunning scenery, I can’t recommend Happy Pines enough. We already can’t wait to come back and spend more time here. Five stars all the way!

Our family just visited Happy Pines & I can tell you it definitely lives up to its name. We stayed at the Stargazer 1 site & there was plenty of room for our crew. Beautiful swimming holes, maintained bike trails & dog-friendly. Shout out to Rachel & Nate (& Luna, Dozer, & Sierra) for being such great hosts. We’ll definitely be back!!

Happy Pine’s is a place where you make great memories with your family and have an enjoyable time camping. From the creek to the mountain bike trail Happy Pines is a place where you will have lots of fun and make memories that will never be forgotten. Happy Pines Hideout 1
This is exactly what I hoped for (and more) ! It had the genuine feeling of camping in the wilderness without being in the intimidating backwoods. I mostly hung out in the “lower area” where it’s wilder, lower elevation, and all I heard were birds and waterfalls. I was the only camper during my stay and lucked out with having ample space, privacy and quiet to connect with nature deeply. The Grotto is as GLORIOUS as it is in the photo. In the future I’ll have to check out their more adventurous creeks. As it was my first time camping solo as well as the longest I’ve ever camped, I highly recommend this Hipcamp (esp the Family Beach site) for any females who want to feel safer and more confident with camping. The hosts’ two Pyrenees dogs were so sweet, and very diligent with protecting the land. Rachel and Nate were wonderful hosts ~ friendly, courteous, responsive, helpful, and passionate about the possibilities they can create over time for the outdoors community. I hands down recommend this “pick your adventure” type of place to beginner and seasoned outdoor enthusiasts!!
