Spring is lambing time on the farm. Lambs will be hopping, bees will be buzzing and the garden will be getting planted. Apple blossoms will soon be out. It's lovely!
Our farm was named after the summer home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Trollhaugen Farm means Troll hill, but the only real trolls around these parts are the sheep. Our farm has sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks that you are welcome to visit.
The yurt sits in the woods next to a babbling brook. A suspension bridge connects you to the farm area. The yurt is private and has a fire pit right out back where you can grill or just sit and enjoy the fire.
The colorful yurt offers a comfy four poster bed, a small kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and composting toilet.
This is a great place for children, bikers, swimmers, hikers or anyone who just wants to get away from it all for a few days. There are many lovely hikes, one of which takes you to a pond you can swim in. You can also hike up in the woods behind the yurt.
Newfane village is one of the most picturesque villages in Vermont, with a courthouse on the green. There are two restaurants in Newfane, two coffee shops, a flea market on Sundays, and a great antique store. We are close to Brattleboro, home to one of the best coops in the northeast, as well as many fun stores and an art museum.

6 Sites are on Sunrise Farms 75 acre Conservation land with 50 mile view for Sites 1 and 2. Very quiet area with lots of wildlife and ponds and disc golf. Very quiet with great swimming and lots of hikes right from your sites.
2 of the Brookside Sites (Wishbone Left and Right) are close by (2.7 miles) where we have another 1/2 mile of river frontage and can handle bigger groups as Conservation land on Sunrise Farm only allows 4 campers per site.
Sunrise Farm Sites 1 and 2 have oodles of space and Spectacular 50 mile views of Mount Monadnock with no house lights out there in the evening except the party string lights we provide.
Site 1 (with entrance 70 yards south of the farmhouse) is best for camping in with up to 20 foot trailers or multiple tents …on the large flat spaces in the 25 acre field to choose from.
Great Well water available near farmhouse. Biodegradable soaps Only if used in the ponds. Double Olympic sized Swim Pond we stock with Rainbow Trout to keep clear.
We have been advised Not to allow imported firewood (can import Wood Beetle dangerous for our forest).
- PLEASE use the Firewood bundle tubs we provide ($12.50) - pick up at the farmhouse or pull wood from the woods (and make it safer for use).
Beautiful and plenty of wildlife nearby... as well as Outhouses are marked on Map we provide with solar lights marking them at night. Do Not Leave food out when camping or away from site. Bears are rarely seen but it is wild country. Sites have locking garbage lids.
Unique and lovely as well as being next to trails and roads to miles of remote spots with very few if any ... people.
In Winter we request only AWD vehicles go down to this site or park up by farmhouse and hike in so you can easily get out. When wet park up by the road if you have 2 wheel drive.
Always WISE to arrive When LIGHT out as we do not live at the site and are not able to show guests to their sites as a result.

Salamander Hollow is a private, evolving honeybee and human being
sanctuary on 17 acres of land abutting Massachusetts State Forest. We
currently have a one-room, wood stove warmed, cozy sleeping loft for one or two - with two benches below on either side of room - for two sleeping bags; plus, a separate 22 foot Sioux tipi with two cots. There are two chairs in the tipi, which if removed at night, make floor room for four other sleeping bags.
'Forest Bathing' for miles!
If you're a larger group booking Salamander Hollow main camp with its Sleeping Library, Tipi & Slovenian Beehive House, you might consider renting this additional Tiny Cabin want to entertain all in glamping style, utilizing its amenities; as well, providing another bathroom/shower and guest bedroom for those who prefer being indoors while in the great outdoors.
Note that Kula Bata Tiny Cabin abuts the wheelchair accessible larger bathroom/shower which is available to those at the Salamander Hollow main camp, yet you are secluded with your own private entry points and private bathroom.
A ten minute drive takes you to the parking area to hike up Tully Mountain. There is a grill, wood fired pizza oven, two fire pits and a hygienic Incinolet electric toilet on the property for night convenience, with small camp sinks for washing & teeth brushing.
Take a short hike off the property to organic Chase Hill Farm for milk, eggs, seasonal veggies, grass fed meat and other goodies. Say hello to their cows, chickens, pigs, goats, pups and kids. Nestled across the road from Salamander Hollow is Timber Haven Farm, where you can schedule your pickup of bacon and eggs, while loading up on delicious Owl Energy Bars for your adventurous excursions. For those interested in the glamping side of camping, you will enjoy a remote rustic experience with a few creature comforts to keep you well read, clean and fed. Please bring your own bedding - pillows, sleeping bags, comforter, teddy bears.There is a wall mounted blue tooth car radio/CD player in Sleeping Library, so bring your pre-digital favorites. Classical CDs to listen to. Lots of eclectic books to peruse.Walkie talkies, a set of 4, are available upon request. Chess & poker sets, too.

