A former farm now a 150 acre forested retreat. Mt Ascutney, a 3500' monadnock is to the north and view in excess of 60 miles to the south. The beautiful Weathersfield meeting house is our neighbor as you enter the Late fall or early winter, take your pick. It is getting cold so be prepared. We plow the road in but do not sand it. 4wd and good tires a must. The fall has been very wet and we will need to close at least part of the time to keep the road from getting too torn up. Total trip from out house is 320yd. Curl up in front of the fire and relax. Marsh Billings farm museum in Woodstock has lots of fall activities. Christmas is not that far away, Vermont Country store is close and Woodstock has unique shopping. We are closing weekdays during the winter as a general rule. If you want to stay for an extra day let us know and we will unblock. Spacious one room camp, bunk bed, dinning table, and chairs. Sweeping view to the South. Swimming pond 5 minute walk. LP burner and some cooking utensils. Wood stove for those chilly nights. No electricity but LED battery lighting. l. Note that we do not charge a cleaning fee like some sites. We appreciate our guest leaving the camp as found. So far so good! Camp has the following: LP 2 burner cook top, pots and pans, dishes, flat ware, some spices and such. Fresh clean water will be at the camp when you arrive. The furnished jugs have been cleaned. If you still wish to bring your own drinking water please do so in reusable jugs. We are trying to limit plastic use. NOTE: Using GPS, Google map, or other device our address may come up as Perkinsville, Ascutney, or even Springfield even though the town is Weathersfield. Check the map and just confirm that Center Grove Rd is shown or called out as off of Weathersfield Center Rd. We DO NOT furnish wood for the outside fire pit. There is plenty of wood to scavenge on site. There is a small buck saw in the cubby. However if it has rained or raining you may want to bring kindling wood. We now have slab wood for sale if you do not want to rummage for wood in the forest PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN KINDLING WOOD FOR THE STOVE. Chunk wood is furnished for the inside stove. There is a splitting maul, snow shovel, and hatchet Check in and out times are flexible if no one is booked on either side. And last but not least if wedding bells are in your future your host is a Justice of the Peace and can perform wedding services!

Green Mountain 🏔️ White 🎅🏻 Christma🎄
🏂⛷ 🏂Born free. ✨Be free. 💫Happy holidays.❄️☃️🎄 👄TELL YOUR MIND🧠 HOW TO SPEND THESE HOLIDAYS!!!❄️☃️🎄 We 🌬commanded it to be a white Christmas🌨 ❄️ ☃️ ⛄️ with a brilliant sunrise 🌞in the snow❄️, and for that we moved to an old ⛺️farmhouse with a 150 acre wooded retreat. Mt Ascutney🏔, a monadnock of 3500 to the north and with a view of more than 60 miles to the south. This rustic and secluded spacious camp consists of a room, a bunk bed, LP burner and some cooking utensils, dining table and chairs, a cozy living room with many board games for entertainment, an outhouse (Room that has a toilet outside the cabin 🧻 🚽) , a 🔥salamander stove of firewood for those cold nights like December 23 and 24, 2022, all without electricity, but with💡 LED battery lighting, 🏊 🏊‍♂️a swimming pond 5 minutes walk away, which we could not use due to inclement weather, but to all this a panoramic view to the north of Mount Ascutney, a mountain in the US state of Vermont. At 3,144 feet, it is the second highest 🏔 peak in Windsor County. Moving away from our comfort zone to enter a completely ♻️green world, where they reject plastic and air pollution, where at night, despite the fact that the💨 🌨 ❄️temperature was -17°, from our window we were able to stargaze ⚡️ ☄️without the use of binoculars, appreciating the famous star of Bethlehem✨, the corvus constellation🌟, the 💫major and minor bear☄️. You must think that it was a very cold but romantic 💑adventure at the same time enjoying the aptly named the greenest state in all

We had THE BEST time staying at John’s cabin. The perfect spot for a weekend getaway that is secluded with the most amazing views of the mountains. It is also very close to many hiking trails and breweries. We will definitely be coming back again!

City Retreat
John’s cabin is perfect. It is secluded and peaceful perched on top of a mountain with a great view. The cabin provided ample room for our group of four to sleep, eat and socialize. Couldn’t recommend this cabin more as it is a perfect retreat from the city. John is a great host who provided everything needed for a weekend getaway. His generosity for providing wood, basic essentials and recommendations made our stay even more enjoyable. We look forward to visiting again as it’s the perfect distance from Boston!

