Sugarpine Slopes at Grouse Ridge

It is on this property that I saw my first grouse. Also look for warblers-notably Audubon's and the Hermit Warblers- along with the White-headed Woodpecker. You will likely hear a Pileated Woodpecker and if you are lucky you will see one Learn more about this land: Welcome to Sugarpine Slopes. The Sugarpine has the longest cones in the world and many birds and mammals like the pine nuts and use the tree for habitat. This is a spring through fall place only. There is no winter access. The property is at 5800 feet. Depending on the weather the road may close from Nov 15th to May 15th. The road on the property is a dirt road. All wheel drive or 4WD vehicles recommended although the lower section could be accessed by most vehicles. Shorter trailers allowed at Site A. Site 3 can also accommodate a small teardrop-style trailer The property is totally undeveloped at this time. It is a wildlife corridor for deer and bear (keep all food contained), the mountain quail and the blue grouse. Keep your eyes open for the Hermit Warbler, Audubon's Warbler, and our gorgeous visitor from the tropics the Western Tanager. You are likely to hear the Pileated Woodpecker and if you are lucky you will see it and its red crest in an undulating flight through the trees. The property has a lovely west facing slope which climbs gradually at first then more steeply to the top of the property. We have drive-in camping on the lower section. There is one walk-in site at the top of the property. There is wonderful hiking nearby with several trailheads in the area within approximately 4 miles. Our property is lakeside at Rollins Lake In Colfax. We live on over 30 private, beautiful acres with footpath access to Rollins Lake. (3 minute walk from the dome or house, and 10-15 minutes from the cabin) where most summer days here are spent swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing ect., down at the water. Please note the Cabin is set on a seasonal CANNABIS garden. All three sites are vacation spots with AC and WIFI, not just simple accommodations, but experiences. The remarkable property is very hilly with pines and oaks. You can follow our driveway to the bottom and access the beginning of The Bear River which has a nice hiking trail alongside it or drive 8 minutes to the nearest boat ramp and 10 minutes to the town of Colfax where you will find gas, groceries, and restaurants. We have a beautiful spot where you will not see any neighbors so it is peaceful and private with gorgeous 360-degree views. It is also very safe! Bask in nature, quiet, and privacy! In summer there is a 3-night minimum for the cabin and dome. Occasionally a two day midweek will pop up on the schedule last minute. To see correct pricing, enter your dates as they can fluctuate with holidays, weekends. Prices are decreased midweek. We have 3 accommodations on the property -A GUEST SUITE (lakeside), up to 5 people. -A CABIN (15 min walk or 3 min drive/5 min walk, up to 4 people. -A GLAMPING DOME with an additional teepee tent site (lakeside)! We are stewards of this land, graciously grateful to grow food such as corn, broomcorn, pumpkins, flowers, and watermelons under the sun. This land is located less than 20 mins to multiple different Yuba River access points. We are also located in the Armpit of Nevada county with 3 access ways 15 mins each way to Grass Valley, Nevada City or Penn Valley. The neighborhood of this area is also one of the more safer bike friendlier places, you can ride into town along the NID trails, or set up camp and head up the 20HWY less than 20 mins to enjoy Epic Mountain Biking Trails. Not only are we crafty, but also nature enthusiasts to feel free to reach out and ask about fun things to do here, if you are looking to stay busy exploring the nature. We also have a beautiful sunset hike that overlooks some beautiful views. Oracle Oak Grove has a wide variety of camping options. We have a camp grounds on the lower end of the property that currently hosts 4 different camp sites. the 3 May Pole zone, and 1 Faerie fields. There is one shared Bonfire zone that can be used for friends camping together during the spring and late fall months when we are not in fire season. We love hosting groups and birthday parties. Also individual campers as well. We have two yurts available if you are more into the Glamping experience or especially if camping in the winter. The Witches Hut and The Little Witch Hut! The Witches Hut which is larger and can fit a family of 3 or 4. This hut includes a patio, grill, and Private entrance. The Little Witch Hut is smaller and more suitable for a couple or a single person wanting some solo retreat time. This one has cooking amenities accessible in an outdoor kitchen just outside the yurt. This one also gets better access to the Starlink available on the property. This yurt has the compost toilet outside and is a less than minute walk to it. Both yurts have the ability to park fairly close to them and both are fully furnished. The Yurts are available for a higher expense than the camping of course. We are sorry to say that Hot tub season is now closed. We do have a wood-fired Cedar Hot tub, she is our Cauldron she is only available during winter and very early spring visits. I am sorry, but due to fire season and her being wood-fired she is not available outside hot tub season. If you are interested in the experience it requires advanced noticed as well as an extra charge for wood, cleaning, and tending. She is a labor of love, and such a unique experience. Enjoy the smell of cedar, chlorine free waters under the stars. Enjoy and hopefully you come and experience the Magic we have made Stewarding these acres. PLEASE come check in before DARK. We are in a very Rural Area and it can be difficult to see a night where to park and camp. We have pathways and lights to guide, but there is a DESIGNATED parking zone and a cart available to carry your stuff to your CAMPSITE. This is not a CAR Camping spot there is ONE car camping site and the rest you is a very short walk to your site. Thank you.

