Be mindful of poison oak and please dive 10mph on the gravel road to keep dust down for my neighbors and enjoy the only privets south yuba river access in Hipcamp responsibly. Jones Bar Farm is a quiet little seven acre hobby farm at the end of the paved section of Jones Bar Rd in Nevada City, CA. We have 4 alpacas and about a dozen chickens, who free-range all over the farm. The farm is perched near the edge of the South Yuba River canyon at about 2100 ft elevation. We are "above the fog, and below the snow (usually)." Summers are hot and dry here. Daytime temps in July and August are typically in the 90s, and night time temps are in the 70s. Spring and Fall are our favorite seasons. There is, however, potable water, and the campsites are easy to access and relatively flat. Past our property, the unpaved, and very rough, section of Jones Bar Rd continues down into the South Yuba River canyon for about 2 miles, to a lovely swimming hole. Bicycling and hiking are very popular activities in this area. If you are bringing your dog with you on your travels, you will want to be aware of the many unpleasant sticker weeds that are prevalent everywhere around here. Foxtails, filaree, and hitch-hiker weeds will all find their way into your dog’s fur. The farm is about 6 miles from both Nevada City and Grass Valley. Both towns have lively and interesting down-towns with good shopping and restaurants.

Our camping areas are fenced from the animals but you are free to explore our 12 acres and interact with the animals during your stay here. We ask that children under 10 stay outside the animal areas and children over 10 are accompanied by a grownup. We have plenty of art and child friendly activities, just ask and we can set you up. We have a no dog policy because the chickens and birds are free ranging, unfortunately we have had several bad experiences with dogs attacking the birds and other animals. If you have a dog that has been around farm animals and is well behaved, let's talk about it. We have 5 dogs so the birds have NO FEAR of them. ---- We are a working farm - PLEASE READ----- There are donkeys, roosters, dogs and peacocks that make noise, sometimes at night and always early in the morning. Please be aware that you may hear the donkeys bray (usually lasts about 30 seconds), roosters crow, guinea fowl chirp. It is startling and will wake you up. We do our best to keep the dogs hushed but we cannot stop the donkeys, roosters and peacocks from doing their thing. If you are a light sleeper, please bring earplugs or select another wonderful Hipcamp in our area, thank you! In addition to the interesting sounds you will hear, you will encounter dirt, poop and spiders. Since we are a working farm, things get dirty. We spray all high traffic surfaces twice a day but things get dirty and when it rains it is muddy. Please plan accordingly. We are centrally located between Grass Valley and Auburn, giving you access to endless recreational activities, wineries, breweries and restaurants. We have 50 or so rescued farm animals, you can interact with our pig Hank, Mojo the goat or Teddy the alpaca. NOTE: Starting Memorial Day each year, we have replaced all of our wood fire pits with gas fire pits. We have increased our prices to help cover the costs of propane. Thank you for choosing us!

River access: If you’d like to visit the river to hang out, swim, or fish you can follow the dirt road next to the tent down to the river (3-minute walk). The riverfront has lounge chairs, a picnic table, and kayak's. The riverbank has small pebbles and rocks so water shoes are highly suggested for comfort when going into the water (recommended but not needed). Come and enjoy the views of the river, forest, and wildlife! This is a private tent site with one other listing on the property which is located at the house. You may rarely see other guests during your stay. Check out is at 12pm. If you or anyone in your party stays past 12:30pm you will be charged for an extra night for your full party. For guests that come for the day but do not stay the night there is a $25 fee per guest(s). Had a really great stay at Siobhan’s land. The property is quiet, clean, and exactly what you want if you’re trying to get away from the noise for a bit. Plenty of space to spread out, and it felt private without being isolated in a weird way. Siobhan was easy to communicate with and made everything simple from start to finish. You can tell she actually cares about the space and the people staying there. Overall just a solid, stress-free spot to post up. Would definitely stay again.

The spring green was so beautiful and refreshing. There was no one there and the Blue Oak rv site was perfectly quiet and surrounded by trees and small wildflowers. The location is terrific to access Nevada City and a good deal of trails. Our only issue was the bathhouse was not fully operational, with minimal water pressure and then no water at all. We reported the toilet water tank not filling our first morning there, but it didn’t get fixed during our stay. I am certain they will repair it.

Weekend Trip to Jones Bar Farm

Super lovely hipcamp! Jones Bar Farm is up on a hilltop with beautiful rolling views, sunsets, a pond (seasonal?) and a symphony of wildlife sounds to lull you to sleep. I was here in March when the hills were green. I'd guess that this region is brown grass most of the year, but it would still be beautiful. Ann was a great host and shared a couple of fresh, delicious eggs from her hens! I would definitely stay again if in the area.

Good site the kids had fun first time camping. Didn't explore too much there was a hiking trail and many farm animals to see. Host was really nice to show us around the camp site.

Large open meadow for running around and frisbee. Two tables are provided at the site. Mountain biking, trails and easy access to the Yuba and Gold Rush towns.

Samantha is always a pleasure. Very easy to get a hold of and super accommodating. This will always be my favorite spot away from home. It's nice and quiet. I love the darkness to see the stars at night. Just a pleasure to be able to camp here.

I absolutely loved camping on Mary’s land. They had everything we needed, including electrical and water hookups, which made the stay really comfortable. The directions were clear and easy to follow, and the sound of the creek nearby was beautiful and so relaxing. I would definitely stay here again!

Drove in and initially had a hard time finding the entrance. However, we messaged the host and they came out and guided us. Once parked, they showed us where the best spot is for hook ups. It was beautiful, quiet, and there weren’t a lot of campers there. The location allowed for us to go visit Grass Valley and Nevada City and just relax. Hosts were A+++, we had a great time & will definitely return.

We had a wonderful stay at Sierra Waters Homestead. The trail just off the property was beautiful and perfect for an afternoon walk/hike. The bathrooms and cooking area were a plus and made our camping stay more like glamping! Would definitely stay again.

Very quiet and secluded area. Just minutes away from town made it easy to come and go. We pulled in at dusk and someone was there to direct me to the water and electric hook ups. Highly recommended!
