Please Note: Property ownership has transferred, but the same friendly host is managing your campsite. Please read the description in its entirety. There is only one campsite on this property, insuring privacy and solitude during your stay. The setting is most private, the river lovely. This setting is wonderful for a quiet family getaway in the woods; it is not 'party' appropriate. The Coweeman River runs clean and pristine. Though only 3' to 4' deep, it provides a refreshing dip on a warm summer's day. It can be used for washing and bathing and could be filtered/treated to make it potable. A locked cabin has a large covered porch overlooking the River that is available for campers, complete with chairs and picnic table. Well mannered, non-digging dogs are welcome (maximum 2) as long as their responsible owners clean up after them. The camp has a pit toilet and we are asking guests to extend its life by only putting poop and pee in it. Please burn your TP or take it out with your trash. There is a fire ring and a tub of firewood available (and refillable) on site for $10. Payment for the woodcutter is through Venmo when you return to the electronic world. If you bring your own wood keep maximum length to 20" to keep fire/ash within ring. There is a picnic table and chairs at the fire ring. Trash cans are provided. Please remove your trash. Don't forget to bring drinking water, toilet paper, headlamp/flashlight, roasting sticks for them s'mores, water shoes and tromping shoes. The closest store for supplies is 11 miles (20ish minutes) down Rose Valley Road, a small country market with basics, and fuel. There driveway is steep but fine for 2 wheel drive vehicles (except when towing). When driving out, make sure gate is open before starting the climb out.. The driveway is steepest at the gate so please do not stop there as tire spinning will result. The rules are listed below under During Your Trip by clicking on 'Host Rules'. By reserving this site the Booker, and all guests, agrees to abide by these rules. Cell coverage is nonexistent/weak, depending on carrier. Please plan accordingly and enjoy your time away from digital distractions. Campfires allowed
Firepit. Keep fire within ring for fire safety and ash control. Boxes available for purchase at $10 per box. Gathering of firewood is not permitted, nor is defacing (hacking/carving/nailing) of standing trees. If you are bringing your own firewood the maximum length of wood that the fire ring will handle is 20".
Toilet available
Pit toilet. To extend the life of the outhouse we are asking you to only use it for human waste. Any other matter (TP, tampons, mini pads, condoms, trash, cigarette butts) can be burned or taken out with your trash.
Pets allowed
Off leash. Two dog non digging dogs maximum. Please clean up after your pet.
Bins available
Recycling bin, trash bin. Garbage cans are provided with plastic liners. Please take all your garbage and recycling away and replace the liner (in the bottom of can) for the next guest.
Picnic table present
There is a picnic table with benches by the fire ring, covered with a 10' X 10' popup awning.. There is also a picnic table on the porch without benches.
No potable water
Bring your own water, purify from river or stream, purify from tap. No potable water is available at this site but river water for washing might be available at the garden hydrant by the outhouse. Please use sparingly from the 200 gallon reservoir as I fill it only occasionally.
No showers
Bathe in river or stream. Water shoes are handy, and be careful as the rocks are very slick.

Another great trip with DogsHead's space(s)! This was our first visit to Snails Pace and it was WONDERFUL! Great location, perfect for us and our dogs. It's also plenty big enough for a bigger crew but we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The deck is great, the river is perfect, and the walking paths are excellent. Some great view points and star watching spots right in your site. Unlimited supply of firewood for purchase on site is so nice as well!

Our third time at Snails Pace for our annual start of camping season and its always lovely. The site has received small upgrades and changes over the last year and still charming as ever! Quiet, private, secure. Absolutely recommend! Don't miss out on the swimming hole the host tells you about in the instructions message before your trip! ;)

The area was beautiful and I loved how there was no signal made unplugging and just enjoying everything very easy. The sounds of the river and the birds were so calming. I had a great time.

Such a lovey and quiet place. We felt totally alone and away from everything without it being a difficult trip to get there. There were lovely views all around and it felt so well maintained and cared for. Will absolutely book another stay there in the future.

