Everything was great. The location with the private access to the river. The setup tent with comfy beds and clean sheets. The view of the valley and the river. The available of kayaks by the water. Existing gas grill. Just note that if you plan to fish, there isn't much to fish, unless it is the time of the year. We went the 1st week of September

What a truly special place!! The tent was perfectly clean and the beds comfortable with just enough bedding. Having the beautiful river side all to ourselves was very special, and it’s evident that a lot of thoughtful care goes into making and keeping this place a lovely haven. While we didn’t chat with the stewards, a couple of friendly waves felt very welcoming and I certainly hope to return. Tips: most definitely have an all wheel drive vehicle, do not walk barefoot at the campground, bring picnic table and seat covers to avoid splinters, consider bringing an outdoor umbrella (a base is provided).

Communication was difficult because once onsite no cell service or WiFi - which is great (that’s what we were wanting!) but if you’re lacking something you were expecting… hard to communicate that.

Our campsite was perfect for our group. There was some shaded spots from trees at certain hours of the day. But definitely bring a canopy if you plan to stay in the hot summer days. The bbq was perfect for us to use for our bbq night. The walk down to the river was a little steep but it’s a short walk. The river was beautiful! We did a little fishing and relaxing on the water. Overall would highly recommend if you’re looking for a place to camp!

Starlight River Retreat
A very cool spot with plenty of room for four tents and flat grounds that make for comfortable sleeping conditions. The propane grill and grilling tools were very useful. The swimming hole, albeit a bit of a hike down, was gorgeous and serene. Definitely need an AWD or 4WD to drive down to the campground, but having the option to park in the driveway is a great option. However, if you choose this option, be aware that the climb up and down to the campground is quite challenging, especially in the summer heat.
A couple of cons were a stinky, uncleaned porta potty that didn't have toilet paper, and the location of the water spigot, which was up a steep hill near the driveway. Not to mention the water tasted horrendous, though it was potable.
I recommend this spot for any group camps, especially if one of the vehicles is AWD or 4WD.

I camped here with my dad and the setting was beautiful and peaceful. Fishing was fun (but mostly small fish), and the host was incredibly kind—he even gave us a ride back up the hill in his truck after a tough hike in.
Important heads-up: You really need a 4WD to reach the campsite. We didn’t have one and had to haul our gear half a mile down a steep, rocky path. It was rough, especially for my dad in his late 70s. If you like hiking in, just be sure to pack light!
The cabins are very basic (comfy beds, a few hooks, not much space), and we had ant issues even with food stored carefully. Heads up, the portapotty hadn't been cleaned in a while and smelled pretty bad when we got there.
If you’re prepared and ideally have the place mostly to yourself, it’s a lovely river escape. The host alone makes it worth the visit.

Awesome hosts and property. We'll definitely be coming back again. The swimming hole was gorgeous with super clear water. Plenty of room at the campsite. Great views of the surrounding canyon.
The only cons I can think of was the toilet was a bit of a hike away and the path to the river is a little steep. These are by no means a deal breaker though, just observations.
We are already excited for our next trip back!

Spent one night only. I Loved the cabins, the fire pit, the bbq grill and the access to the river in the property. I will definitely come back next year and stay longer.

We loved this spot for our family and our friend's family. There was another small group at the nearby large tent location, which could be heard but not seen. The porterpotty was clean and well situated, just far enough that the smell did not waft over. We enjoyed swimming swimming and exploring up and downstream the semi-private oasis. Night time was great stargazing and gathering by the fire pit.
Pros:
1) Plenty of picnic tables (5) one of them was between the cabins, which allowed for more variation in shade.
2) The BBQ grill had a side burner and the property caregiver supplied us with 2 frying pans, a large pot, and a spatula.
3) Extra propane was provided, in case the grill or the firepit ran out.
4) There were plenty of beds, conveniently made with sheets and pillows. The last cabin has large bunk beds and a futon, and we ended up just sleeping in the bunks (parents on bottom, 2 kids on top, leaving the futon as a couch.
5) Property was clean and calm.
Minuses:
1) There was a sink by the other site's porter potties that we only noticed on the way out. We washed our dishes with a team of two people, one holding the bottle and the other washing over the edge of the property.
2) There weren't any trails by the river/creek, so the only way to explore was on top or rocks. This was fun for the parents and the kids, but impossible for some dogs and grandparents.
3) Sleeping was a bit hot. Window and door on same side of cabin. Flannel sheets in the summer did not help.

What an awesome spot to take in some camping time along a creek! The host's accommodations are super helpful having a picnic table, grill & tools, propane fire pit, rest room w/hand wash, giant tent already setup, aaaand kayaks you use. Would love to make our way back again!

The land is beautiful but the cabin smelled like chemicals (think they just built them), was very hot, and the electricity didn't work. Ended up sleeping in my car instead. Granted there was a heat wave so to be expected and there's no cell service down there - otherwise would've let the owner know.

