Weekend Trip to Zen Garden Sanctuary Spa

These guys put the hip in #hipcamp. Jim was a wonderful and engaging host. We stayed in the caboose and the highlights were hanging out with the host and his friends, the sauna, and hot tub. If you are bringing kids maybe check with the host or Eric on the vibe before coming. It is a beautiful property and you can tell Jim has put a lot of thought, effort, and himself in the place. There is now diverse plant life on-site which attracts diverse wildlife including insects, birds and reptile. Your stay here helps us to pay the bills and keep making this small patch of earth better. The property is on a sunny bench not far from the ocean and usually above the fog line. Our location gets ample sunshine most days and is surrounded on 3 sides by a forest of trees. The property is fenced and access is by gate. There are two seperate campsites which are separated by our central garden and bamboo plantings. There is very little street traffic before 9 AM and after 4 PM Mon-Sat. Sundays are quiet. Both sites can use the portable toilet and outdoor shower. We keep it clean and odor free for a sanitary camping experience. Bring your bikes, boards and outdoor gear! Many adventures to be had here on the central coast. Your hosts are avid surfers and cyclists and can help direct you to the best spots to match your skill level. The property is close to town as well as bike loops, gravel roads and trails. We're also close to the beach. Within a short drive surfers of all levels can find something fun to ride nearly everyday of summer and fall. The 18 hole golf course is just down the street from the property and the town of Waldport is 2 miles away. Yachats is a short 12 minute drive to the south where you can find amazing restaurants where they serve fresh roasted coffee along with a large menu of drinks and treats at places such as The Green Salmon Cafe. White sand beaches are located just down the hill from us where you can walk all the way from the mouth of the Alsea river to the mouth of the Yachats river. Forested and easily accessible walking trails are also nearby. South of the property is Cape Perpetua - a natural wonderland with whales, tide pools, blowholes and a 26 mile trail system. We have a one acre lot in the city. Our 22' Tipi with access to a full bathroom (shower, sink, toilet). You may also camp in your own tent or vehicle. Get a fire going under our 20' x 30' canvas shelter and cook dinner or work on crafts (we use this space to teach bushcraft and survival skills classes). Pick plums, cherries, pears, apples and wild blackberries when in season. It's a 1 minute walk to access the best coffee shop and cafe in town. Our camp feels a little like you are in the country while being within walking distance of large city parks (Avery Park and Willamette Park), swimming holes, grocery stores and restaurants. As an urban site, you will hear street traffic on Hwy 99, and there is urban light from both a street light and the storage units on the North border of the property. The Tipi itself offers some barrier to these lights, however, if you want to be in a really dark location and see all the stars, this is probably not the site for you. We are close to Oregon State University campus (15 min bike ride, 30 min walk) and easy access to I5 (about 15 min drive). We host you as a family of 3 including our young daughter who might try to get you to pick blackberries with her.

We'll open up in again in April but, we're taking reservations for the 2026 season... Our one designated site, closest to the river bank we call the Riverside Site. It can be reserved for up to 4 people. It can only accommodate smaller tents, campers, pop up trailers, small pod-type trailers and larger rigs up to 15'. has a rustic firepit and your own deck for viewing the river. For groups of 5 or more or people or camping with large 10 person tents or trailers over 20', there will be an additional fee and you will need to set up camp in our Riverwood Site, about 150' from the riverbank. You will still have full access to the deck and firepit in the other site but, larger rigs cannot maneuver in the site without tearing up the grass and leaving ruts on our property. **Please note**When you make the reservation you will add an "Extra", ADDITIONAL CAMPSITE. We have indoor bathroom facilities for our guests in a separate apartment we have downstairs of our house. There is a small living and dining area, kitchenette with barista bar, microwave and small fridge. It is about 150' walk and is visible from the campsites but, still feels private. We also offer our little Bunkie, the Glass House for an extra fee. The Bunkie sleeps two comfortably. It has a nice mattress (Please bring your own sleeping bags), a comfy bench, a coat rack, remote control lights and a nice electric heater. There are curtains all around for privacy. You'll use the bathroom facilities in the apartment. All of our guests have full access to our personal dock to get down to the water. Feel free to fish off the dock, swim, Kayak, SUP or just enjoy the evening on the dock. Our property is about a 10 minute drive to the Ocean/Hwy 101, just south of Lincoln City. Beyond the adventuring that can be done on the property, Baker Beach state park is less than a half a mile away and there is a plethora of trails, parks, and lakes within 10 miles. We do have full time neighbors just to the North, so we ask that you be respectful and cautious with regard to dogs/noise. Hwy 101 can be very dangerous for unsuspecting pets. There are several roadside campfire stations(directly across 101 from camp) offering small bundles for $5-6/night. **Be advised that we are slowly working on the property to eventually create more camping space. About

On a sandy stretch of Oregon's Central Coast, this park offers plenty of activities, with a playground, horseshoe pits, a nine-hole disc golf course, and hiking trails galore. The massive South Beach Campground has hundreds of campsites, plus 27 yurts, flush toilets, hot showers, and an RV dump station. There's also a Hospitality Center where campers can get basic supplies or borrow discs or horse shoes, plus three reservable tent camps for groups. Best of all, the park is right by the beach, though if you do want to run into town, bustling Newport—home of the Oregon Coast Aquarium—is only minutes away.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Campsites and yurts can be booked as early as six months in advance and up to a day in advance on the Oregon State Parks website.
Same-day reservations are available on a walk-in basis. Your best bet is to arrive early and be prepared to wait.
Campsites in loops A-D are available to reserve year-round, while sites E-I close from November until May. Loops E and F may reopen on a first-come, first-served basis if there's demand.
If planning to visit between November 1 and May 1, you should be able to snag a walk-in site pretty easily if you find you’re unable to reserve online.

The park is located in the southern outskirts of Newport, one of the larger Oregon Coast cities. There are plenty of places to pick up supplies and groceries (or even go out to dinner) within a 10-minute drive
Campsites in loops A-G have electricity and water. Sites in loops H and I do not have hookups, and generators are not allowed.
Limited wifi is available at the Hospitality Center.
There are five accessible campsites and 24 accessible yurts at the campground, plus accessible flush toilets and trails.

South Beach Campground

This is a very large campground, with a mixture of RV/Trailer, tent, and yurt sites available, some with hookups. Large campground with a lot of families, etc. so not the quietest spot. But a great stay as it is central to trails and places to see in area. Trail from campground (multiple) lead right to the beach which is awesome. Full bathrooms and water onsite. They also have a little shop with some merchandise and snacks, ice, etc. They have bikes for rent (free i think) for guests there. They also have a free dump site available. This place books quickly so look in advance. I was able to book a spot a few nights before but not for more than a night and ended up moving around to different spots within the campground during my stay. Does h

South Beach Campground

Stopped here with a friend as we traveled up the coast. Campsite was clean, quiet and about a quarter mile from the beach. Bathrooms have showers if you need them and rangers were available for questions. Great trails for walking, biking, running, etc.. Great stop along the coast.