This place is magical. Plenty of space for tents. Very well maintained. Plenty of firewood. The creek running behind the site is the perfect sound to fall asleep to. Our pup had the best time exploring. I can’t wait to go back.

This is hands down one of the best camping experiences of my entire life. What a beautiful, quiet well kept place!! I had no cell service and I read a book for two days and it was GLORIOUS!!! Unbelievable how private it is! So much attention to details to make it an amazing experience. This host knows how to do it right!!! Thank you Bary for such an awesome time!!! I truly appreciate your efforts!

This year was our second visit to Barry's land, it's one of our favorite camp spots. It's beautiful, peaceful, clean, quiet and PRIVATE. Just enough creature comforts like a hand washing spigot, comfortable chairs and shade structures to make things extra nice. The campsite is far enough down from the road that we don't have to worry about our dogs wandering off and I like that the driveway is secured with a locked gate so we know that no random cars are going to come driving down. The prefect spot to get away from it all.

I LOVED tent camping at Snails pace! The spot was super private and easy to find if you follow the extra directions provided by the host. It was so quiet and peaceful, I only heard a handful of cars and no other people the whole time. The space is very well taken care of and all the extra amenities made tent camping SO much easier. The covered porch was huge and was great to have when it rained. The section of river is perfect for swimming and playing and there's a great part for floating down in a tube. I'm already planning a trip back next summer!!

We left a review last year, but this place is so great I’ll do it again! Super accessible from Portland? Check! Burbling creek full of tadpoles, crayfish, and salmon fry? Check! Bitchin’ front porch from which to admire your sweet views? Check! Surprisingly good birding? Check! - seriously, we saw Steller’s Jays, Belted Kingfishers, an American Dipper, and Rufous Hummingbirds to name a few! Also, the grounds are immaculate and the firewood is always so well-seasoned. This place is amazing.

We love Snail's Pace! This is our third summer camping on Bary's land it keeps getting better each year! Bary is attentive to the property and the amenities offered and has made improvements that are always appreciated. We love that there is wood available for a reasonable price and the canopy addition last summer allows for respite from rain or sun near the fire ring. Ultimately we come for the river and that beautiful porch view. We are far enough away from reality and have true privacy, and we don't have to sacrifice the amenities of a more developed camp site. We can't recommend this place enough!

What a sweet spot! River was epic. Very private. They keep the location very clean as well. A few notes: the driveway is steepish, a running start in a 2nd will get you up but we were towing a camper and I wouldn’t have done that without a 4wd. The rocks in the river are very slippery so bring water shoes. There are stairs leading down to the water, you aren’t camping right on the water but close to it.

Snails Pace Camp continues to be one of our favorite places to stay. We’re return campers and will definitely be back again! The site is peaceful, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully laid out. You can tell the host genuinely cares about creating a relaxing and welcoming environment. It’s the perfect place to unplug, recharge, and soak in the beauty of nature. We were lucky enough to spot two owls and hear them converse for a bit! We are so grateful this spot exists. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a calm and memorable camping experience!

We had the best time this weekend. This quickly became our new favorite campsite! The owners had a canopy over a picnic table by the fire pit which was a wonderful thing to have when the sun hit its highest point. There is also a covered porch area with another picnic table and some chairs with a stunning view of the water. We were greeted by some curious owls who flew and sat in the trees near by, a couple got really close which was amazing to get to experience. The kids had a great time searching for snails and slugs and were blown away at how big some of them were. Plenty of tent space and the pit toilet was nice to have as well. Hands down, the best campsite we have been to and we will definitely be going back.

Absolutely stunning property. The host has made this into a hip camp dream, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It’s so lovely having a campsite to yourself and listening to the sounds of the water all day and night. The river was amazing! Opportunities to float, wade, and look for cool rocks. We were able to see owls in the evening, which was the highlight of the weekend. Very private, beautiful drive in and zero cell service to really disconnect.
