Forest Echo Farm, in Mt. Holly, Vermont, offers an escape to the wilderness within a comfortable, rustic setting. Forest Echo Farm was a working farm in the 1800s. Today, our cabins provide you with a vacation spot amidst 360 acres of Vermont forest and meadows. Cold Spring is our most intimate cabin. There is a beautiful view of Mt. Ascutney from both the sleeping porch and the bathtub.

Cold Spring has one double bed on the screened-in sleeping porch, a queen bed in a separate bedroom and one twin bed (with bolsters it serves as a day bed) in the main room. Sleeps 4.

The main room offers a cozy wood stove. In the kitchen there is a sink and solar-powered refrigerator and gas stove. The indoor bathroom, accessed through the bedroom,  features a large, old fashioned tub, a sink and a toilet. There is also an outdoor shower and an outhouse. Hot and cold running water is available both inside and outside the cabin. Cold Spring is a favorite for honeymooners, couples, and small families.

Cold Spring is available for rent June through September.

Cold Spring Cabin is a short walk from Ripley Hill Cabin, but out of sight. Sometimes two families or a large group book these cabins together. Cold Spring is a short walk from the Farm Pond. It is about a 20 - 40 minute walk from our lake.

Family Owned Forest Echo Farm is owned by a group of families and individuals who are committed to the values of simple living and the preservation of our environment.

Rustic and Comfortable Cabins No power lines cross our property, no grid electricity reaches our cabins. We have no blaring screens to distract us from the sound of the wind in the leaves or to call us back to the whirl of modern life. But that does not mean we are without any of the comforts of civilization. Each cabin has hot and cold gravity-fed running water, a gas stove for cooking, gas lights and even a solar-powered refrigerator.

Forest, Meadow, Lake and Pond The luxuries at Forest Echo Farm are not inside the cabins; they are found in the light that fills the forest in late afternoon, the silence of an evening canoe on Tiny Pond and the moonlit sparkle of dewdrops at midnight. Forest Echo Farm includes 360 acres, extensive shore to a 26 acre protected pond, a swimming hole, numerous trails, and half a mountain. Canoes and kayaks provided at Tiny Pond, no outside boats allowed.

Cleaning Up We do not offer a 'housekeeping' service, but instead ask you to clean up before your departure and leave the cabin ready for the next renters. Please clean the kitchen, sweep the floor and take your trash, compost, and recyclables to our Caretakers for disposal. They are on-site to greet you upon arrival, answer your questions and see to any maintenance. They can also make recommendations for activities in the surrounding area.

Activities at Forest Echo Farm During your stay at Forest Echo, enjoy walking and hiking, bird- watching, canoeing, swimming, or just relaxing. There are several hiking and walking trails right on the property. Tiny Pond offers a secluded spot for swimming and canoeing; we even have a resident heron. Tiny Mountain and Tiny Pond are walkable from the cabins.

Activities Nearby Shopping and Dining - The nearest town, Ludlow, and the surrounding area is chock full of restaurants, antique stores, country stores, bakeries, farm stands, farmers markets, general shopping, and scenic drives. The Crowley Cheese shop and factory are nearby and worth a visit.

Hiking and Biking - The Appalachian and Long Trails are within a 45-minutedrive from Forest Echo. There are many local bike/ski shops in Ludlow with bike rentals and other activities. Our Farm trails are not for cross-country bicycling, but there are miles and miles of back roads to enjoy from the end of Tinney Road.

Cell Phone Reception/WiFi Many people can get cell phone reception on Forest Echo property. There is no WiFi on Forest Echo property. If you don't plan to fully unplug, bring a battery for recharging devices.

I loved, loved, loved this cabin! It is surrounded by trees further away from the barn, giving you complete privacy! Has everything you need to have a comfortable and welcoming stay! The bathtub and outdoor shower was amazing! All the cooking utensils needed to make the perfect meal! This place is purely magical! I can't wait to come back.

Cabin was cozy, and rustic. We had a great time exploring trails on the property, and paddling on the lake. Very quiet and relaxing, just what we were after. Sarah and Richard were great hosts, very helpful and kind.

Had such a great time at Cold Spring with my partner this weekend! The drive down from Burlington was lovely and it was great to explore a part of Vermont we'd never been to before. The cabin was so well equipped and cozy, thanks also to the fall weather we were fortunate enough to have. We hiked, made fires, hung out on the porch, and visited a local brewery down the road in Proctorsville. Would love to bring friends next time and share this very special place with them!

Sweet little cabin tucked on a huge piece of family-owned land. We had a great time! The hot water outdoor shower was a godsend at the end of each day, and the sleeping porch was heaven. We cooked dinner every night on the large stone fire hearth. One bonus amenity that I didn't know about before arriving is that there is a propane fridge, it saved us an ice trip on our cooler.

The property is beautiful for walking and we loved swimming in the pond - appreciate all they are doing at Echo Farm to take care of the land, and especially the kind caretakers. Couldn't recommend Cold Spring Cabin enough and would love to return!

Loved my time at the Cold Spring Cabin! The host Sarah was so helpful and kind and the cabin was the ideal getaway for some peace and quiet. Lots of places on the property to walk/swim with my two dogs and tons of stuff to do close by. The cabin itself was basic but cozy and has everything you could need (including a very comfy bed!) I only wish I had been able to stay longer! Will definitely be back :)

It was a dream to stay here & we will be back! We booked the cabin for a week and it was perfect. The outdoor shower was hands down our favorite part of the cabin (that and the view from the covered porch... and the fire place!). The kitchen is well stocked with every kind of tool you need to cook. The gas stove/oven, fridge, lights make this place feel super comfy- be not afraid people who are intimidated by the no electricity piece. The deco is out of a movie- everything is dreamy and the photos on here do not do it justice. We loved walking down to the lake where we paddled around. The proximity to other hikes, swims, and the cute town of Ludlow make the location perfect in case you get cabin fever. The caretaker Sarah was so nice and helpful. A+, two thumbs up, can't wait to come back.

My family of 4 (husband, 2 teen kids, pup and I) stayed at Cold Spring cabin and had a great time despite arriving on a cold, wet wknd. Everyone we met at the farm was super helpful and friendly. The cabin itself is lovely and homey and we loved spending time by the fire. When weather did permit we did some kayaking on the beautiful Tiny Pond (abt a 20 min walk from the cabin) and took a couple of short hikes, most notably to Buttermilk Falls. There's a nice little town with restaurants, shops and pubs within 20 min drive. Overall a very relaxing stay, would highly recommend.