Our family loved camping at this very private river oasis! Although it was really hot that weekend, the river kept us cool and it was just perfect for our two cattle dog puppies and our 8 yo, he was never bored here! The tent was huge with room for 5-6 people on real beds! The kayaks were so fun for exploring and the water was the perfect temp for swimming. There was a perfect kid sized rock to jump off and bring goggles for the kids so they can see all of the fish! Also; water shoes are a must. We used the provided BBQ both nights. Bring a pop up or two for shade at the campsite and lots of ice as it’s pretty sunny up there. We had visitors join us on the second day and there is a charge of $25 per visitor for day use. It’s worth it though. You will need a 4WD to get to the campsite, it’s a short drive down. Cell service is bad but some messages do come through, if you drive up the hill, you can find service. We really enjoyed the privacy of this beautiful California gem. The only flaw is that the Porta potties were very, very full at the campsite, the one at the top of the hill wasn’t as bad and worth the hike. That being said, I still give this space and this nice host five stars!!!

Overall our group had a fun time at this location. Our dislikes were the porta potty that was extremely smelly and initially right next to the bbq and seating area. The host was nice enough to move it but the smell was still pretty bad. The small cabins are painted black and absorb so much heat, making it hard to sleep in them at night. The river was great for swimming and relaxing, but not easily accessible since it’s down a very steep and very rocky path.

Riverside Retreat
Although we were disappointed to learn that campfires were prohibited due to fire season, the host more than made up for it by providing gas grills and fire pits at two nearby locations. The host was also very kind and accommodating, ensuring all our needs were met. Beyond that, the cabins, tent, river, kayaks, swimming, and fishing were all wonderful aspects of the trip.

The river is gorgeous and the campsites are well maintained. The drive down and walk down to the river is a bit treacherous but do able. But they need to clean out the porta potties more often. We had to set up, eat and cook far from them due to the smell.

Overall an okay experience. The main pain point was that the porta potty’s were very smelly. The entire campsite was stinking the entire time we were there. The port a potties should be kept further away from camp and cleaned out regularly. The provided tent was not very clean either and had cobwebs all over. The path down to the river is a little treacherous so is the path down to camp without an AWD car.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming camp over the weekend. The property is beautiful, with small, cozy cabins nestled in well-shaded areas. There is a gas grill making it perfect for outdoor cooking. Although the cabins can get a bit warm in the afternoon, the nearby river offers a refreshing spot to cool down and swim during the summer.
The host was exceptionally kind and accommodating. The drive down to the cabins and tent site is quite steep and challenging, but the host went above and beyond by allowing us to park at his house and even helped transport our belongings in his truck.
The river area is stunning and a lot of fun to swim in, shared between the cabins and the tent site. There's good privacy between the two, although you might see other guests by the river. We had a fantastic weekend and highly recommend this beautiful property to others looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway.

We went with our 2 kids (5 and 7) and had a wonderful time. Yurt is really well set up and very spacious for the 4 of us. We swam in the lake, did some fishing (caugh a small trout and a rockfish and threw them back) and used the kayaks. At night we did some great bbqs on the gas bbq provided and capped with a bonfire and some s'mores. Dan the host was super attentive. We definitely plan to go back

Really great spot by the river: they have 3 cozy cabins and a large tent. After a short walk downhill, you have a great spot to hang out, swim and explore by the river. Would definitely come back.

Gorgeous spot! I’m already plotting my next trip here. The river area was dreamy and idyllic. Perfect for lounging and dipping in the water. The camp area was comfortable and well-equipped (BBQ, plenty of seating, propane firepit, portopottie, canvas tent with beds/sheets). We loved spotting wild turkeys and deer by the campsite, and fish in the river!
The portopottie was precariously full, though; I would consider having it pumped slightly more often. :)

The spot itself is amazing - pristine river, tons of camping space, a nice yurt, and amenities like a propane firepit and BBQ grill.
There were a few downsides though that we wish we were aware of.
1) While the Hipcamp description mentions there are guests at the house property who you "may rarely see", what's not mentioned is that Airbnb guests are encouraged to come down to the river, which requires them to walk through the campsite. If you're wanting a totally private experience as being advertised, this is something you may want to consider.
2) When we arrived, the porta potty was already quite full and frankly gross (maggots!). Wasn't very usable by the second night. Maybe a one-off overlook by the host, but we were definitely surprised.
3) Lastly, while it's not in the site reservation page itself, there is a late checkout policy written in the property listing page at the bottom of the About description. No communication about it anywhere else, nor with the host on the phone. Considering how serious the policy is, we were expecting it to be communicated more transparently.

This place was truly amazing, such a peaceful little getaway. The water was so beautiful and clear, we spent so much time swimming. Having the tent, bbq grill and propane fire pit set up made this trip so easy to get into and less time spent setting up. Dan was so kind to bring us more propane in case we ran out! We plan to come back and bring family and friends to enjoy this beautiful place.