Weekend Trip to Roughlands

The platform and tent were awesome. Super chill spot. Great for relaxing. The bathhouse was luxurious!

Solen was a lovely host, who knows the area really well. The spot is beautiful, if rustic (was fine for my crew, and a great deal!) and a short drive from both Nevada city and the river. I’d recommend bringing bug spray and Technu for poison oak, if you’re going to stay here, and hang out in the area in general.

The directions were very helpful and the camp location around the meadow is truly magical and beautiful. We slept so well, we had lovely camp neighbors and Adam was helpful as a host. Also the cutest shower and outhouse toilets!

2 nights at Bright Bear Camp in Tahoe NF

This place was AMAZING. The little cabin was gorgeous, simplistic but totally decked out with whatever we needed. It was pretty private, and overlooked an amazing patch of forest. Kelley was amazing, so very helpful and kind, she really made sure we had everything we needed. The area was pretty remote, but not challenging to find. Felt just lost enough, but safe the entire time! There’s a sweet little river nearby, and you can hear it from the campsite, it was a short little walk to get there. Cold but stunning. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough. The tent camping looked amazing too, but my partner and I will for sure be back for the little cabin. All in all, the area was gorgeous, the host was phenomenal, the cabin was perfect. Can’t wait to go back! (also shoutout to Kelley’s neighbor Laurie, who was also really kind and generous!)

2 nights at Bright Bear Camp in Tahoe NF

Outstanding host and campsite. Super easy to find a few miles off 80. Great description of Kelley’s land and direction. We stayed at site3 which is next to the “house”. Big enough for our Sprinter van and bike rack (about 23 feet). Kelley is the perfect blend of helpful and non intrusive. There are 2 ports potties- one inside a building with a sink and one outside in a potty tent( nicer then it sounds lol!) the camp is all solar Powered. We plugged into the system for about an hour (just ask 1st) to run our van battery back to 100 percent. There was water as well but we didn’t need it . Outdoor shower. Outdoor sink for washing dishes. She brought us a thermocell for mosquitos which was really helpful! Pay the $60 to use the sauna. What a treat! It’s heated with firewood and has a cold plunge bucket outside. Big enough for 2-3. She even brought us towels for sauna. We hiked along the bear river which is beautiful and there was an official hiking trail where the road connects with Hwy 20. So peaceful and lovely ! Adorable eve lights that illuminate paths around camp. There are some swinging Adirondack chairs too. We would absolutely stay here again. It took us about 30 minutes to Truckee and one hour to Tahoe city /sunnyside area. Dog was very welcomed and loved it too. Things to note: it is 2 miles down a dirt road . Bring what you need or rent from Kelley. There were some very cute tent/car camping spaces on site as well. Highly recommend this gem

We loved staying here! The campsite had a great view! It was remote and quiet, even with other guests nearby. The bathroom is so nice and the hot tub was a special touch, especially after paddle boarding. It would be tight for 8 people, but worked for 2 tents. We can’t wait to return!

Kelley and Pearl were both great. Pearl was stocked with everything you need, nice cookware, bed was comfy, property is beautiful, and so much to do nearby. Kelley shared some good recommendations for trails and maintains the camper very well. I definitely recommend!

Our family of four (2 kids, age 7 & 9) had a great time. The lake was so calm and private. Appreciated all the kayaks available, my kids had the best time riding the kids kayaks and fishing off the pier. The bathrooms do the job. The kiosks are nice and were equipped with chairs, a small table to prepare food on and a cooler that you could take down to the lake. Really thoughtful hosts! Thank you so much!

