Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Bright Bear Camp is a private two-acre property bordering Tahoe National Forest. We are located at 4300' elevation down a mostly dirt road along the beautiful Bear River and Bear Valley. This is a very peaceful spot among the trees with a small meadow and creek on the property.
As our name suggests, bears are occasionally in the area so keep an eye out. You may also see the spotted owls that live nearby - listen closely for their calls (https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Spotted_Owl/overview).

Our 42 acres is located at the beginning of the award winning Adelaide Wine trail in Paso Robles.
Our ranch was once home to a horse boarding and breeding ranch which bred Paso Fino horses, known for their beautiful gait.
Having been a horse ranch, it left us with some nice trails that you can enjoy during your stay.
We have some nice uphill walks to view your local surroundings while sitting to enjoy a glass of wine or you morning cup of coffee/tea.
We are on a well out here so at times you may get a sulphur/mineral smell to the water.
Please bring your own drinking/cooking water.
It is safe to shower, my hair feels so much thicker!
On the ranch you will see that we have 2 donkeys, Desi (black) and Lucy (light grey).
Along with our donkeys we have to friendly goats, Fiona (brown) and Sadie (white), they love carrots.
but please stick to one carrot a day each, we don't want to over feed them.
We also have chickens which means have farm fresh eggs. $5 for 1/2 dozen.
Up on the hill you will see Connie a cow and her buddy Samuel, the bull. they love carrots but please do not go into their pasture. She'll think you're bringing food and gets very dangerously excited.
Please feel free to walk the property and become one with nature while observing the local indigenous floral and fauna.

The Road needed to be built wide and smooth in order to transport the Hale Telescope. The construction had to stop due to the start of WW2. Once WW2 had ended the work was completed 1948.
The Base Camp first name was Palomar Gardens, Then Oak Knoll Camp and is now being rebranded back to its Original Name Basecamp Palomar.
The property is rustic, a little dusty and very old school. If you're looking for a new type of camping with 5-star amenities we recommend Pala or Pechanga Resort RV Park Casino RV Park.

The Airstream is new to the ranch and is a work in progress, but you'll love the charm of hanging out in a very cool vintage trailer. We'll soon be adding some layers of paint, shine, and lots of love, so make sure to follow our progress in fixing the ole girl up!
Our location is also unique because we are fully fenced in and have a separate turn out space for your horses (check add-ons for camping with your horse). We also have a small 1954 Camper ("Lucy") that can act as a second bedroom for more sleeping space (check for add-on).
**WHEELCHAIR ACCESS: We can provide a ramp for the Airstream for accessibility, though please be aware the camper is small, likely not wide enough for a standard wheelchair, and the bathroom is also small and doesn't meet ADA standards. Please ask if you have questions?!

Welcome to Coco, the 1970 Overlander 27’ Airstream! We have tried to preserve her 50-year-old charm as much as possible and are still in the process of restoring her to her original glory. Our family of 4 humans, two dogs, and one guinea pig lived in Coco while our house was being built. It was quite an adventure!
Coco is nestled in the foothills of the Sierras on our semi-private 4-acre property. Easy access to Grass Valley, Nevada City, and the Yuba River. Coco the Airstream is fully functional with a kitchen and bathroom. There is one full-ish size bed that sleeps two comfortably in the bedroom area, and the couch can fold into one twin-sized bed.
We are located about 15 minutes to town and 10 to the nearest grocery store. Coco the Airstream shares the property with a private family of four humans and two dogs in a house at the top of the hill. My parents are full time RVers and often stay in the other RV spot on our property throughout the year when they are taking a break from traveling. The two dogs are very friendly but may bark to greet you upon your arrival.

