The Lost Dutchman Italian Bar Camp is a 160 acres of Priviately Owned Patented Mining land and our priviate campground located in the Stanislaus National Forest and on the South Fork of the Stanislaus River, which runs through the camp.
Camping is available on both side of the river making the Italian Bar camp a destination for campers since we rebuilt the camp from the ground up in the late 1970’s.

Little History:
The property was discovered and first settled around 1849 as a gold rush mining camp. At one time over 3,000 people lived here and mined for gold. When the gold rush came to an end so did Italian Bar. Until over a hundred years later, In 1976 when our founder fell in love with this remote property and purchased the land and we began rebuilding the I-Bar camp from the ground up and opened it to our members. It didn't hurt that somewhere close by Our founder found a 800oz pocket of gold. Even today, Prospecting for gold is encouraged!
If you want to try your hand at “Gettin on some of the shiny” let the Caretakers know! We have a few gold pans we loan out that are just waiting for some color to make you smile.
Of course we have pans for sale.
If you’re an avid outdoors person, carrying a gold pan with you just makes sense.

Bridgeport Reservoir is a lake at the lower end of Bridgeport Valley in Mono County, California. Its earth-filled dam was constructed in 1923 by the Walker River Irrigation District, along the East Walker River. The campground and marina was built I-don't-know-how-long ago, but it sure is nice!
About Us: Welcome to Bridgeport Reservoir Marina and Campground. Join us for the classic camping and fishing experience with unique views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Within the Toiyabe National Forest, Bridgeport Reservoir Marina and Campground is conveniently located near two distinct hot spring areas. A true angler's paradise, the Reservoir has excellent trout fishing from spring through fall and is close by to multiple rivers for incredible fly fishing. A 35 minute drive on highway 120 will take you to the Tioga Pass Gate of Yosemite National Park. This gate is a great start to several different areas inside of the park that you may want to visit beyond that gate. Off-road enthusiasts would not have enough time in one visit to explore all of the 4x4 trails, abandoned mines, and sites in the area as well as the famous trail that brings you right to the Bodie Ghost Town.
Climate and Ecosystem: At 6,400 feet (1,950 meters), this high desert climate has little to moderate tree coverage and gets hot during the days and cool at night. The conditions are much like Joshua Tree National Park or Alabama Hills camping area. During your visit, you will notice many flying insects that resemble mosquitos. These Chironomid are harmless and do not bite. On the contrary, the mosquito presence is very minimal.
Swimming in the lake is possible usually between April to July.

It’s important to us that our guests don’t feel they are renting a tent/RV site or a camper as much as they’re immersing themselves into the outdoor experience. You may just want to sit outside and read for days, enjoy campfires and eat s'mores. For more adventurous, there's a full slate of self-guided recreational activities, such as hiking, kayaking, fishing, ATVing, rock climbing, biking, natural water slides, stand up paddle boards, bird watching, available in the area. We do have modern conveniences such as wifi internet; however, we encourage our guests to “unplug” and immerse in the slow paced life instead.
At Paradise Shores, we believe in protecting people, animals and the planet. We make sure that the majority of products we use at our camp is recycled, composted, or re-used. We prefer to use products that are produced in a sustainable way and avoid those that aren't.
We are continuously reducing the amount of waste we generate and actively promote recycling of aluminum, plastic, glass, and cardboard. We pack our own recycling and haul it to the nearest recycling facility which is an hour away. We co-opt the drive with other activities to reduce waste. We don’t use individually packaged toiletries or one-use products. We use plant and planet friendly detergent.
We're based in a desert. We share our precious water with the entire planet. With only 326 million cubic miles of water on the earth, the decreasing amounts of access to quality fresh water is alarming to us. We monitor how we use water in our day-to-day activities and are constantly working on ways to reduce our consumption of fresh-water resources.
We hope you can help us maintain this greener camping!
We hope Paradise Shores Camp becomes your home as it is ours. It’s located in one of the most spectacular areas in the world. We’re surrounded on three sides by the high Sierra Nevada Mountains. Yosemite National Park, Tuolumne Meadows, Mono Lake, June Lake, Virginia Lakes, and Twin Lakes, as well as the historic gold-mining town of Bodie, CA are all within a short drive from our place.
We're proud to know this area intimately and are excited to share the secret spots with you. The excellent hiking/running trails including the Pacific Crest Trail, thousands of miles of ATV, dirt bike and mountain bike trails are accessible right from our camp or within a short drive from here. The surrounding terrain offers endless activities and unbelievable scenery in remote wilderness settings.
Pet Policy
All our RV & Tent sites are pet friendly and we allow up to two dogs per reservation for a small fee. We can also accommodate up to two four-legged campers in our pet-friendly Baja or Tatra trailers for a small fee, we ask that they stay off the furniture (beds, sofas etc.) and are not left in the rental unattended. We love dogs, but sadly won’t be able to accommodate heavily shedding pets that aren’t house trained. Additionally, our insurance will not allow "aggressive breeds" that include any mix of: Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Doberman, German Sheppard.
Please pick up after your pup and use a leash when at the camp. Thank you in advance for your consideration and help in keeping our camp a mellow and enjoyable place for everyone.

