I loved the camping spot under the huge redwood tree. It is a large pull through site very close to the 3 piece outdoor bathroom with hot water.. The bathroom is rustic and cute looking but has all the amenities. The site also provided a kitchen area that provides cooking spaces and a sink. We were lucky enough to receive some fresh fruit and eggs. This is a very soft friendly place and highly recommend to anyone coming through the area

My dog and I had a wonderful time staying at this campground. It was my first time camping with jsut me and my dog so I elected to stay in Choncho, Ryan's super cool VW van. It was cozy and clean! There is a lovely bathroom with hot water and a hammock that I spent too much time in. Ryan was a lovely host as well. A very short walk into a lovely historic town as well! I enjoyed every moment of my stay and would highly recommend it to anyone else!

I really enjoyed vancamping on Ryan's land. The amenities were exactly as described. The vibe is chill, the host is super friendly, and the site is ideally located for both quiet outdoor time and a walk around the historic town. I would definitely stay here again.

It's a cool camp and Ryan is really friendly. I wouldn't necessarily go there with a trailer though unless it's a very small trailer. Turn-ins are very tight and there's very limited level ground. Would be great for a sprinter van type setup.

Ryan was very welcoming and helpful. It was a great spot to stop and set up camp. He has EVERYTHING you need except a bed and food. He had lights set up, a shower, a full propane grill with two burners and tons of tables as well as a spot to do dishes. He gave great recommendations and his dogs were ADORABLE too. They are very friendly even with our dog who wasn’t so friendly so be careful about keeping your dog on leash if they have a high prey drive. I cannot say enough how awesome he was. Thanks again Ryan!

Vintage 1985 VW (Choncho)
We loved everything about Ryan’s place! The bed in the van was very comfortable, and sitting by the van watching the sunset was amazing. The bathroom was super clean, and we were able to cook on the gas stove quite well. Stargazing was awesome too! His two very friendly dogs came to say hello,

Ryan was a great host and very gracious. We purchased firewood from him and he brought us kindling twice when we were having trouble, teaching us about making fires along the way. We have an RV, but there is an outhouse with toilet and hot shower, and a sink to do dishes on the other side. Great view of the stars with minimal light pollution. Would recommend.

Great place if you want to check out the small towns in the area while camping. The shower, bathroom, and kitchen area was nice and convenient with electricity and sink. I really enjoyed the outdoor shower in the cool morning-really refreshing! There is noise from the road and dogs barking at times, so bring ear plugs if that kind of thing bothers you. Neighbors seemed to be very respectful of their dogs. It wasn't a problem for me. The walk to town was fun, but everything was closed until Thursday-Sunday). Looks like a fun winery restaurant. I found the convenience store on the corner to have some great local wine prices. It was a fun experience overall!

This camp is great! It's in a wonderful location, quite close to the river. The people who run it are very nice and made sure I had everything I needed. The only thing I would mention is that the toilet isn't covered, so if it's raining everything gets wet, including the toilet paper. Not a deal breaker (especially since rainy days can be rare), just something to prepare for.

We loved our stay on Ryan’s land in his VW Vanagon under the cedars and pines. Loved the simplicity of the set up, along with the great outdoor shower/toilet he designed. Ryan was a great host, we loved chatting with him about our love for Volkswagens. If we don’t have our bus going next trip, we’d definitely love to be back!

Camp Electra is a great place to stay. It has all the amenities; full bath with hot shower and kitchen. Ryan was a great host, easy to talk to and very accommodating. We initially setup camp at one site but it was not as shaded as other ones and he allowed us to moved our camp to whichever available one we like. Night time was quiet with occasional traffic noise. Closed to historic town and hiking trails.

Great location in the foothills of the Sierras. Walking distance or very short drive into the historic town. There is some road noise during the night as there’s an intersection is nearby.. great place for star gazing.
Camp had plenty of private space to spread out. Ryan’ was great and accommodating, and his dogs were friendly and enjoyed our dog’s company. Nice amenities including outdoor kitchen, hot shower, and gas stove.

