Our property is an eight minute walk to the beach! We are pet friendly! Welcome to southern Santa Cruz County, home of some of the longest and most beautiful beaches in central California. Enjoy the peaceful view of 300 acres of strawberry fields across the valley.
We are located in La Selva Beach, an eight-minute walk to Manresa State Beach. We are a small, working farm with vegetable and flower gardens, chickens and bees. There are many excellent places nearby to hike, walk, surf, swim, tide pool, kayak or just sit and enjoy the view.
Our campsites include water and electric hookups. We welcome tents, RV’s, trailers etc. We have plenty of room for a second vehicle. We do offer a port-a potty and sinks, but we do not shower facilities. Cell service is very good.
Our property is a great base camp for your Santa Cruz and Monterey County adventures! We are 15 minutes from Capitola Village, 30 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz. Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur are about 45 minutes anway and make for great day trips.
SFO is 90 minutes away depending on traffic. We regularly host international travelers and we are happy to help you get acquainted with your rig as you set out on your journey.
We love to host guests and will happily provide you with information about things to do and see in on the central coast. We may loan our State Parks pass so that you can venture out to Point Lobos, Wilder Ranch, Sunset State Beach, Natural Bridges and more.
There is a Dump station 5 minutes down the road at the KOA (for a fee).

shelving, 2 cots with bedding, plus a memory foam camping mattress! The BYOT site's measurement is 10' x 10' . Both sites have shaded areas, and picnic tables. A shower and a compost toilet are available.
Enjoy a designated smoking/vaping spot, multiple benches, and swings, a "grounding" spot, birding, water fountains and art.
A no noise policy by the county occurs at 9 pm. Due to a high risk fire zone, no open fires. Due to the proximity of the tents right next to Vega Rd, sounds from vehicles can be heard. We are situated in a rural neighborhood setting, with sounds of sheep, goats, chickens, wild turkeys, dogs and many birds nestled between both counties. For enhanced protection we ask that a waiver be signed. Security cameras are on site. While respecting your privacy, we can be seen improving the property. The terrain is hilly and staying on paths limits poison oak exposure.
Vega Vortex has been called a Park and Machu Picchu due to the amphitheater landscaping of terracing. Practicing permaculture, a diversity of pollinating plants/ flowers, organic garden and art features exist. Minutes away from National Parks, the Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk, Roaring Camp Train, Monterey Bay Aquarium, National Steinbeck Center, Moss Landing, Elkhorn Slough/Canoe/Kayak, Estuaries (bird watching), golfing and multiple beaches.

It is very dark at night and the view of the stars, moon, and planets is amazing. There is poison oak on the property so please be aware. We will show you what it looks like, so you can easily avoid it.

This is great option for those who like to bring all their own gear to camp, and don’t need or want all the extras. Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds.
There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing.
We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you.
You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. There are clean composting toilets, hot showers, a propane fire pit, heaters for the cold, a hammock bungalow, a meditation pagoda, a deck overlooking a creek, and disc golf baskets. With a fair balance of sunlight and shade, we have a garden, outdoor play equipment, and lots of open space to spread out and relax. Free wifi is available. We run a nonprofit outdoor education camp for underprivileged youth, so your stay supports our work to get youth outdoors.
Winter lodging....
It can get seasonably cold in the Santa Cruz Mountains during the winter. If visiting in the winter, rest assured we have everything covered to enjoy your stay. We have propane heaters in all main spaces for your comfort. If the power goes out, we have a standby generator that will power up camp provided we are home to turn it on. We have a woodstoves in the Owl's Nest and Eagle's Nest. We provide a fire starter log for each woodstove for each night of your stay, and guests are responsible for bringing firewood to keep the woodstoves going for continued warmth throughout each evening.

We are located in La Selva Beach, an eight-minute walk to Manresa State Beach. We are a small, working farm with vegetable and flower gardens, chickens and bees. There are many excellent places nearby to hike, walk, surf, swim, tide pool, kayak or just sit and enjoy the view.
Our campsites include water and electric hookups. We welcome tents, RV’s, trailers etc. We have plenty of room for a second vehicle. We do offer a port-a potty and sinks, but we do not shower facilities. Cell service is very good.
Our property is a great base camp for your Santa Cruz and Monterey County adventures! We are 15 minutes from Capitola Village, 30 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz. Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur are about 45 minutes anway and make for great day trips.
SFO is 90 minutes away depending on traffic. We regularly host international travelers and we are happy to help you get acquainted with your rig as you set out on your journey.
We love to host guests and will happily provide you with information about things to do and see in on the central coast. We may loan our State Parks pass so that you can venture out to Point Lobos, Wilder Ranch, Sunset State Beach, Natural Bridges and more.
There is a Dump station 5 minutes down the road at the KOA (for a fee).

Enjoy a designated smoking/vaping spot, multiple benches, and swings, a "grounding" spot, birding, water fountains and art.
A no noise policy by the county occurs at 9 pm. Due to a high risk fire zone, no open fires. Due to the proximity of the tents right next to Vega Rd, sounds from vehicles can be heard. We are situated in a rural neighborhood setting, with sounds of sheep, goats, chickens, wild turkeys, dogs and many birds nestled between both counties. For enhanced protection we ask that a waiver be signed. Security cameras are on site. While respecting your privacy, we can be seen improving the property. The terrain is hilly and staying on paths limits poison oak exposure.
Vega Vortex has been called a Park and Machu Picchu due to the amphitheater landscaping of terracing. Practicing permaculture, a diversity of pollinating plants/ flowers, organic garden and art features exist. Minutes away from National Parks, the Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk, Roaring Camp Train, Monterey Bay Aquarium, National Steinbeck Center, Moss Landing, Elkhorn Slough/Canoe/Kayak, Estuaries (bird watching), golfing and multiple beaches.