Important notes:
We are off-grid. There is no electricity in the campground with exception of a small solar powered system to operate our entry gate, guest Wi-Fi and intercom. Outlets are not available for guest use.
Our campground is home to wildlife. You can minimize unwanted encounters by properly storing food and garbage.
We have one central bathhouse with 3 flushing toilets. Sites vary in distance from a short walk to a short drive. The bathhouse has 4 shower stalls in the rear of the building. The bathhouse is closed from 10pm to 8am. The bathhouse does not have electricity or interior lighting.
Our Hacienda section ("H" Sites) has vault toilets. Portables are located throughout the campground for your convenience.
There is minimal privacy from other campers due to the placement of the sites and the way our trees and vegetation is trimmed for fire resistance.
All guests and vehicles must be registered upon arrival.

We are conveniently located on Route 4 so campers should expect some noise, however the road quiets down around at night and -- except for the occasional loud vehicle -- it gets pretty serene here during the star gazing hours! The tent camping area is fenced and we have not had any bears on the property, but we do have a few shy farm cats and the occasional racoon. For this reason, we ask all campers to be mindful about storing food and disposing of trash in the provided bins. The ranch is comprised of the camping lawns, camping facilities, several homes on the property (two Air BnB and the owner's home) and the motorcycle workshop. Car and RV campers are welcomed and there is plenty of car/RV parking on the asphalt lot outside the fence at the East Side of the property near the mailboxes at the intersection of Rte 4 and Brice Station Road. Our grassy lawn tent area is inaccessible to vehicles and RVs. Our parking area is adjacent to the highway and may not be what rooftop and van/rv campers are expecting in terms of a peaceful camping experience. If you have tent, it’s recommended to camp out on the lawn. We have tents for rent if you need one.

The Soup is down the driveway a couple hundred yards from where we usually are so you’ll more or less be on your own, depending on if we have work to do down there or if there are other campers. We are happy to chat or leave you be, just let us know what your needs are. If you’re looking for a more isolated spot, see the listings for 1 Pine or 2 Pine.
The 2nd area is “1 Pine” accessed by our second driveway that is 100 yards down the road from the farm. The driveway is kind of rough but definitely manageable with a truck, SUV or sedan if you’re willing to go for it. The drive goes up a couple hundred yards to the hilltop where there is a clearing and, you guessed it, 1 pine tree. From the back of the clearing there is a trail that leads you to 2 Pine, which is a walk that takes just a few minutes. 2 Pine is walk-in only but has great views of the sunset and is totally secluded and private and would be a good spot to either bring some friends for a little sunset party or for someone who wants to seriously unplug. There are plenty of flat spots to pitch a tent.

The marbleized limestone outcropping is a prominent site feature that's culturally, geologically, and historically significant. It was used as a communal grinding rock — Chaw'se — by the Miwok to process acorns into meal for food. This same rock formation was later hydraulically mined for gold in the second half of the 19th century, amidst some of the largest mining operations during the California Gold Rush. Downtown Murphys, our local gold-mining town turned quaint wine country destination, is just 1.5 miles away.

