The driveway terminates in a cul de sac; an area large enough for any vehicle to turn around. A small trailer (less than 20') is fine if you're talented getting it turned around or can unhitch and turned around by hand. You'd need a 4 wheel drive to get it out of the steepish driveway. There is a large flat area for parking/tents plus a couple remote, dirt sites for tents. Non digging, well mannered dogs are allowed (2 maximum) provided their responsible owners clean up after them. A new nifty outhouse has a great view! Rose Valley Road follows the Coweeman River, has little traffic, and may serve as a nice hike/bike up or down stream. This is a glamping opportunity. Inside the hobbit house there is a full bed for two, with a quality mattress and an adjustable bed frame that has a motor to lift body to sit up or you can raise legs. There is power inside and a small microwave for cooking. 30 feet away is a sink for cleaning and good drinking water. There is a bathroom area a short way down the hill with a flushing toilet and heated shower. Outdoors includes a fire pit, a few small springs and ponds and lots of trails to explore. Your shelter and mattress will be top notch, however this is still a campground and you need to be prepared as a camper. Currently we do not have a refrigerator, bring your own cooler. No silverware, or plates are provided. You can heat things in the microwave or cook over the fire. Bring whatever utensils are needed. Within a couple miles of our location is Lewis River Golf Course, as well as popular water spotd of Merwin Lake Park, and floating the Lewis River. We have a scavenger hunt set up on the trails of our property if you want the challenge of finding our targets as you walk the trails.

This is a 10 acre camp of wooded hills. This campsite currently has an rv pad for rent and a featured camp site with a hobbit house. Soon to be more tent sites. There is a firewood stand on site and bundles are only $5! The hobbit house is built back into a hillside and is underground, round doors, and arched ceiling stays true to hobbit architecture. This is a glamping opportunity. Inside the hobbit house there is a full bed for two, with a quality mattress and an adjustable bed frame that has a motor to lift body to sit up or you can raise legs. There is power inside and a small microwave for cooking. 30 feet away is a sink for cleaning and good drinking water. There is a bathroom area a short way down the hill with a flushing toilet and heated shower. Outdoors includes a fire pit, a few small springs and ponds and lots of trails to explore. Your shelter and mattress will be top notch, however this is still a campground and you need to be prepared as a camper. Currently we do not have a refrigerator, bring your own cooler. No silverware, or plates are provided. You can heat things in the microwave or cook over the fire. Bring whatever utensils are needed. Within a couple miles of our location is Lewis River Golf Course, as well as popular water spotd of Merwin Lake Park, and floating the Lewis River. We have a scavenger hunt set up on the trails of our property if you want the challenge of finding our targets as you walk the trails.

This is a gorgeous park-like RV campground situated between the trees of the arboretum. No tents, please. Also we have NO public restrooms. Beautiful view of the mountains and forests here in western Washington. We are close to Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier and several lakes. There are walking trails all around the site. The 12 acre campground is located on a 136 acre property that is an active Christmas tree farm. Trails continue throughout the tree farm. Many trails have a view of the Tilton River, which can be reached via a challenging 3/4 mile trail. Sites are on 10 acres planted with many different species of trees that are about 30 years old. Giant Redwoods, Cedars, and Maples are just a few of the varieties present. Part of the farm is still a working Christmas tree farm. The trails are wide and grassy. The old logging road that we use as a trail to the river has an elevation change of about 500 feet, the trail can be quite challenging. Bear Creek empties into the Tilton river at the end of the trail. There is an ART GALLERY where you can learn to pound flowers, see the host's artwork and get a cup of coffee! This is upstairs above the shop, right on the property. Tilton River Studio Gallery. Three sites have electrical hookups. Every site has a water spigot (use a pressure regulator if you want to hook up). No restrooms or sewer hookups. Garbage disposal site available Memorial Day to Labor Day. If you want to sit in relative quiet with a lovely view, this is a recommended spot. Owner’s communication was outstanding. NOTE: If you have dogs, there isn’t much room to roam due to blackberry bushes and neighboring property owner. NOTE: The neighboring property owner was quiet and kept their dogs fenced, but you’ll need to keep a close eye on your own dogs to ensure that they respect the property boundary. .