Rustic serenity with dazzling views
Really amazing unique spot. Perfect for a family member who's on the fence about camping. Unparalleled view that sins up Vermont in one landscape. Lots of great amenities-we way over packed. And one of the nicest outhouses you'll ever use. The pond was an amazing perk - we must it already.

This is my third time to visit John's lovely red cabin and each time I have arrived I am again delighted by the view, the beautiful simplicity of the cabin, the windows in the outhouse and the amazing swimming pond. It is becoming a family tradition to spend the weekend here before taking our kids to overnight summer camps in southern Vermont. It is the perfect place to connect, making dinner and eating it out on the picnic table, watching the hang gliders in the distance, going to a nearby farm and picking berries and floating around in the cool pond water. John is a lovely host and I look forward to returning again.

John was a great host. Cute cabin with a small solar panel driving some nice comforts. with a great view. We had a great conversation with the cows on the hill through the trees. It was a nice walk down for fresh eggs in the morning. We enjoyed the butterflys and honey bees in the field. My compact awd suv made it up the trail no problem.

A puppies fantasy retreat
The property was beautiful! The bed was surprisingly comfortable which has not always been true of our cabin in the woods without running water experience. The pond was a blast! Deep enough to actually swim and our puppy discovered chasing frogs is his new favorite pastime. Our host provided everything we needed and then left us alone to enjoy it. We highly recommend this cabin of serenity.

Perfect getaway!
John’s little red cabin was the perfect weekend getaway! It was very secluded with amazing views, yet close enough to the main house that we got to chat a little with John and his lovely wife Patty. The location is close enough to grocery stores and also other points of interest. The pond was a really great bonus too. I’m already looking to book it again next month.

Cabin With a View, AND so Much More
This spot is amazing! Truly a gem. I stayed here with my 72 year old mom for 4 nights and it was exactly what we were looking for. Quite, peaceful, beautiful surroundings for gazing either day or night. Short walks on the property were nice, and more challenging hikes within 10 minute drive (Mt Ascutney, Little Ascutney and river walk). The cabin was a fantastic upgrade to our typical tent/lean-to camping style and it had absolutely everything we needed. The water jugs that John had waiting for us were very helpful. The indoor fire place was dreamy, and the 2-burner stove top was appreciated and used more than we anticipated. John was a very respectful host. He checked on us during our stay to make sure we felt comfortable in the cabin and with it's many uses. The view from the cabin was incredibly and the environment was very peaceful. The fireflies were out in full force during our stay, which my mom enjoyed tremendously. We were lucky to have the biting insects at bay during our stay (mid-late June). My mom did have a challenging time with the rough terrain around the site and to the outhouse. This was exactly the setting we were looking for, AND this is not the typical state campsite with paved roads to the bathrooms and hand raked flat campsites. A person with limited sight and ability may find this site challenging. Thankful John had ski/walking poles sitting in the cabin and my mom was able to modify her steps with their aid. We would excitedly visit again.

This is a beautiful spot. As a single dad, I was nervous about bringing my 3 kids(all 8 and under) to a cabin in the woods with no electricity but they had a blast! It was really nice to unplug and connect with the kids. The owner (John) offered up the pond behind his house for swimming and there are some beautiful swimming/fishing spots just a short drive away. At night we enjoyed a stunning sunset over the mountains and a great show of fireflies to finish the night.

Like living in a painting
This was one of the nicest hip camp location we have ever been to. Upon arrival, we drove up to very well treated land and continued up the hill and through the trees until we reached the beautiful cabin with a view. Cabin: 9/10. Cabin was clean and equipped with everything one could ever need. Forgot cooking supplies? They've got it on the cabin. Don't want to grill outside? They have a camp stove set up inside for ya. Get cold at night? There are extra sheets and sleeping bags in what you brought was not enough. Bored? There are a lot of games, coloring, chalk, etc. to entertain your hearts desire. I loved waking up to the trees outside and hearing the birds chirping. If it weren't for the pesty ant (termite?) invasion I would absolutely give it a 10/10 but I'm terrified of any sort of flying insect near where I sleep so it gets a 9. Outdoor space: 11/10. The fire pit and bench were well taken care of. We did bring our own firewood picked up locally but when we ran out we were able to purchase some slabs for $5 a wagonload which was nice. If you visit in the warmer months, bring a canopy or you will be outside in the full sun (which is wonderful for folks that want to tan). We also visited the pond which was refreshing and nice. Overall loved spending time outside the cabin this weekend. View: 12/10. No description needed. It's like a painting and at night just look up at the stars. We will definitely recommend this listing to our friends!
