RVers are perfectly positioned here to bask in Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty.
As its name suggests, the town of South Lake Tahoe sits on the southern shore of Lake Tahoe and provides proximity to year-round outdoor activities. It’s located right on Highway 50, which is the southern route to the lake from Sacramento (the northern being Interstate 80). In the summer, South Lake offers access to jet-skiing, kayaking, relaxing on the beach, renting a boat, or launching your own. Popular sights like Emerald Bay State Park are just up the road. In the winter, the town fills with skiers and snowboarders shredding the slopes at Heavenly Mountain Resort, one of Tahoe’s biggest resorts, known for its gondola that offers a panoramic lake view. A few RV parks with full hookups and amenities can be found in and around town, as well as campgrounds that are typically more basic. Winter sites are harder to find, but if you do, be prepared for road closures and below-freezing temperatures.