If you are looking for man made and leveled campsites, then this is not your basecamp. This land is a gorgeous 20 acres that means a lot to us.
It's space to find your peace of mind and pitch a tent or hammock, as you would when hiking the backcountry.
Aside from complimentary ice water, potty, shower, soaps, sanitizer, sunscreen, first aid, communal fire pit, wood stove and dishwashing area) this is not "glamping".
If you are a person who appreciates nature and making due with what the land has provided, then we are a great fit.

This is for people that know how to camp in the backcountry -
Without a trash can, who don’t leave cigarette butts, respect the land and would rather not be sectioned off.
Flat areas are all over if you explore, and use your feet to brush aside rocks and twigs, to lay down a tent base, as we do every time we camp in the backcountry.
The geography of these mountains is just that, hills and mountains. The vista at the top of the property is gorgeous and easily camps 5 tents spaced out. The property does offer many other great camping areas, and I’m more than happy to point them out.
Yosemite is 30 minutes away, Don Pedro lake is 30 minutes, Cherry Lake is 30 minutes, Preston falls and Carlon falls are both 30 min away. Downtown Groveland Is 7 minutes away, and other historic towns are not too far.
Close to many swimming holes. Rainbow pools is 15 minutes away. 10 min from the local grocery store and other local shops. Base Camp is just off of highway 120. Sonora has a great farmers market on Sunday and is a beautiful 40 min drive away.

When you come to the ranch it feels like you are hundreds of miles away from civilization, but still close to everything you need. It is incredibly peaceful!
This is a great place for someone who wants to escape city life and enjoy the tranquillity of nature.
Much of the ranch is open wilderness for you to explore, and it's not uncommon to see deer, frogs, turtles, quail, turkeys, or other countless species of birds.

The campsite was easy to back into with plenty of space to maneuver. We came loaded with water, but there is a spigot and power hookup easily accessible. Nice little picnic table made for a beautiful view while eating dinner and having our morning coffee. If your hookups are on the passenger side of you camper, you may want to bring a power extension and an extra length of waterhose if you're using it, it was an exact reach for our standard size power cord.
Very easy drive into Yosemite, 10 minutes from the gate. There's also a beautiful watering hole about 500 feet up the road, day use for $10 for a nice shaded area called "Rainbow Pool". Showers and bathrooms across the road were clean and water was hot for showers. Will definitely stay here again for our next trip into Yosemite, or visiting the cute town of Groveland.

After rerouting our trip due to extreme heat in the southwest, we found a spot at Willow Springs for two nights. Located on the east side of Yosemite, the location is a great launch point to tour the park. We also visited Twin Lakes and were impressed with the natural beauty and lack of crowds. Site 21 is nice, however we switched to spot 27 which has good shade and multiple parking options (we parked on the concrete pad). Friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed meeting other guests at the campfire. Highly recommended!

Nice location if visiting Yosemite or just getting away. Bathroom and shower are great, property is maintained, peaceful and has hiking trails. The doe's and baby fawns was a nice treat. The night fills up the sky with so many stars !
Visit Groveland about 15-20 min for some restaurants or groceries. For coffee visit up Mountain Sage Coffee and while you're at it check out Robb's photography and book.

Squirrel Rock Campground is one of the best, most unique campsites you will ever come across. Excellent quality, commercial grade electric pedestals, and dual water hookups in an immaculately maintained site. Covered table with a tub full of great games. Amazing details and touches throughout the camp area and beyond. Beautiful boulders and Rock outcroppings. You'll be tickled by all the amusing details. A marked trail where you will find deer, quail, and of course Squirrels! There are many attractions nearby. We even caught an amazing show (Don't Touch That Dial), at the Fallon Theater, which is located at the Columbia State Historic Park. The cast was so good, and it was the most fun we've ever er had at a theater show. Catch it if you can! We love SRC, and will be returning for more fun and relaxing privacy. This spot is great. Barely anyone around, I ran and walked by dogs up the dirt road repeatedly. Close to the road but you can’t hear it. You can see other campsites but they were far enough away that I still felt somewhat secluded. Water and electricity both in the site. I spent a lot of time here because I sadly got sick during my stay and found it to be a peaceful place to recover.