Weekend Trip to Wisdom eco-preserv

Stayed in the Serentity cabin and it was so nice. It was quiet and comfy with pretty much everything you would need is provided. Comfy beds, kitchen stuff and a wood stove for keeping warm. The shower and bathroom at the main house were definitely a huge plus after a dusty summer hike. I would stay here again for sure!

Beautiful site. Peaceful, private and quiet. We strolled around and enjoyed the view from the hills. We saw quail, ducks, and a blue heron at the pond. And heard frogs and owls at night. Perfect big dipper skies. Akhi and the other farm folks were super friendly and helped us get situated.

Such a beautiful setting! Perfect for a camping/nature getaway without dozens of other campers around if you were to camp at a public site. Chris and Rebecca were so welcoming and full of local recommendations, but we still felt like we had the quiet we were looking for.

Very pretty campsite, Mike was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Our group had some additional requests that he accommodated very easily, if you need a good spot to camp out for a few days this is the place.

Weekend Trip to Love Creek Sanctuary!

It was a great experience at love creek. We get to relax and interact with the farm animal. Definitely a camping experience that we never had before. Host is very nice and friendly.

If you like a long walk it is 2.5 miles down the dirt road to Oregon Creek and the middle fork of the Yuba. Driving takes 5 to 10 mins. The other direction is the largest lake in our county Bullards Bar Reservoir and Emerald Cove Marina. We are 1 mile down Marysville Rd. from a launch called dark day. There is a trailhead at the top of overflow boat parking for a public swimming hole on the lake. On our property, we have a main house with its own private facilities such as a kitchen, shower, and bath. On the land, we have 9 total unique cabin and canvas tent structures converted into boutique-like campsites. We have an epic outdoor entertaining kitchen and patio with an outdoor pizza oven and a little dog rinse behind the outdoor shower. The bathhouse is right across the way and provides a private but shared guest shower house, tub and sink. The sauna and fenced-in dog area are near the shipping container site. The sauna has just been remodelled with a shower and bathtub right outside the sauna house. Like anywhere in the woods there is an hour at sunset when you may have mosquitoes down near the sites in the spring and some of the summers depending on the year. We have a natural spray for that or fans in the kitchen. Off the path, you may find poison oak in the thick of the woods. So please stay on the marked trails.

Bright Bear Camp in Tahoe NF

Bright Bear Camp is a private two-acre property bordering Tahoe National Forest. We are located at 4300' elevation down a mostly dirt road along the beautiful Bear River and Bear Valley. This is a very peaceful spot among the trees with a small meadow and creek on the property. As our name suggests, bears are occasionally in the area so keep an eye out. You may also see the spotted owls that live nearby - listen closely for their calls (https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Spotted_Owl/overview). There is much to explore in the area and more with only a short drive to the South Yuba River, Emerald Pools, Lake Spaulding, Donner Pass, Donner Lake, and Truckee.

Once you start down the road there is no place to turn around until you are at the bottom of the canyon. Campsite 1 has very little tree coverage. Campsite 2 is nestled among trees. * The property used to be an operating gold mine. There is old equipment onsite. DO NOT climb or touch any of the old equipment! Lake Concow Campground

Ancestors of Maidu people lived here long ago. European settlers arrived and took control of the area. In recent history, a multi-cultural group of community members formed the Konkow Partnership to attempt to hold, steward, and preserve the wilderness that survives here. We look forward to your post fire visit. Learn more about this land: Congratulations Campers! The campground is reopened after the last couple of years of wild fires and tough winters. We are reopened even as repairs and upgrades are being made. Thank you to all visitors who love this place for your patience as we continue to improve the features of the Campground. Visit, fish, or camp in a rare jewel forest, hidden in the Sierra/Cascade foothills, less than an hour's drive to Chico, Oroville, or Paradise. Surviving forests of mature cedars, pines, oaks, and madrones provide shady camping, fishing along the lake shore, or picnicing along the banks of the creek that runs through a recovering creekside area. Stargaze or fly kites in our Great Meadow or admire copious wildflowers and other native plants on over 80 acres of wilderness. We provide a variety of recovering wilderness areas near water faucets, pit toilets and an RV dump station. Our site features mature forests, grassy meadows, a year-round creek in a fire recovery zone. The site also features lakefront shoreline access for bank fishing, a central fire pit and lots of space for group camping. Fires are permitted in the central pit when weather allows. The Lake Concow/Konkow Campground is a wilderness sanctuary and houses many variety of rare and endangered plants, animals, and insects. Please be aware of and give respectful space to all of the residents of the park. The list of year round residents may include poison oak, thorny berry vines, mosquitoes, ticks, spiders, deer, eagles, osprey, owls, squirrels, skunks, foxes, bears, mountain lions, snakes, bats, and more. Please be responsible for personal camp supplies and trash. The Campground is a Pack In/Pack Out location and garbage cans are supplied near the office house near the entrance. Good hiking shoes, protective clothing, and hats are recommended. All Campground faucets supply delicious, potable water tested regularly. The modern listings spell the name Concow, Ancestors spelled it Konkow. Both are correct, though may give different search results. There is plenty of room for parking large vehicles and for turning around. TOW VEHICLES MUST STAY THE DURATION OF THE CAMPING VISIT. Love Creek Sanctuary!

