Bright Bear Camp is a private two-acre property bordering Tahoe National Forest. We are located at 4300' elevation down a mostly dirt road along the beautiful Bear River and Bear Valley. This is a very peaceful spot among the trees with a small meadow and creek on the property. As our name suggests, bears are occasionally in the area so keep an eye out. You may also see the spotted owls that live nearby - listen closely for their calls (https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Spotted_Owl/overview). There is much to explore in the area and more with only a short drive to the South Yuba River, Emerald Pools, Lake Spaulding, Donner Pass, Donner Lake, and Truckee.

Campsite 2 - Across the Meadow
Absolutely wonderful host. Loved the outdoor shower after the hikes in the heat. Loved sleeping under the moonlight with the way the campground was set up. Beautiful creek and mini waterfall on the way. This is by far my favorite place to stay. It's quiet and I felt super safe knowing I was a solo traveler for a few days. It's super close to amazing hiking trails and views. I can't wait to come back. Kelley truly was an amazing host. Very helpful and quick with answering questions and willing to work with what suited you as a guest.

Campsite 3 - Under the Trees
Location and host were great and very responsive. There was a toilet, outdoor shower, and outdoor sink which was incredibly convienant. It was very quiet and hardly heard the other campers at the other sites but unfortunately there were a lot of mosquitos which we weren’t expecting with how hot it was. We understand this is not something that the hosts have much control of (it’s a heavily wooded area) but we have never experienced that amount before. Both my partner and I and our dog ended up with dozens of mosquito bites each even with bug spray. I would only recommend if you have a mosquito net or a screen canopy tent.

Campsite 2 - Across the Meadow
Quiet and peaceful
We had a great stay. Kelley is very welcoming. I loved having a kitchen area for washing dishes and potable water in the bathroom sink for brushing my teeth. We knew that camping in the mountains in June means that you should come prepared with mosquito repellent. We also tried out a thermacell repeller and it worked great. Thanks for a great stay!
