We are a small privately owned campground ( on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, canvas tents on platforms, teepees and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. We are tent camping only with only one site that allows a small travel trailer or van. (#14) . We are dog friendly and allow dogs in all but 5 glamping sites. We do enforce camp rules especially our quiet time between 10 PM and 7 AM
We’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe. We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together with multiple families. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day.
We have a lodge that is stocked with games and a ping pong table. The lodge has a microwave, Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups).We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We have electricity at the at the lodge for small appliances and charging phones. We have a compressor on site to blow up your air mattresses or float toys. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. We offer nice flushing toilets and hot showers! We have many extra amenities including a compressor to use for your air mattresses,
For outdoor activities we have basketball, volleyball, pickleball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing set . We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores (bring the fixings).
The creek starts out in spring looking like a rushing river featuring many fishing and swimming holes. As the summer progresses the water level falls but is still great for water play and fishing.
We have propane BBQs (we provide the propane for BBQs) located throughout the property. We also have a propane grill and charcoal BBQ located in the common area for all to use. There is a dutch oven pit also in the fire bowl area.
We do not allow wood fires at the individual sites but each site has a propane firepit for ambiance (not cooking) that requires you to purchase a 20 lb. propane cannister on site (add in extras) or pay cash on site.
No internet service. There is limited internet only available for purchases at the setore.
We require a 3 night minimum for the major holidays - Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. We do exclusive events so you may need to explore multiple weekends to find the right reservation.
We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historical towns with great eating establishments. Tahoe is less than an hour away and there a many hiking trails within 20-30 minutes.
We have a limited number of items to rent i.e, tents, cots, camp stoves, etc. We rent a battery pack for those that use a cpap. We also have a small store on site for those items you forgot and a good selection of ice cream and ice. We take venmo or cash.

All tents include a mini fridge and a stove, ideal for light cooking, intimate fireside storytelling, and warmth during cool days.
We suggest you bring easy-to-prep food, drinks, warm clothes, hiking shoes, and a beanie, as it can get chilly without notice. Your designated parking space is a 6-minute walk from the campsite (downhill on arrival, then back uphill (steep) in the forest), so we recommend traveling light.
Our campsite is nestled within the same property as our charming little farm.
Our goats roam the land all day and may visit you for pets and nuzzles. They are gentle, but please do not feed or let them inside the tent.
Recharge from the day with a hot shower. Grab your fresh towels from your tent and go to your outdoor allocated bathhouses, where you’ll find an indoor shower and well-appointed restrooms. They are nicely lit and stocked with bath products.
A sink area is available for dish clean-up, a bbq/picnic area, fire pit & cedar wood hot tub (to be booked separately).
KM is famous for its hiking and biking trails nestled amongst the redwoods. The closest is a 15-minute walk from our campsite, and others are within a 15-minute car ride.

In July, you can enjoy outdoor activities like hiking in Henry Cowell Redwoods, walking along West Cliff Drive, and visiting Natural Bridges State Beach. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is open year-round, offering a chance to experience it with fewer crowds and more deals. You can also visit local attractions like the Mystery Spot, the Santa Cruz Wharf, and the Seymour Marine Discovery Center.
Check Levi's Stadium for all events you might have intertest in such as concerts, sporting events, etc.

Prospector Ranch is an 1800s style ranch located right next door to the acre used for Hipcamping.
The ranch is made up of their home and is also a venue for filming, photo shoots and small events. When not being used, camping guest are welcome to enjoy the area down around the authentic saloon, use the picnic area under large Oak trees and hike the property. We purchased the ranch 8 years ago and love being outside of the city in the mountains. Stargazing is a must when staying there!
The campsite is NEXT DOOR to Prospector Ranch, which is our 1800s-style ranch tucked away in the Santa Monica mountains, close to beaches, vineyards, amazing hiking, biking to the beach and the city! The wide open empty lot looks out at the beautiful mountains. Enjoy stunning sun sets and Picnic under the grand Oak Trees at the ranch or maybe come by the saloon next door for a cold beverage if we are around. :-). We are open for the 2026 Camping Season. All campsites include a fire ring and picnic table. Potable water is available in a central location (guests must supply their own containers) and flushing toilets and heated showers are available at our main bathhouse. Please prepare for a camping in nature experience which includes bugs, pests, rustic restrooms, heated showers, gorgeous, minimally managed watersheds and the most beautiful starry skies! River Ranch Campground has been proudly hosting families since the 1960's.
At River Ranch Campgrounds, Tuolumne, CA we offer a range of activities to make your stay enjoyable. Take a hike on one of the many trails winding through the Stanislaus National Forest at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains, or cast a line in the North Fork of the Tuolumne River or Basin Creek for some great native fishing. After a long day of exploration, come back to the campgrounds and relax by the firepit or enjoy a picnic in one of our many picnic areas. Activities in the campground include horseshoes, sand volleyball, sandbox for the kiddos and frisbee golf for all. Important notes:
We are off-grid. There is no electricity in the campground with exception of a small solar powered system to operate our entry gate, guest Wi-Fi and intercom. Outlets are not available for guest use.
Our campground is home to wildlife. You can minimize unwanted encounters by properly storing food and garbage.
We have one central bathhouse with 3 flushing toilets. Sites vary in distance from a short walk to a short drive. The bathhouse has 4 shower stalls in the rear of the building. The bathhouse is closed from 10pm to 8am. The bathhouse does not have electricity or interior lighting.
Our Hacienda section ("H" Sites) has vault toilets. Portables are located throughout the campground for your convenience.
There is minimal privacy from other campers due to the placement of the sites and the way our trees and vegetation is trimmed for fire resistance.