Love creek sanctuary was founded in 2016. It all started with Stu the steer and his best friend Petey the goat, from there we have rescued over 90 animals, 45 make their home here at the sanctuary. Our camping areas are fenced from the animals but you are free to explore our 12 acres and interact with the animals during your stay here. We ask that children under 10 stay outside the animal areas and children over 10 are accompanied by a grownup. We have plenty of art and child friendly activities, just ask and we can set you up. We have a no dog policy because the chickens and birds are free ranging, unfortunately we have had several bad experiences with dogs attacking the birds and other animals. If you have a dog that has been around farm animals and is well behaved, let's talk about it. We have 5 dogs so the birds have NO FEAR of them. ---- We are a working farm - PLEASE READ----- There are donkeys, roosters, dogs and peacocks that make noise, sometimes at night and always early in the morning. Please be aware that you may hear the donkeys bray (usually lasts about 30 seconds), roosters crow, guinea fowl chirp. It is startling and will wake you up. We do our best to keep the dogs hushed but we cannot stop the donkeys, roosters and peacocks from doing their thing. If you are a light sleeper, please bring earplugs or select another wonderful Hipcamp in our area, thank you! In addition to the interesting sounds you will hear, you will encounter dirt, poop and spiders. Since we are a working farm, things get dirty. We spray all high traffic surfaces twice a day but things get dirty and when it rains it is muddy. Please plan accordingly. We are centrally located between Grass Valley and Auburn, giving you access to endless recreational activities, wineries, breweries and restaurants. We have 50 or so rescued farm animals, you can interact with our pig Hank, Mojo the goat or Teddy the alpaca. NOTE: Starting Memorial Day each year, we have replaced all of our wood fire pits with gas fire pits. We have increased our prices to help cover the costs of propane. Thank you for choosing us!

Camp Watanda at Lake Vera

FYI: We are a very small lake and experience seasonal lows towards the end of the summer. I cannot predict what the lake condition will be in August. Camp Watanda is a retired resident camp that we have converted to a vacation rental. We have 10 acres of wooded property, with the 4 camping kiosks close to the waterfront and 1 RV site on the waterfront. The camping kiosk all have 8-10 mattresses, grilling table, picnic table, cooler, smoke alarms, rake, broom and fire extinguishers. We are pet friendly with 1 dog per kiosk. Tents can be pitched on the elevated decks. Our waterfront has a large fire ring, 2-covered pergolas, canoes, kayaks, life jackets and charcoal grill. Lots of fish in the lake, since this is a private lake, no license is required. There is also a bathhouse (very primitive and in serious need of remodel) close by with 3 showers, 3 toilets and 3 sinks. Up by the lodge is a cell phone charging station and Wi-Fi, while we do have Wi-Fi, it is not guaranteed, we are in the mountains with inconsistent connection. Lodge is not available to campers as this is rented separately. No dispersed camping. RV CAMPING: Because of the steep driveway and blind curve, we limit the vehicle length to 25 overall length. Our driveway is more suitable for RV's and Camper Vans and not Travel Trailers being towed. If you rent a kiosk, all campers must be on the same kiosk unless you rent a second kiosk. If you have a camping van and plan on using the van and the kiosk, then that is a second site. You cannot tailgate on a reservation just because the party only has 2 people on the kiosk, and you have 2 in the Van to make 4 people. These are tents sites on a Kiosk, there is parking for cars or trucks at the kiosk, not suitable for RV or Travel Trailers. Those vehicles will have to park at the waterfront parking lot. There are no refunds for cancellations within 72 hours of arrival. Camp Watanda is private property, campers assume all liability for being on site. There is no lifeguard present. This is a natural habitat for woodland animals, there is an associated risk for camping in their home. Slips, trips and falls can occur on trails, camping structures and waterfront.