Camp Electra is the perfect place to hhangout after a day exploring in and around Mokelumne Hill. Your host, Ryan, has built an incredible outdoor bath house with a hot shower and a tankless toilet. The VW van makes for an easy accommodation and night outside under the stars. If you're looking for a place with a communal feel definitely checkout Camp Electra! We enjoy hanging out with Ryan's two friendly dogs, too. Pro-tip: Ryan has a second VW van available that he can drive down to the site for a little more room for groups or kids (Available as an "extra" during the booking process on Hipcamp)

The property was very pretty and walkable to town. The highlight was the bathroom — toilet, shower, outlets, lights! Ryan provided tables for cooking plus firewood for a small fee. We would stay here again.

We stayed Friday night and Saturday night. There was a group staying at the campsite too. They were close by, but really respectful of noise and were similar closeness as you would find at a state campground. The van does not have a working stove, but Ryan has an outdoor double burner propane stove you can use. He has a couple pans you can use but share with the other camp if there are people there which he says this was the first time both sites were booked at the same time. The cast iron he offered needed seasoning, so I recommend just bringing your own pans, spatula, plates, bowls cups and utensils. You can hear noise from the highway, but that is often the same as state campgrounds too. The bed was soft, and more comfortable than sleeping in a tent. My partner is 6’3” so his feet dangled off the end as expected, but he said it was fine. I do not think it could fit more than 2 people. Ask Ryan ahead of time if you’re bringing a dog and want it to sleep in the van, because I don’t think he wants that if your dog sheds a lot. It was fun walking to Renegade Winery Friday night for dinner and dancing to live music with the older crowd. We drove to a hike in Stanislaus on Saturday and stopped at Posterity Cider house on the way back. The Vaught Beach swimming hole is great and only 15min drive. It seems like Ryan is still getting into the swing of hosting, but he’s really friendly and will bring you what you need from his house. We bought firewood from him which was plentiful.

We slept in Ryan's VW Camper which was very comfortable. I'd be happy camping out on his lawn without a tent as the weather gets better. Nice easy walk to Mokelumne Hill. I like hanging out in hotel bars in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Ryan's outdoor shower was good with plenty of hot water. Nice gas burners and fresh water from a sink. Too bad we didn't notice that Frank's Cafe is closed on Sunday. We waited until Sunday and blew it. The sound of traffic wasn't bothersome and his dogs are super friendly. Plenty of firewood. We brought our own cookware, but there was stuff there. I'd camp there again if I'm spending the night in Moke Hill.

We loved staying in the VW camper- it was very restful. Short walk to the town, and Ryan was very helpful. Bathroom and small kitchen were clean and functional. Had a blast having a campfire, something we never do anymore. Thanks again Ryan-I hope will be back. I recommend this hipcamp 100%!

A nice getaway from the city life. Easy and beautiful drive to site and directions were easy to follow. Ryan was there to greet us and explained how everything worked. Loved the hot shower outside even at night! Cooking over the camp fire was great. Van was very comfy.

Ryan has a pretty cool set up where you are walking distance from the town but feel secluded enough to enjoy the outdoors (you can hear a bit of traffic, but are surrounded by trees and can see the stars). The outdoor bathroom and shower is a great feature. Our old pup enjoyed hanging out with his border collies off leash. Our 25 ft rig was a bit oversized for the space but he helped us make it work!

Ryan was an attentive host. He showed us all the amenities of his handmade outdoor bathroom/kitchen, which was really nice to have access to. He provided firewood for the campfire and when he noticed us standing around without camp chairs he brought us some without asking. What a nice guy! We have a 21 ft high top camper van. We were able to easily pull into the area to park, nice and level surface. The property is on a hillside back off the street, so you're in a neighborhood but it doesn't seem like it. You could see all the stars at night. The dogs Bailey and Daisy were also super sweet and just wanted cuddles. Overall, great time. The historic Hotel Leger was awesome, good food, cool bar.