I couldn’t say enough nice things about this place - It was absolutely lovely with the trickling little river lulling us to sleep at night, the birds singing a sweet melody to wake us in the morning, the massive fire pit that you could fit a whole family around, and the pavilion with multiple tables and a cute little propane heater to stay warm just incase there is a rainy day. This was all tucked away in a beautiful forest which made it feel very secluded. We had such an amazing time!

We absolutely love this spot! Very private and great views. It poured rain and was very windy this weekend, but we hunkered down, watched movies and read- it was just what we needed! The only downside was getting into the spot. The directions are not clear that you need to back down into the spot- so when you get to the “driveway” you need to back down and it is a little steep. Unfortunately, even though I had read other reviews, we didn’t realize this point & ended up needing to back up onto the main road in 4wd (and luckily we have an F-350- our previous truck would not have been able to handle this even with 4wd). Make sure you assess before you head to the spot.

Just what I needed! As a solo female camping with only my soulpup, this slice of heaven is spectacular! I arrived on a day that the sky opened up and it poured for hours. I even got stopped by a road closure for a downed tree 20 minutes up the road on arrival. Chris was in constant communication when I let her know I’d be delayed for checking in. She and Jack showed up (after I had gotten there and had time to regroup a bit) with an offer for the propane fire pit under the shelter and helped me get it going. We car camped and I accidentally drained my battery overnight. Jack was so nice to come jump it for me the next morning. All of this was above and beyond as hosts if you ask me. As far as the property, it’s such a nice mix of lawn space and wild space. Amenities, yet wilderness. The covered shelter offers a space to relax, even in the rain. The tent deck was the perfect spot for meditation and taking in scenery that had me constantly in awe. And the sound of the flowing creek was so calming. To address some points I noticed in previous reviews,…the portapotty was spotless when I was there. And there was zero scent or odor, even with the heavy rains and wind. Yes, there is a neighborhood pup who randomly strolls through. I have a selectively reactive pup and he didn’t so much as bark at her. I legit think this old girl gives off some kind of calming aura about her! Not even space to rave as much as this place deserves! Perfection!

This was the second time we stayed at Chris’ HipCamp and both times we camped under Er the shelter knowing the rain was coming. The portable toilet and campsite were very clean. The firewood was delivered and under the shelter and started in the fire right away. You can tell the site is loved and the special touch was the hosts left a vase with a bouquet of fresh flowers on one of the picnic tables. After the fire was put out we could hear the deluge of rain start but we stayed warm and dry.

The Hobbit House was such a beautiful stay, nestled in the side of a hill in a very quiet area. The surroundings were fun to see on the designed scavenger hunt. The neighbour dog is well-trained and left us alone for our stay (we have a reactive dog). The electric fireplace kept us very warm throughout the night. I felt the outhouse was really clean though we didn’t use the shower. The sink right near the Hobbit House was also very convenient!

This campsite is right at the end of the paved county road with only 5 neighbors past it. Any vehicle can access it. There is parking for an RV and 2 vehicles. Located about 10-15 minutes from Mayfield Lake. 20 minutes from Mossyrock. There are several nearby logging roads for exploring. This site is very quiet except for a few cars that drive by each day. There is a picnic table and fire pit with grill (except during burn bans, usually July-September). There is also some firewood available for use. Site has full hookups: 50 amp (240v) electrical service (adapter available to 30 amp, 120v), sewer, and water (not tested for drinking).

Our property was part of a logging camp way back when before the mountain erupted on May 18th 1980. After the eruption the land raised 5 feet or so higher then it was previously. We found the property and loved the closeness of the river and purchased the land from Weyerhaeuser 10 years ago and had have been enjoying it ever since.