My dad bought the farm in 1975 and it used to be a working dairy and sheep farm. My dad passed away while cutting our 6 acre oat field on mothers day 2003, our little farm started to break down. We have been working on it to bring it back to life and hope to have it up and running strong again soon. Hopefully have a produce stand or garden soon to offer more options for our guests. Learn more about this land: Our farm is 3miles west of town within 10 miles to Black Butte lake for fishing, boating, hiking, and even disk golf. Right off of I-5 by a Pilot travel center. 4496 county road DD and also shows as Orange grove ave on some GPS maps. Public pool 3miles(1pm-5pm, water arobics Tue and Thur 6-7pm $2, family night Tue and Thur 730-9pm June-Aug) as well as shopping and dining within 3miles. Great sunset and area to roam for a bike ride or walk in the country in our little hick town with only about 8000 population. It is very likely you will hear animals so if your a light sleeper you may want ear plugs. Chickens crow and roam, cows bellow from all sides, and dogs bark and welcome guests. No trespassing sign for hunters and people that DO NOT have permission to be here. Driveway is rough and we are working on getting it fixed asap so please take your time coming up. There is FIELD roaches you may see soon after we irrigate, they are bigger then the nasty cockroach but harmless. The wind can be rough at times up here on our lil hill so be prepared with extra rope to tie down and secure if your in a tent, also park vehicle to help block from wind and driveway. It does get up into the high 100°s here during the summer so it would be good to have shade or plan to keep cool during the hottest parts of the day. The toilet is a outhouse with solar lights and does not flush. Longer stays are best done at sites 4 and 5 further from the driveway. Quick stops just to sleep are best at 1 and 2. Rainy weather only sites 5, 6 and 1 are usable sadly

Spanning more than 15,000 surface acres and offering 167 miles of shoreline, Lake Oroville is the largest reservoir in northern California. Created by the tallest earthen dam in the country, the area is a popular outdoor recreation area. Enjoy boating, sailing, paddling, swimming, watersports, and fishing on the lake, or explore miles of hiking and biking trails nearby. A visitor center complex offers a museum, shop, and viewing tower with telescopes. More than 20 campgrounds feature a variety of ways to stay overnight, including tent sites, RV sites, boat-in campsites, floating campsites, and equestrian campsites.

Notable campgrounds

Best for unique on-lake camping experience: Ten Floating Campsites on double decker pontoons each offer room for up to 15 to stay overnight on the lake itself.
Best for RVs and amenities: Bidwell Canyon Campground is the only campground offering full hook-ups, and easy access to the visitor center and marina.
Best for equestrians: Loafer Creek Horse Camp offers 15 sites and includes corrals, horse exercise and washing stations, accessible restrooms, and shows.

Tips for snagging a campsite

For dates between Memorial Day and Labor Day, reserve a campsite as soon as you know your dates. Reservations can be made from two days and up to six months in advance.
If you don’t have a reservation but you do have a boat, arrive first thing in the morning to grab a first-come, first-served, boat-in campsite.
If your plans are flexible, visit during the week or during non-holiday periods to beat the crowds.

When to go

The lake sees the most visitors in summer, especially when temperatures soar, and on weekends. Visit in spring for impressive wildflower displays and the best fishing. Fall is a good time for sunsets and to see spawning at the fish hatchery, while winter brings fewer crowds and cold—though rarely freezing—weather.

Know before you go

Campers at the floating and boat-in campsites need to bring their own drinking water.
Marinas at Bidwell Canyon and Lime Saddle offer boat rentals, fuel, supplies, store, and snack bar. Non-motorized watercraft can be rented from the Aquatic Center in the North Forebay, which doesn’t allow motor boats.
The only designated swim areas, where boats and fishing are not allowed, are at Loafer Creek and near the Aquatic Center. Lifeguards are only available seasonally.
Fishing licenses are required for those 16 and older. Slot limit regulations may apply for black bass.
Accessible areas include the visitor center, some campsites, restrooms, and some portions of the marinas, fish cleaning stations, and trails.
Fires are permitted only in designated fire rings, subject to fire restrictions. Driftwood may be collected and used, or purchased from camp hosts.
