A former farm now a 150 acre forested retreat. Mt Ascutney, a 3500' monadnock is to the north and view in excess of 60 miles to the south. Phone numbers on the wall of the cabin. The road has gotten quite rough with all the wet weather. 4wd with ground clearance is recommended. Total trip from our house is 320yd if your car is not up to the trip in. Curl up in front of the fire and relax. Marsh Billings farm museum in Woodstock has lots of Vermont Country store is close and Woodstock has unique shopping. Spacious one room camp, bunk bed, dinning table, and chairs. Sweeping view to the South. Swimming pond 5 minute walk. LP burner and some cooking utensils. Wood stove for those chilly nights. No electricity but LED battery lighting. l. Note that we do not charge a cleaning fee like some sites. We appreciate our guest leaving the camp as found. So far so good! Camp has the following: LP 2 burner cook top, pots and pans, dishes, flat ware, some spices and such. Fresh clean water will be at the camp when you arrive. The furnished jugs have been cleaned. If you still wish to bring your own drinking water please do so in reusable jugs. We are trying to limit plastic use. NOTE: Using GPS, Google map, or other device our address may come up as Perkinsville, Ascutney, or even Springfield even though the town is Weathersfield. Check the map and just confirm that Center Grove Rd is shown or called out as off of Weathersfield Center Rd. Firewood for the outside fire pit is available under extras. However if it has rained or raining you may want to bring kindling wood. We now have slab wood for sale if you do not want to rummage for wood in the forest PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN KINDLING WOOD FOR THE STOVE. Chunk wood is furnished for the inside stove. There is a splitting maul, snow shovel, and hatchet Check in and out times are flexible if no one is booked on either side. We have a level 2 EV charger listed under extras. And last but not least if wedding bells are in your future your host is a Justice of the Peace and can perform wedding services!. 3rd time stay here and what a charm it is. My GF and I brought our pups and they had a great time exploring the area around the cabin. We hiked Mt Ascutney and went swimming by a nearby dam. We will definitely be back.

Amazing weekend retreat!
Green Mountain Retreat
Wow! Johns land is absolutely stunning. We spent the weekend in this lovely cabin overlooking the Vermont mountain slopes. The cabin is rustic but super functional. There are basic cooking supplies, gas burners and plenty of kitchenwear. The cabin is fitted with huge windows, one next to the double bottom bunkbed where we slept, looking right out in to the lush forrest surrounding the cabin. Summer had started but the nights were still chilly so we were lucky to be able to use the old stove -- which was not just warm but cosy! We spent most of the time at the cabin, waking to the morninglight, sunbathing in the grassfield and experiencing a the stunning sun setting behind the slopes. The place is absolute privacy and if you have all the food and drinks you need with you, there is no reason to leave. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to escape for a few days. There is a pond to swim in behind Johns house, but we did not try it. Anyways thank you to John!

More amenities and supplies than expected. The cabin was well stocked with lots of potable water, dishes, firewood, etc. Which was helpful because it was unseasonably cold and rainy and we needed to light the wood stove to warm up! A nice view, and a nice cabin to unwind and unplug.

This was my third time visiting and it's always a peaceful experience. I love how light the cabin is on the inside. The woodstove makes it fun and was easily able to keep the inside warm but it probably only got down to freezing outside.

We had a great stay at this cabin and would absolutely come back. One of the things I appreciated most is how private it is—unlike many other rentals, there are no additional sites on the property, so the cabin and the surrounding space are entirely yours. The cabin itself is exactly as described, comfortable, and thoughtfully set up. What truly stood out to me, though, was how welcome we felt. As an immigrant, I’m very intentional about choosing places where my family—and really anyone from a minority background—can feel safe and respected. This was definitely one of those places. The owners are genuinely kind, good people, and it shows in the way they host. A lovely bonus: they make their own maple syrup, which you can purchase during your stay. And the views are beautiful—you can see the mountains right from the cabin, which made mornings and evenings especially memorable. Overall, a peaceful, welcoming place that I’d highly recommend.

My husband & I stayed in John & Pattie’s cabin for his birthday, and we brought our 3 dogs! We typically choose secluded sites as our dogs are very weary/nervous of strangers and like their space. This cabin was the perfect spot for them! A heads up; they give you warnings via signage in the cabin and i will warn you as well; there are a LOT of ticks! it’s the woods, there’s gonna be ticks but we’d use a sticky roller & find one every time we were outside on the dogs. just get a good flea & tick for them 👌 there is a cast iron stove that kept us extremely warm during the below freezing nights, & our hosts provided all the wood for the inside stove which was so kind. on our way home to philadelphia, we stopped by a local dispensary and met some of the nicest people. we’d never been to vermont before & this was an amazing first experience. everyone we’d met there was sooo nice, starting with our hosts John & Pattie! we bought some of their homemade maple syrup (HIGHLY recommend)! John also came up to the cabin to check on us & surprised our dogs, (our dogs don’t love strange men… apologies again, john!) and he responded exactly as one should when approached by barking, nervous dogs. it was refreshing and while i’m upset with my dogs for running up to him, it’s nice to see someone who understands how to interact with dogs. thank you so much for having us, we will be back for a winter camp next season ❤️

This little getaway was the perfect little adventure for my boyfriend’s birthday. The hosts were so helpful, giving us the option to purchase fire wood for the wood stove. We didn’t think we’d need it but the brisk mornings and breezy sunsets gave us the perfect opportunity to get cozy. The view left us stunned as we do not experience anything like it in our small Mass town. We cannot wait to plan another trip here to experience every season!