This campsite is on the Coweeman River, 16 miles east of Interstate 5, on Rose Valley Rd, Kelso, WA. A pool deep/large enough for swimming makes it a wonderful summer retreat. Caution: wet rocks are as slick as ice! There is only one site on this property so your party will have it to yourselves. A fire pit, with on site firewood available for purchase, provides warmth after your dip in the cool water. A picnic table is under a 13' X 13' pop up awning. The driveway terminates in a cul de sac; an area large enough for any vehicle to turn around. A small trailer (less than 20') is fine if you're talented getting it turned around or can unhitch and turned around by hand. You'd need a 4 wheel drive to get it out of the steepish driveway. There is a large flat area for parking/tents plus a couple remote, dirt sites for tents. Non digging, well mannered dogs are allowed (2 maximum) provided their responsible owners clean up after them. A new nifty outhouse has a great view! Rose Valley Road follows the Coweeman River, has little traffic, and may serve as a nice hike/bike up or down stream. The rules are listed below under During Your Trip by clicking on 'Host Rules'. By reserving this site the Booker, and all guests, agrees to abide by these rules. Cell coverage is nonexistent/weak, depending on carrier. Please plan accordingly and enjoy your time away from digital distractions.

About

The 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens blasted off the conical summit of this Cascade volcano, leaving behind a two-mile-wide crater and a transformed landscape. At Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, visitors can peer into Mount St. Helens’ still active crater from the Johnston Ridge Observatory; hike across the eruption-scarred surrounds; spelunk through a lava tube at the Ape Caves; or attempt a permitted summit of Mount St. Helens’ rim via Monitor Ridge. Although the monument has no campgrounds, it is part of the larger Gifford Pinchot National Forest, which features a variety of camping, hiking, biking, fishing, and boating opportunities. Excellent camping can be found at Gifford Pinchot’s Iron Creek Campground and Kalama Horse Camp, as well as at nearby Seaquest State Park. When to go

Most visitors come to the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument between mid-May and October. This is when the seasonal John Ridge Observatory and most nearby campsites are open. Spring visitors may enjoy wildflower blooms, while even summer campers can expect low temperatures in the 50s. Rain gear is advised year-round, though winter visitors should prepare for the possibility of driving and hiking on snow and ice.

Know before you go

  • The Johnston Ridge Observatory features a museum covering the volcano’s geology, viewpoints, and trailheads into the blast zone. 
  • The Ape Cave on the south side of Mount St. Helens offers 2.5 miles of subterranean hiking, scrambling, and climbing through a lava tube. Reservations are required—and be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp.
  • Experienced climbers can attempt to reach the 8,365-foot summit of Mount St. Helens’ crater rim via the Monitor Ridge Route. Permits are required to go above 4,800 feet, and depending on conditions, snowshoes and crampons may be necessary.

Great Visitors center! Going back for hiking!
I stopped at the visitor center while driving back to Seattle. I have passed it a million times and this was the first time stopping. Just 10min off the highway. Will definitely be planning a trip to do some hiking north of Mt. St. Helens now!

Bee Inspired?? Yes!!
We had a wonderful stay at Bee Inspired Gardens! We were in Site #3, which easily accommodated our large 39’ fifth-wheel with plenty of space to pull in and set up comfortably. The site included water and electric, which made our stay even more convenient. The gardens were absolutely beautiful—clearly a labor of love and care. Kay gave us a personal tour of both the gardens and the apiary, and shared her knowledge about creating pollinator habitats. It was both educational and inspiring! A picnic table was provided at the site, and we were delighted to find a vase of fresh flowers waiting for us—a thoughtful and welcoming touch. Communication with Kay was excellent from start to finish. Highly recommend Bee Inspired Gardens for anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic, and educational stop!

Loved our visit to MSH! The views all along the drive were amazing. We played in Coldwater Lake and visited the Science Center-breathtaking views. We enjoyed 2 hikes. Loved the vegetation. Wish we had more time and better understood the different entry points and trails to know how to best utilize our time.

Johnstone Ridge visitor center at the end of the road was still closed, but Coldwater Lake visitor center just reopened, and offered a great view of the mountain.

Although the center was closed for renovations, the walking path and bathrooms were open for use. We ventured up the mountain to the many viewpoints and forestry learning center and ended at Coldwater Lake due to road closure. It was a great trip and highly recommended.
