Only 25 minutes from Yosemite's entrance gate, come stay at stunning Red Tail Ranch and avoid the overcrowded big campgrounds. Use Red Tail Ranch as an ideal launching off point for Yosemite or stay on the property and enjoy all that it has to offer. Red Tail Ranch is a beautiful 90 acre property in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Among the oak woodlands, meadows and coniferous forest, there are numerous trails to explore the property and direct riding access to a developed mountain biking area nearby. Great birding, botanizing and wildlife watching opportunities abound. We have two RV sites with hookups, a five site drive-in campground, one walk-in campsite- all with clean, flush toilet bathrooms, hot outdoor showers, indoor camp kitchen and gathering space. The Barn Room is the newest addition to the campground- a climate controlled bedroom with its own bathroom/kitchette. Whether you're pitching a tent, parking a campervan, adventure rig/rv, or looking for a comfortable room, there are opportunities for everyone. For large events, workshops or reunions, Red Tail Ranch can be rented out in its entirety- please reach out with any questions or how to do this. There is also a discount for stays longer than a week. Amenities in the campground include hammocks, basketball, cornhole, darts and a ring toss game for all to enjoy. We are 10 minutes from the small town of Groveland with a market and restaurants and just down the road from the put in for rafting on the Tuolumne river. Our pricing is a little higher than other places nearby and this is due to the property's great locations, incredible beauty, and all of the amenities added for a great experience. For Red Tail Ranch visitors looking for a little more privacy and camping with a viewshed full of nature, there are walk-in campsites. These sites are a 300 yard walk down a short, moderately steep, hill from the parking area and facilities at the Headwaters Campground. Small flat pads for tents and chairs have been cut beneath the oaks with meadow views. The walk-in campsites have full access to the showers, bathrooms, communal cooking space in the Headwaters campground as well as all the trails on property. It is not recommended to have pets at the walk in sites. The Barn Room is the newest addition to the campground at Red Tail Ranch. It’s your own private climate controlled bedroom (with queen bed) and separate private bathroom in the barn, at Red Tail Ranch’s small campground. The air conditioned/heated room has WiFi and an attached deck to relax on after a day hiking. The room across the barn is exclusively yours and has a bathroom, shower, small refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave and hot plate. Note: the bedroom and extra room are not attached to each other. The main part of the barn is a communal area for the campground with couches and tables and chairs. We had a fantastic stay at Red Tail Ranch! Our camp site was spacious and so picturesque, especially during golden hour. We really appreciated the facilities, especially the kitchen/washing up area! The site is in a great location for exploring Yosemite and close to amenities in Groveland, but also recommend exploring the trails on the property! Highly recommend to people looking for a mellow dog-friendly camping experience with great facilities, and we look forward to returning for a future stay.

If RV’ing is your style of camping, there are three things that are almost always guaranteed to be by or within earshot of your site: Trains, Planes, or Automobiles. Red Tail Ranch has none of those! Peace and quiet was on tap during our entire 4 night stay. Wish we could’ve stayed longer. Thank you Robb for hosting such a great place!

We spent two nights at the mountain quail campsite. The site was clean, well equipped with things like charging outlets, warm water etc. The showers were the highlight of our trip. Something magical about an outdoors shower with hot water and warm sunlight on your body! Robb is a 5 star host and was very responses to our queries. Will 💯 visit again!

No toilet paper in the bathrooms, no outdoor kitchen as advertised and no soap in the outside shower. Incredibly hard to find, even with instructions. The ranch was basically a construction site 1 minutes walk in any direction. Will not be staying again

Red Tail Ranch is a beautiful property with an apparent ranching history on display. The barn is a great gathering place with pleasant air flow on warmest days. The kitchen, showers, flush toilets and running water made for added comfort. Our site had nice shade and we enjoyed the trails.

Robs campground was great! Definitely a lot cleaner than most other sites and offers nice amenities. The showers were great especially after a long day in the park and the barn area was nice for winding down. We also enjoyed the WiFi and outlets since we hadn’t had service for a couple days. The location was also pretty good not too far from Yosemite and super close to Groveland area. The only thing we didn’t love was there were ALOT of wasps. Anytime we’d bring out food or even unpack our car wasps would start swarming us. This may be specific to our spot or the time of year and obviously isn’t Robs fault however, I would take it into consideration as it really made us dread eating/cooking around the site. Otherwise I’d highly recommend!

Our RV spot at Red Tail was the perfect landing location for our Yosemite adventure. Just a short drive into the park, awesome outdoor showers, well water and nature trails on the land. We had full hook ups and had everything we needed during our stay. Jackrabbits, mule deer were sighted on our walks through the property.