Weekend Trip to One Thing Ranch - Alpacas & Llamas
This was an amazing experience! My friend and I stayed in the airstream (which had an ac) and kept us nice and cool. It was so spacious and clean. The kitchen was fully stocked inside the airstream and so was the one outside! Nancy provided utensils, pots, pans, etc. She even provided sheets for the beds. We were able to get a tour of all the alpacas and llamas and feed them! And the friendly barn cat greeted us every morning. Nancy even gave us a beautiful recommendation to go swimming at Lewiston Lake since the river was too cold. You can tell all the love that goes into this place. We will be staying here as often as possible. It has everything you could possibly need, even a flush toilet and a hot shower. Thanks for having us !

I really enjoyed my airstream. I think some written instructions on the air conditioner would be helpful. It wasn't quite as away from everything as I thought but the neighbors in the cabins were fine. I LOVED the donkeys and was so glad I brought apples and carrots.

1 night at Dreamy California Coast Airstreams
Camping in Mark’s Airstream was a great experience. The Airstream is nestled on a secluded section of land that is along the California coast with breathtaking views. The amenities provided were great and we would stay here again.

2 nights at Splitrock Farm and Retreat
The Cloudcrest site and vintage airstream stay was fabulous. The site has lovely views and lots of space. The trailer itself had everything we needed. My 6'2" partner had no trouble sleeping in the full size bed so that was great. The front porch was such a relaxing spot to hang out with a book and a glass of wine. The only real issue we had was ants. It was got and those guys were looking for water. VERY common! The camp host placed an ant trap in a cabinet and that eventually helped, but seeing dead ants one the shelf was not fun. We just closed the cabinet door and kept going. We were fine with it as we prefer that over spraying chemicals in the air. I have stayed at Splitrock 3 or 4 times in the past and just love it. GREAT outdoor(ish) showers, bathrooms and lots of water. There are goats roaming the property and a fabulous viewing deck above the clouds. Nice hiking trails and GLORIOUS sunrises and sunsets!!

Kelley is a great host. Communication was good. She was available if needed but allowed us our privacy. Pearl is a small Airstream that accommodated 2 adults and dog perfectly. The unit was clean and had everything we needed. The outdoor shower was a few steps away. The setup was clean and water was warm. The forested surrounding are beautiful.

Weekend Trip to Bright Bear Camp in Tahoe NF
We visited Kelley's hipcamp as an 18 person group for 3 days/2 nights and had an incredible time! To get the main downside out of the way--there were a lot of mosquitos, which came out in the morning and at mid-afternoon. That said, Kelley has a beautiful property, clean and well appointed facilities for her guests to use, and is an all around incredible camping host. She was flexible, helpful, friendly and kind. We would recommend her hipcamp to anyone looking to camp in the Tahoe NF area!

Weekend Trip to Splitrock Farm and Retreat
Luna at Cloudcrest was the perfect place for our puppy's first camping adventure.
The property is peaceful, beautiful, and feels worlds away from the noise of everyday life. The views across the rolling Fallbrook hills are stunning, but the animals are what truly make this place unforgettable.
The goats completely stole our hearts. There were nearly forty of them, each with their own personality. Some were curious, some mischievous, and all of them were entertaining. We spent far more time than expected simply watching them interact and enjoying their company.
Our puppy was absolutely fascinated. Watching her discover camping while also trying to understand an entire hillside full of goats was worth the trip all by itself.
There was also a beautiful farm dog who seemed to quietly supervise the property and added even more charm to the experience.
As evening settled in, the farm became incredibly peaceful. The hills glowed gold, the animals settled down, and the stars slowly filled the sky. Sitting outside under the stars with our puppy beside us was one of those simple moments we'll remember for a long time.
We came for a weekend away and left with wonderful memories. We would absolutely recommend Luna at Cloudcrest and look forward to visiting our goat friends again.

Weekend Trip to Basecamp Palomar
This is my 3rd time back and the property and the airstream seems to get better every time. The pool is now open. It’s super clean with plenty of seating. The nights are just as quiet and even with someone next door it feels pretty private. We will see you next time!!!