We stayed 2 nights with our 2 dogs in March. The weather was colder than usual, both nights below freezing temps outside. The wood stove had no issue keeping the inside of the cabin very warm despite the cold (accidentally let it get up to 80+ degrees and had to open windows). We brought all of our usual camping gear because I like it be overly prepared but didn't need most of it at all. Would have been fine if we just brought food and clothing everything else is provided. Very quiet and secluded feel with a nice view overlooking valley below and mountain across the valley. Good view of the sky and no light pollution. Great trip very relaxing was able to put phones away and unwind.

INCREDIBLE The cabin is gorgeous, overlooks hills and forests, the wood stove kept us warm all weekend and the overall energy of the cabin is just really welcoming and lovely. Exactly what we needed. John was super accommodating, the lighting worked well, and we bought some maple syrup. Thanks John hope to stay up there again !!

Perfect cozy getaway

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and loved our time at John's place. We usually camp but didn't want to deal with all the gear this year. It is private, cozy, the wood stove is amazing! It was the first super cold night of the year, first frost, and we loved being cozy inside with the fire. The outdoor fire pit is great too with incredible mountain views. We had everything we needed, the cabin was perfect, even books/coloring pencils/games. John is responsive and an excellent host. We'd love to return and for a couple more nights next time!

I loved the mountain cabin! My friend Brian and my canine friend Snoop Dawg had a relaxing time sitting by the fire and star gazing, the wood stove was toasty on those chilly nights, and the cabin was equipped with all that you need to cook over the fire or inside. I made an apple crisp over the fire pit our last night there after climbing Mt Ascutney. I would highly recommend this site and the host John was kind and accommodating!

Stunning views, fields, sunsets and stargazing while cooking and strumming guitar around a peaceful campfire with an orchestra of crickets. Then retreating to a cozy cabin with propane cooktop, solar lights, and bunk beds to clean up and curl up. So peaceful. My husband and I and our doggo had an amazing time. John was a gem. Great communication, great people. So many thoughtful details. Our only regret is that it was too warm to light the indoor wood stove.

What an amazing little getaway! We loved our two night stay at John’s cabin. The cabin was nice and cozy and John provided 15 gallons of potable water for us along with some towels, and plenty of firewood. The views from the cabin and campfire were absolutely spectacular. Both nights we sat by the fire, watched the most amazing sunsets, and stargazed well into the night! Can’t recommend this place enough, we loved every minute of our stay! Thank you John!

Beautiful spot! You feel like you’re a million miles away from civilization but a short 5 minute drive will take you to a convenience store. Rustic but everything you need, peaceful and quiet with nothing but the sound of nature and the night sky is breathtaking as is the view. Loved the decorative solar lights-they added a bit of a festive atmosphere! Would highly recommend this and am looking forward to going back.

Really great rustic cabin. John is a great host with a great set up. We wanted to “camp” a few nights without bringing along all our gear and this was perfect for that. We love to cook over the campfire and got our fill of that here, cabin has a lot of basics including a percolator for coffee as well as a kettle that we used to heat water for the French press we brought along with us. Note for any other chefs out there that there’s not much cast iron suitable for use over open fire so you might want to bring a pan or griddle for the fire if that’s your thing. Butcher and pantry is a great little market nearby!

Green Mountain Retreat
This is my family's 5th year (6th visit) to John's lovely red cabin and it has become an annual tradition prior to dropping my daughter off at summer camp. The pond is always refreshing, a place to play and also hang out and connect. We enjoy making meals, eating it out on the picnic table and building a roaring fire. And to top it off, the outhouse is my all time favorite with windows that look out into the woods.

Perfect getaway
Green Mountain Retreat
We had a perfect stay at this cabin it was the ideal spot to relax and unwind. The place is very quiet, with a stunning view, and the cabin itself is cozy and well equipped for a comfortable stay. We even found a lovely river in a nearby village where we could go for a swim, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming. Highly recommended! Can’t wait to come back.

I stayed here with my adventure cat for a peaceful birthday weekend, and while it rained too much for the hiking I'd anticipated, it was so cozy to read and only hear the sound of rain and birdsong. John and Patti considered all the details when putting this together and were easy to communicate with during our stay. I would definitely love to return.

I loved staying here as a solo traveler! It was the perfect place for me and my pup to unwind and get away. John and Patti are so great in providing just about everything you might have forgotten, and explaining everything you need to know with signs. They truly go above and beyond in all respects.