This is great option for those who like to bring all their own gear to camp, and don’t need or want all the extras. Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds.
There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing.

You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. With a fair balance of sunlight and shade, we have a garden, outdoor play equipment, and lots of open space to spread out and relax. Free wifi is available. We run a nonprofit outdoor education camp for underprivileged youth, so your stay supports our work to get youth outdoors.
Winter lodging....
It can get seasonably cold in the Santa Cruz Mountains during the winter. If visiting in the winter, rest assured we have everything covered to enjoy your stay. We have propane heaters in all main spaces for your comfort. If the power goes out, we have a standby generator that will power up camp provided we are home to turn it on. We have a woodstoves in the Owl's Nest and Eagle's Nest. We provide a fire starter log for each woodstove for each night of your stay, and guests are responsible for bringing firewood to keep the woodstoves going for continued warmth throughout each evening.

The site is at the top of the mountain, which was amazing for the view, even on a cloudy day. The site has multiple spots to pitch your tent which is great and they include different windblock options. You're going to literally feel on top of the world.
The drive from the south using highway 152 is gorgeous. The unpaved road was an adventure, take care if there was recent rain but my 2WD mini-suv was fine with light slipping. That said, it's super easy to get to and I want to go again!

Thaddeus and Mona were so intentional with the space they made. They were great hosts, and the bell tent was super cozy and we had everything we needed. Robins place was a great first stop on our trip down the coast. Robin was so helpful and provided us with bbq tools so we could cook on the campfire. There's electric hookups and fresh water provided which was great and there's a lovely little walk to the beach too. I thought it was a perfect pitstop for anyone travelling up/down the coast. We were really happy with our stay and Robin provided us with some excellent recommendations for our trip after which we have already used and eggs!!

Such a beautiful, thoughtfully curated spot. It felt like we were far from the city but it's just outside of town. Naomi was a great host, very responsive but gave us privacy. Everything was very clean and welcoming. I especially loved cooking breakfast in the morning in the outdoor kitchen and taking a bath under the stars at night. We did the sauna one night and slept so soundly after. It could hardly have been a more perfect romantic weekend for us.

Great location, only mile from the beach! We enjoyed our stay in our travel trailer. Saturday night, all the sites were occupied and it still felt very private. Laura was very responsive and helped us out finding the place as we were arriving at night. Would recommend this hipcamp to anyone looking for a basecamp to explore the Monterrey coastline.

Awesome spot. We stuffed my truck with RTT and a Sprinter into one spot and had a great night.
Tons of room and a huge wagon of free fire wood. Ray and Robin and super chill, they have a sani-hut on the property, power cables etc, the beach down the street was awesome. If you surf you can rent a board on site. We also played horse at the b-ball hoop.

This was our first experience camping. It went perfect! The site was private, clean, and had enough space for hanging out and tent setup. Everything about the space was well thought out. There was even an outlet, plug in string lights, a clean outhouse, a trash, and space for dishwashing with soap and clean water. Bring lanterns, a flashlight, plenty of bug spray, and binoculars if you want to enjoy the view! There’s also a grocery store down the road 15-20 minutes away which is great if you need to grab anything last minute. Matt was a great host and we loved the space.

Nancy is top notch. Super friendly and responsive. The ranch is a bit on the worn out side. The hot water tank wasn't working when we were there, and the fridge could use a deep cleaning. However, our dogs had the time of their lives. The horse (Hannah) and donkey (Daisy) are amazing. I absolutely loved the blooming jasmine growing over the building. We had a very relaxing weekend and plan to return.

Thaddeus and Mona are the kindest hosts that I have experienced. The tent site met all my needs with a beautiful terrace, spacious table, and bathroom with showers close by. It’s Hipcamp, including miniature ponies and goats on the other side of the road. It’s in the heart of a major agricultural setting, surrounded by wilderness, so expect the occasional sound of roosters and coyotes, but it’s all part of the Hipcamp experience. I slept well. I will be back!

The camp site is truly glorious--very pretty. The outhouses were lovely, and many fun features (nice chairs, and firewood, and TIKI torches! and Citronella candles! All very lovely--but mostly--camping under the trees was really lovely.

This campsite (#1) was a beaut! The view of the valley was stunning and made for such an eventful trip. There was ample space for a large car and a large tent, plenty of room that included a picnic table and trash can. The loo was also a short walk away. The drive here was also an adventure. Absolutely recommend this hidden gem.

I had a great experience at this place and truly appreciated the kindness and support we received. From the moment we arrived, he went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of.
He generously gave us fresh eggs and even provided towels, asking only that we pass on the kindness by donating to charity — a gesture that really stood out and reflects his character.
We also ran into a few issues with our RV, and he didn’t hesitate to step in and help us resolve everything. He made sure we were okay and took the time to assist us with genuine care and patience.
The place itself was incredibly peaceful and calm — exactly what we needed. We truly enjoyed our time there and felt completely relaxed throughout our stay.
Overall, an incredibly kind and helpful person. I would highly recommend this place to anyone — it’s rare to come across such genuine hospitality.