Great amenities for camping! Loved the outdoor showers and the modern camp bathrooms, definitely a step above camping at your typical county or state campground. They have extra spaces like the barn for somewhere shady to sit and enjoy some time with family/friends. The camp host Robb was great at communicating before, during, and after our stay which really made us feel welcome. We liked having a nice picnic table in our campsite and the nearby kitchen space/trash room. We were lucky to have a couple of hammocks right next to our site which were perfect for longing in the shade of the trees. Wish we were staying longer to enjoy the walking trails and spacious ranch! Thanks Red Tail Ranch and Robb, we will definitely be recommending to others too! 😎

Nice location if visiting Yosemite or just getting away. Bathroom and shower are great, property is maintained, peaceful and has hiking trails. The doe's and baby fawns was a nice treat. The night fills up the sky with so many stars ! Visit Groveland about 15-20 min for some restaurants or groceries. For coffee visit up Mountain Sage Coffee and while you're at it check out Robb's photography and book.

Bluebird Camp
We absolutely loved staying at Red Tail Ranch. We stayed at the Bluebird pitch, and it was perfectly located to access all of the amenities easily and also lovely to sleep under the live oak trees. We stayed two nights and used it as our rest day after weeks of road tripping. This was the perfect place for this - we lazed in the hammocks, hung out in the barn, cooked in the kitchen, took short walks on the various trails on the property, and Groveland was a quick drive away for ice cream. It would also be a great base for exploring the area more widely. The amenities were spotless - the toilets, outdoor shower (loved!), and kitchen were all great to use. You get the sense this has been set up by someone who knows exactly what they are doing and what campers would find useful. We would very much recommend and would stay there again. Make sure to take a peek at Robb's books as well - his photography is gorgeous.

Red Tail Ranch is a gem of a spot from which to explore Yosemite. The outdoor showers are a total delight and the plumbed flush toilet units are almost as good as those in a house. The land is wild and serene; we appreciated the barn, wifi, and kitchen elements that made the camping easier (and cleaner) ! Robb has thought everything through with care, including adding motion detector lights just where you need them. Robb and his wife Regina also promote live music shows and we were fortunate to be staying when a stellar trio from Asheville, NC, performed at Robb and Regina’s historic store in Groveland. I believe the next one is set for Aug 1; it adds so much pleasure to a trip. Robb was an attentive and reactive host. We hope to return!

We stayed for two nights at RV1 with full hookups: water, electricity, and a dump station. The ranch is incredibly peaceful and quiet. The two resident dogs even stopped by to say hello, which was a lovely touch. Everything is exceptionally well organized and very clean. The outdoor shower is a fantastic and adventurous addition. The ranch is also only about a 30-minute drive from the Big Flat Oak entrance to Yosemite National Park. The owner, Robb, is incredibly friendly. He came by to chat with us and make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We’d like to thank Robb for two wonderful (and wonderfully quiet) nights. We highly recommend staying here!

We made a very last minute reservation for a holiday weekend and got the last spot. It was amazing. While Robb has a lot of spots and varying accommodations (from tents to van/rv spots to cabins/homes) and was “full” we found the grounds very peaceful quiet and private. Bonus are the outdoor showers, flush toilets and kitchen to wash dishes. The owners have a great history with photography, wildlife and sustainability in the area and sense of community. We bought one of Robb’s books on Yosemite that is beautiful. We will be back! Hopefully for the live music.

Headwaters RV #2
What a great Hipcamp! We stayed in RV site 2, and it was a solid launch pad for Yosemite exploration. There are exceptional clean bathrooms and two outdoor showers as well! The camp host, Robb, is also very kind and helpful. His book on Yosemite is excellent. You won't be disappointed with this Hipcamp!

Wonderful Stay!!
Barn Room
We loved our stay in the Barn Room! The room and bathroom/kitchen were clean and comfortable. The bed was very soft, the air conditioning in the bedroom was welcome, and the hot shower was great, especially after nearly a week of camping. :) We later commented that we wished we had stayed a second night! Do note that this is a communal barn shared between all the campers (though if you are staying in the Barn Room you have two private, lockable rooms!). Everyone we met was kind and friendly, and we enjoyed Robb’s nature books out in the main sitting area. We appreciated the hot plate and tea kettle, as well as the snacks left to welcome us! Note: There were several dozen field mice in the barn overnight, and they were rather adorable! They were not in the Barn Room or kitchen/bathroom at all, but you do have to walk across the barn to the bathroom at night. Not a problem for us as we were not scared of the mice, but I could see someone else wanting to know that!

Cooper's Hawk Camp
Red Tail Ranch was such a great place to stay at. Reasonably close to the park when there is no traffic and such a nice drive. This campground has all the amenities needed to have a great stay. Showers and bathrooms are clean and camp spots are in well maintained condition. This spot has a kitchen where you can do dishes which is a plus. 2 restaurants right across the street as well. Will stay here again if i have the chance. Thanks Robb.