Bring fire-starters/newspaper for tinder. We suggest if you are staying more than a night or two in winter, you bring supplemental wood or we can direct you to a nearby stand. Next season, our own cut and split wood will be seasoned and available on site. We ask that you carry out trash and recyclables.
An established Western facing four point sacred Medicine Wheel site being established on Askari Ridge - our name for the slope starting with the two fire pits - 'Askari' being Swahili for night guard.
Here is where we envision a great touch-point area for those leading groups to be for a base-camp by day or night, where eventually a multi-use tenting platform/performance stage will be constructed for outdoor entertainment, creating an authentic 'stadium style' seating on the hill.
You will see on your way up to Salamander Hollow main clearing - the Kula Bata Tiny Kabin on the left of the dirt road- now available to rent with its small guest room for two, infrared sauna, hot shower, kitchenette, dishwasher and laundry.

During your stay you are welcome to visit the animals, explore the forested trails, and walk up to the pond. Stephanie is a stellar host. Warm and helpful and great with communication.
The cabin (Sunshine) is cute and the simple thoughtful touches and amenities were appreciated.
The sky was so clear, I could see the milky way. In all my living days in Vermont, I have never seen such a beautiful star-filled sky.
There was something beautiful about the way the camp is sited on a high meadow, and the way the light of the setting sun spread across the wildflowers and fields.
I was here on Labor Day weekend and while the day was warm, the night was clear and crisp, so make sure you have warmth for possible cold nights.
Enjoy your time, and make sure to enjoy a dip at nearby Somerset Reservoir.

Once again, we've had a great stay at Grateful Acres! Both nights of our stay this time saw the campground fully booked but the hosts ensure a quiet, respectful stay. As always the camp store had all we needed; fire wood was plentiful; the cabin, grounds, and outhouses/portapotty were all exceptionally clean and well maintained. We love the depth of silence and rest found on this fully off-grid campground tucked into the beautiful Vermont forest! 🥰

It’s nice and secluded. Was perfect for our two dogs. The cabin was clean and they supplied us with a lantern which came in handy in the cabin. The outhouse was clean too. The hosts answered our questions and was there if we needed anything. We were there for 5 days and the no showers were a little inconvenient, but we found public showers that were a half hour drive and stopped there after going out on hikes. Overall it was a perfect “off grid” vacation.

Had a lovely stay at Renel’s little cabin by the river.
Would NOT have guessed it’s so close to a main road based on other reviews. That is not mentioned!
The flow of the river right beside you drowns out most of the sound but big trucks and motorcycles are easily heard. Also, the cabin is in plain view from the bridge on Harbour Rd but there is not much traffic and we never felt intruded upon.
So do not expect to be in the middle of nowhere, but we felt like there was plenty of privacy and peace.
Cabin itself is great and Renel and family are delightful. Amazing first visit to Vermont!

4 nights at Green Mountain Getaway
We loved the cabin so much. Private, beautiful views, well stocked with water and firewood. The swimming pond is a real treat on hot days too. Would definitely come back!

Positively surpassed our expectations in every way imaginable. This was the highlight of our summer and possibly the coolest thing I've ever done with my son before. Safe, serene, thoughtfully designed, incredibly cool, such great and welcoming communication with the host, a friendly and healing environment.
We spent the day just floating on the giant lake and exploring. Saw some cool birds, a baby snake and the coolest bug I've ever seen. 100% best spot ever!

This was a great little cabin to go with my two youngest children! We played outside all day around the fire pit and the yard exploring the property a little to look at statues. And then it when it was bedtime it was Wi-Fi on best of all worlds! The decor is so beautiful with all of the exposed wood and the art collection is immaculate and eclectic! You can tell Miss Mary has poured her heart into this place the infrared sauna was neat too! Not as intense as a traditional one, well at least not at the lower setting I use. We would recommend camping here if you don't have or want to get all the camping gear, there's a fully stocked kitchen I didn't need to bring tin foil! I didn't need to bring a long lighter! Everything was there along with the stove fridge and basic spices.

Group trip
My 2 teenagers and I had a really good time camping the tent and all the accessories provided made it less stressful for a Friday after work.. we were NOT prepared for the bathroom accommodations and that there were not any other bathrooms to utilize, even on the beach there wasn’t a bathroom??? Odd!!! Also the directions weren’t clear.. we drove around for over an hour trying to find the camp.. I also tried to contact Donna and never heard back.. Frustrating!! Eventually we found the camp and we enjoyed every minute we had together!!

We had a great stay at the cabin. Rebecca was a responsive host and the space was perfect for us and our two dogs. The cabin was spacious and clean. The dogs appreciated how dog friendly it was (bowls, poop bags, a treat jar, a comfy dog bed, etc) and the site was peaceful.

1 night at The Cabin

River Haven was the perfect getaway. I was looking to go “off-grid” and that’s exactly what I got plus a cozy cabin with everything you need and beautiful stream to wake up and fall asleep too. It was perfect