Nestled among the oaks with stunning canyon views, our 14x16 foot canvas tent sits on a 28 foot redwood deck. The porch, cantilevered into the trees is a fantastic place to enjoy your morning yoga or coffee ritual, read a book, or relax with a glass of rosé.

We loved camping on Shelly's glamping tent. Hey property was private open and spacious. She left info about the different types of wildlife and plants which we appreciated as we brought our cars as they are quite adventurous. It did get cold at night but there were plenty of blankets.

Weekend Trip to Roughlands
Nice spot with a very comfortable bed. Hot tub was lovely and the bathroom was also great and accessible. The gate was a little confusing as the code was for the padlock, and not the electric keypad but once we were in everything was easy peasy. Thank you!

2 nights at Roughlands
Such a dreaaammm. It was exactly the little getaway I so desperately needed from the bay. My only regret is not figuring out how to stay one more night. Although, I do believe it was such a dream (besides the gorgeous amenities) was the fact that no one else was staying in the yurts. I didn’t realize the lack of privacy before getting there so I want to post this so it’s a bit more clear. From the deck of the poppy yurt, you can clearly see nearly half the tub. The other yurt has even more clear of a view. That being said, I had it all nearly to myself and I watched the full moon rise both nights from that beautiful tub. The bedding is also such an incredible treat. Feels so plush and luxurious.

Weekend Trip to Santa Cruz Mountain Camping
Peaceful, relaxing, beautiful nature getaway. I really loved waking up to the birds singing and deer nearby. You can drive up pretty close to your tent. My guest just had ACL surgery so this was important for us. Bathroom is also a very close. It was cold at night in June but the blankets provided are soooooo warm I was totally fine I actually kicked some off in my sleep. Easy to find and well marked. The place was clean and host was great. Stopped here for a night on our trek up to Monterey for the weekend. Will be back!

Weekend Trip to Sacred Owl Land
My wife and I wanted a peaceful weekend getaway, and this place blew our expectations away. Situated on a hilltop in a redwood forest, it offers stunning views of Watsonville and Monterey Bay.
The Stay & Amenities
We stayed in the Safari Camp, which was meticulously designed for comfort by our host, Vaza. The tent was so spacious it felt like a cozy cabin! For a remote location, the amenities were a rare luxury:
Relaxing hot tub & personal hot shower
Clean compost toilets
Beautiful yoga studio & viewing deck (perfect for unwinding on a clear day)
Outstanding Hospitality
Even though we arrived late, Vaza sent check-in instructions well in advance. She and her husband were incredibly helpful and responded to messages instantly—they are absolute gems. It has such a wonderful, chill vibe, and we can't wait to visit again. Thank you, Vaza!
💡 Quick Tips for Future Guests:
1. Bring a wagon/cart: The parking area is about 200–250 yards away, so a cart is a lifesaver for luggage.
2. Pack bedding: Don't forget your own sheets and a comforter or sleeping bags.
3. Extra gear: A portable picnic table is great to have on hand.

This was a lovely, restorative escape from the city! We loved every part of our stay. The tent was clean, comfortable, and easy to access. The site was so serene, well maintained, and quiet. The site is still close to a store, wineries, hikes etc so there is plenty to do around. Shelly was very considerate to leave extra blankets and trash bins which was very thoughtful. I got the best sleep I’ve had in a while and woke up to turkeys, deer, and all sorts of birds. I will be back! Thank you, Shelly, for your hospitality. 😊

Weekend Trip to Roughlands
Use Google maps to get there! Poppy is the better of the two platforms if you want less sun in the mornings. The bath house was very upscale and nice. The hot tub had dark water (probably due to the iron rich soils of the area) and took about 1.5-2hrs to heat from 84F to 104F. Nice forest and field views. Wildflowers and wildlife in the area including bunnies, birds, foxes, and squirrels.

Weekend Trip to Camp Carmel Valley - Glamping
Beautiful area in a secluded part of Carmel Valley, but still close enough to access Carmel by the Sea for dinner/night out. The amenities were perfect for our small group and everything was well kept. The shower was not only aesthetic, but so refreshing after boondocking it for a few days before our stay. The bed was comfortable, and the firepit was exactly what we needed! I felt very safe in the area, as there was a coded gate leading us onto the property. Most reviews say 4WD needed, but we were able to get by with our AWD subaru forester, and there was another smaller toyota sedan who made it through alright as well. Some small bumps and narrow turns, but nothing crazy! I would definitely stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Sacred Owl Land
A beautiful camping retreat tucked away among the redwoods, far from the noise and stress of daily life. It really felt like a little slice of nirvana. The hosts were warm and welcoming and made us feel instantly at home.
The setup was simple but thoughtfully done. The heated outdoor shower worked well, and the composting toilet was perfectly clean and odor-free. A campfire was already set up for us, so all we had to do was light it, and the candles and solar lanterns around the campsite made the evening feel especially magical.
I missed the note that guests should bring their own pillows, sleeping bags, and water, but the hosts graciously helped us out, which we really appreciated. I also joined the onsite morning yoga class, and it was fantastic.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back soon!