We stayed for two nights at RV1 with full hookups: water, electricity, and a dump station. The ranch is incredibly peaceful and quiet. The two resident dogs even stopped by to say hello, which was a lovely touch.
Everything is exceptionally well organized and very clean. The outdoor shower is a fantastic and adventurous addition. The ranch is also only about a 30-minute drive from the Big Flat Oak entrance to Yosemite National Park.
The owner, Robb, is incredibly friendly. He came by to chat with us and make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We’d like to thank Robb for two wonderful (and wonderfully quiet) nights. We highly recommend staying here!

What a great Hipcamp! We stayed in RV site 2, and it was a solid launch pad for Yosemite exploration. There are exceptional clean bathrooms and two outdoor showers as well! The camp host, Robb, is also very kind and helpful. His book on Yosemite is excellent. You won't be disappointed with this Hipcamp!

We travel full time and we are based in St Pete Florida. This was one of our most favorite campgrounds we’ve been to in the last year. The hosts are so super sweet. We love the renovated campers, the shared outdoor kitchen, the access to the reservoir, the view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the close proximity to the little town of Bridgeport and the fun relaxed vibe. They have lightening in a bottle and I wish we weren’t so far away to be able to visit again. But if we come out west we will be there again in a heartbeat. Do yourself a favor and book a week here to unwind, relax and enjoy the perfect oasis that is Paradise Shores!!

Robb was an excellent and welcoming host. The common area is really nice for relaxing in the shade. Outdoor showers and the bathrooms were well maintained. The site was sufficiently private and we got to chat with our friendly neighbors.
I would recommend investigating which hikes/sites you plan to do in Yosemite and assure you have planned sufficient travel time. We took a beautiful 3.2 mile sunset hike to lookout point, which is a reasonable drive (though windy and narrow, with cows on the road).
We would come back in a heartbeat.

Beware of camp 212 it’s very isolated and out on the edge, we had a bear encounter, but not only that the host that night of 8/1 was useless and pretty much an a-hole he did nothing and just yelled at us in the morning that we couldn’t have two cars parked in our reservation when it specifically states that we can.

Pigeon Flat Campground
This is a walk-in campground, meaning you cannot drive directly to your site. That being said, it’s worth the effort! There are maybe 6-7 sites, and no 1 is the biggest and best. 4 sites are right along the river and you can’t even hear the traffic from highway 108 when you are on the river. We stayed for 3 nights, but most folks used it as a one night stopover perhaps on the way to backpacking? We had a huge shady area next to camp where we posted up for two days along the river with hammocks, books and snacks and were never more satisfied! We did the short trail at the parking lot to see the geologic wonder of the Giant Columns which was very interesting. Lots of birds to see (osprey especially), not many bugs, fires allowed in the pits even in mid July. If you’re up for hauling your gear down a dirt path, this place is golden and much calmer than the nearby big campgrounds

I hesitate to review this campsite because one of it's positives is that it's reasonably bookable! But I do love this campground. The sites are perfectly located, near to Lake Alpine but not on it (which is where the people who want to party tend to be). A groomed trail (a little under a mile) leads from the campground to the lake. Two things to be aware of -- you will need to be bear-safe with your food storage, and bears regularly ramble through the sites (like Yosemite).

Already left a review, but wasn't given the choice to recommend or not. Definitely a NO unless you like the adventure of quickly coming up with a 'Plan B' when campsites are full on a Thursday or when you realize you don't have enough water to make it through the week (hand pump was broken). Must love difficult roads, mosquitos, intense hail storms in August, total 'roughing it' to like this place. Yes it is beautiful, but there are much better places to go.

experienced campers - I do not recommend this place. Thought this was going to be the perfect beautiful get away for our extended weekend. What we found was a run-down campground in serious need of repairs. Picnic tables smashed into the mud or legs broken off, the water pump out of service, the outhouse broken down and not venting properly.... We were grateful we got there early in the week as the place was packed out by Thursday afternoon; I felt badly for all the campers driving in Thursday night through Saturday looking for a place to camp. This place is remote with 6 miles of bad road to get to it, and the nearest cell-service a 1.25 hour drive away (or hike to the top of a nearby peak. Heaven forbid if you have an emergency.

