Learn more about this land: Welcome to Slate Mountain where you have access to 160 acres of gated, private wilderness with 360 degree mountain views and exclusive waterfront year-round on Slab Creek. Bring your hiking boots or your off-road toys and explore 160 acres of secluded, magical forest filled with wildflowers, butterflies, ancient Pines and Cedars, wild berries, and wild game. Pitch a tent or park your RV at your choice of locations with amazing views and total seclusion. Spend the day relaxing, picnicking, and try your luck at gold panning on pristine Slab Creek where not a single human or road exists for miles. Plan a retreat. Plan a family reunion. Plan a hunting trip with the boys. Bring your motorless watercraft and spend an afternoon at Stumpy Meadows, a beautiful mountain reservoir a 25 minute drive from the property. Apple Hill wineries and farms are a 40 minute drive. If you bring the off-road toys you also have access to miles of trails throughout hundreds of acres of national forest. Don’t feel like cooking? Smoke on the Water restaurant at Finnon reservoir in Swansboro is a quick 20 minute drive from the property. If you need supplies, a nice restaurant, or a day of wine tasting to break up the grit, Downtown Placerville and Georgetown are both a 45 minute scenic drive. IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE:  1) To get the most out of your experience, we highly recommend a 4WD vehicle. 2) The creek is at the bottom of the canyon, 1.5 miles from the gate at the entrance, and the road down is very steep in parts. We highly recommend an off-road vehicle/ATV for easy access to creek. If your vehicle is 4WD you can drive approximately 1 mile down, park and hike the remaining .5 mile to the creek.  3) Be aware you are in the middle of the forest and wildlife such as bear, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, etc have been spotted on the property. Poison Oak can also be spotted in certain areas.   4) The property has cell service on the upper quadrant, however once you drop below the tree line toward the creek there is no service.

Private but far some the creek.
We had a great time and enjoyed the privacy. The mosquitos and bees were a problem so I definitely recommend a canopy with screens or a trailer. The weather was nice and hot but it was windy as you are at the top of the hill. My 4x4 Ram was only able to get about 1/4 of the way down to the creek due to downed tree(there were tons of downed trees in the area, suggest bringing a chainsaw just to be safe and not get stuck). I definitely recommend a smaller 4x4 vehicle and some experience driving off road if you plan on attempting the drive down. My truck got scratched up pretty good due to the “blackberry?” bushes. If you don’t mind hiking down a steep switchback road then I recommend just hiking. The thorny blackberry bushes were a fun obstacle and I had to do some trimming just to get down there. The water was nice and refreshing with some deep area to swim but also shallow areas to relax. Overall it was great experience, but be prepared for an intense hike(heat and steepness)to the creek if not prepared with an able vehicle.

The site was amazing! Isolated, gorgeous view and a nice space with a nearby toilet! The last 15min of the drive to the site are off-road but was completed easily with my 2WD CRV. The dogs had loads of fun! Unfortunately we couldn't drive down to the creek due to a fallen tree in the road, but it is a very short and steep walk. The site had plenty of room, the fire pit was nice and the solar powered lights to the bathroom were a nice touch. Just be warned, the campsite is covered with broken glass.

Check the weather!
Our overall experience was fun! The campsite itself was so peaceful and Elly was nice and helpful. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short due to the weather. We were aware it was going to rain on one of our days there but we were prepared and willing to deal with it for a couple of hours. What we didn’t expect was the crazy gusts of winds that destroyed our camp site. My advice with that would be to check the weather and just be prepared for any crazy wind. Of course, the weather has nothing to do with my overall experience with the campsite and Elly. Even though it’s deep in the forest we still had cell phone service where the fire pit is located. Wish we would have had more time to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and explore the property. Elly was really nice and was also able to provide a different route to the property since one of our cars was hauling a trailer. The main route maps takes you over a single lane bridge and you cannot drive trailers over it. Definitely recommend this place if you’re really trying to get away from the craziness of the city. We hope to be able to experience this place again when it’s not raining.