Difficult to get to and no amenities other than broken down pit toilets and snow-crushed picnic tables. The water pump is broken, so pack in all water. We experienced the most violent, frightening thunder/hail storm of our lives up there in July. It's high and unprotected, and the only refuge from the storm was the car. It's beautiful, but be prepared to literally be one with nature and all the elements can throw at you.

Stayed with husband and young daughter on July 31st. Campsite was nice and spacious. Area is very pretty and wooded. Unfortunately there was a group in site 37 that stayed up until 3:30am partying with loud music. The campground hosts did not make any attempt to quiet the group. We complained the next morning and were told that one of the managers had not felt well, fell asleep and did not do rounds. I was sorry the manager hadn’t felt well, but there were two people managing the campground so I didn’t understand why one of them couldn’t do rounds. People talking past quiet hours is not an issue for me, I bring ear plugs in case there is a lot of chatter, but blasting music until 3:30am is unacceptable. It was terrible experience.

Beautiful spot with a ton of potential. Unfortunately the camp host doesn't seem to have much pride in their land. The entire campground was littered in garbage. You couldn't walk more than 6 ft without seeing garbage. We had to spend 20 min walking our site picking up trash before we could unload our truck. The bathrooms work, but are disgusting.

I forgot to add there is a trail to the Lake from Cherry Valley Campground. It's about a 1/2 mile to the lake. There is also a very cool waterfall next to that trail. The trail does get steep in spots especially in dryer years. That shouldn't be the case this year!! Once upon a time, there was a rope swing at the end of the trail. The lake is quite cool early in the season with it getting much warmer by August.
I can not emphasize enough that we are stewards of these places. Show respect and clean up after yourself. If you are wilderness camping, make sure to research field sanitation. So many people go up here and have no idea of what do to with their waste!

The Cherry Valley Campground does take reservations and it has "hosts" who collect fees and empty trash. There are bears so use the bear lockers!! No kidding!!!!
I haven't camped in the camp ground for 20 years because I prefer to wilderness camp. If that's for you, I suggest Jawbone Falls which isn't far from Cherry Lake. I camp, next to Jawbone Creek. It is a pack your trash out situation. Seriously. That means your brass as well!!!
From Tuolumne take forest road 1N04 to forest road 2N22. Take 2N22 all the way until it Ts into 2N08Y. Turn right and the falls are to your right about 1 mile. Make sure you clean up after yourself!! I, personally, clean up as much trash as I can bring back with me. Honor the native people who lived there.

I've been camping up here for over 35 years!! Here's what you need to know:
The campground gets full on holidays. On the spillway side of the damn there are lots of free camping spots and port-a-poties
If you have the equipment, you can wilderness camp anywhere. No camping next to the lake unless you have a boat. Campsites in the campground cost like 20 bucks. If you like campgrounds, it's nice campground. Lake access is limited to the boat ramp area and on the opposite side of the damn. The shore is very rocky and steep. There is an island in the lake if you have a boat. There are no stores or gas stations so you need to gas up at Buck Meadow on hwy 120 or the Black Oak Casino if you come up from Sonora. Very little cellular reception

Great little out of the spot away from the busy campsites. Its situated along OHV trails which is nice if you use them however the dust is pretty bad. Campsites look roomy and not compacted next to each other.
The walk to the reservoir is about .5 miles from camp and is a very easy walk. Be sure to use some bug spray before venturing out. The mosquitoes are relentless and are all over this time of year "July-September".
In all great little spot for the OHV families and plenty of trails to visit.

Nice quiet campground away from the crowds at the lake. Hosts were very friendly, informative, and kept the facilities clean. One can either walk about 15-20min to the lake or drive out there in about 5 minutes. Definitely a lot of activities from swimming, fishing, hiking and off road trails nearby. There are also a couple of places from Bear valley to the Lake Alpine Lodge that rent out equipment. Coin operated Showers and Laundromat located at Lake Alpine lodge. Only downside was it was closer to the road than expected.

We started camping here years ago and it used to be our goto camp ground. It used to be very nice. In the past 5 years it has gone down hill steadily! Extremely crowded and camp hosts do not enforce max people per campsite. It suppose to be 6 people per site. There are consistently 12-15 people per site on the weekends. They also do not enforce noisy campers past 10pm. The past 3 years it has been so bad we won't return!
