Rainbow Ridge itself is largely comprised of the three houses on property as well as the surrounding woodlands. Its area spans fifty acres of elevated terrain surrounded by a forest creek (where crawdads can be found). The camping area is on about five acres of the property and is populated by alders and evergreens, making it a wonderful place to connect with nature. It's a beautiful area sure to soothe the soul. A short but captivating nature trail is open to campers who are interested in a walk up the gentle hill. We do have a worm composting toilet and water available for washing. A new hot shower will be available. A couple of more sites are in the plans.
Nearby is the quaint town of Montesano. Lake Sylvia is there for those looking to discover one of our lovely state parks. Closer by, there is a river with boat launch that runs down and through Montesano for people who want to swim, fish, float, or boat. Montesano's central location in Grays Harbor allows it to serve as a wonderful base of operations for those looking to explore more of the coast, and northwestern peninsula.
The way up to Rainbow Ridge is a short winding driveway of somewhat steep grade, delivery trucks have no problems, so if you have a small camper or less, you should be fine.

The trail is historic to the property - you will find remnants of fallen barbed wire fences, an abandoned electrical post from 70 years ago, and a 1960’s sedan, all taken back by the forest.
A wetland boardwalk ushers you to a creekside deck. A birdwatcher's paradise, here you can kayak into Lake Isabella or tube downstream. This is private access -- the expansive wetlands prevent neighbors - you will only share this special space with the occasional kayaker. There is a beaver dam just upstream, and if you visit at twilight you will hear them stir from dens along the bank.
When hunger stirs, stroll north along the trail to a secluded upland picnic table. Dine among the woodland animals.

We are about 45 minutes from ocean beaches, only a few minutes from the best riding, hiking and boating in the world. We have a cute bar and restaurant within a mile. Also gas and groceries are close as well. Boat launch is about 1/2 a block easy access.
There is talk about sites at the river, we have some in their premature stage. This is NOT offered through our Hip Camp site!!!!! There are reasons for this: When we initially opened, we allowed people to camp there through Hip Camp and I was getting low stars ratings because Entitled people thought for $28 bucks, they got the whole river to themselves and would fight with other campers. IT JUST GOT TO EXHAUSTING. In the coming years I’m going to try to set up some premium sites on the river and work super hard at getting amenities that will match that price. But for now, Enjoy Camp Hope and the river ACCESS too!! We appreciate the wonderful feedback everyone gives it helps us grow with you!!

We are fortunate to live here, and we want to share the beauty with you. Please stay here and take a moment free of worry and free of hurry.
About the hosts: Camas and her father, Randy, co-host this property. One or both will be onsite at all times should any issue arise. Please message if you need a last-minute booking and it appears to be blocked. We can't do an "instant book," but there's always a possibility that we can accommodate you.
About the site:
This 17-foot 2005 Jay Feather Ultra Lite trailer is clean and cozy - perfect for one or two people. A third person is welcome, but it will likely be a little cramped. The double bed has a memory foam mattress and is made-up with quality sheets. Towels are provided at no extra cost.
The kitchen has a 3 burner propane stove and oven, a small fridge, a microwave, and sink. Coffee, tea, tea kettle, French Press, creamer, and sugar are provided, as well as a few dishes, a pot and pan, and utensils.
The spring water is sourced directly from our property and filtered, so you can enjoy it from the tap! In my opinion, it's some of the best water around - feel free to fill up before you depart.
The site is set back from WA-State Route 106, but only by about 20 yards. There is traffic noise during the day, but it's not too bad, and it is typically pretty quiet at night. Hopefully you enjoy the sounds of wildlife ~ birds, lapping waves, and even a creek add to the experience.
A panoramic view of the estuary is one of the best parts of this property. It's dreamy, really. With the tide changing every 6 hours, you just can't get bored. You may fall asleep to tide flats and wake up to what feels like a lake.
If you like being on or in the water - bring some kayaks, surf or paddle boards, and some high quality water shoes (never go barefoot!). You will have access to 400 feet of private beach and tide flats. Kayaking is tide dependent - recommendations for paddle times will be in the binder.
(Currently closed to harvesting 6/23) If you have your shellfish license, feel free to harvest a few oysters or clams (depending on DOH recommendations) . Be aware - it is a rustic beach, and it is across the highway, so watch for traffic and watch your step on the beach.
Our house is within sight of the trailer, but you have to make an effort to see it. From our house, we can only see the parking spot, and due to shrubbery & a shed, we can't hear talking voices, so it is pretty private. We do have 2 very friendly, small dogs who will undoubtedly alert us to your arrival, but they stay on our deck and quiet down right away.
A welcome binder and maps will help you get an idea of the area. For a tiny town, Union has a LOT to offer - there are several dining choices within a few miles. Union was even listed in the top 10 "Prettiest Towns in America" in Forbes Magazine in 2009!

We had a relaxing time at this property. It was nice to walk down to the dock. We didn’t go into the lake but the water was warm. We were able to fit our 30ft trailer but had to maneuver to get it in there with our truck. The owner stopped by to say hi and was super nice. The owner is so nice! It’s a nice little place that worked well for a night. The spots are first come first serve. Unfortunately we were next to the bathroom and we were woken up through the night to the door slamming. There is no actual privacy so if you don’t mind that then you will enjoy the location.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Camp Birdwatch in Elma. The scenery alone makes this place worth the trip — lush, green, and peaceful, with a campsite that felt tucked away from everything. We spotted an impressive variety of birds throughout our stay, which made mornings and evenings especially magical, and we got a kick out of the local slugs and snakes making their appearances too (all part of the charm of camping in the Pacific Northwest). Nearby fishing and swimming spots rounded out the trip perfectly, giving us plenty to do beyond just relaxing at the site.
Don was a wonderful host who made sure we were all taken care of the entire time — attentive, friendly, and clearly passionate about the property. We'll definitely be back and would recommend Camp Birdwatch to anyone looking for a peaceful, nature-filled getaway.

Huge private campsite! Nice mowed field surrounded by woods. We enjoyed the occasional chicken that came for a visit. Kathy is an excellent host. We hope to make it back again soon for another peaceful weekend.

We loved it!! It was quiet and the spaces are spaced out very nicely. I will say the porta potty was very nasty, though that is not the owners fault that is people lacking the ability to clean up after themselves. We live close by and just needed a weekend away so we weren’t bothered by the nearby shooting and the trains that pass every once in a while. The trains were infrequent, we saw 3 or 4. And it’s actually pretty cool, though it could startle some pets if you got some timid fury friends! The spots themselves are well maintained, and very well spaced. Definitely a perfect place to pitch a tent for a couple nights away for a break. We would definitely book here again, thank you so much!

Really beautiful area, sites were thoughtfully laid out and decently spaced. River access was easy to get to. Cool to be so close to the trains going by - but also a bit loud - the schedule seemed to be more frequent on Friday than Saturday.

Our group had a great time at Camp Hope - the site is organized and laid out similar to a State Park. Each site had their own wood stack, barrel grill, and a table for hipcampers. A clean porta-potty is also accessible to surrounding sites.
Additionally, the site is private and secured. The gate is locked at all times. We briefly checked out the river which is a few minutes walk off site.

Carl was extremely friendly and thoughtful, and you can tell he put a lot of time and care into the entire property, especially the campsite. Yes, the road is nearby, but it’s not a busy metropolis with cars constantly driving by. Once you’re behind the fence, Carl has created such a beautiful little oasis that you almost forget there’s anywhere else around you.
I was genuinely amazed by the beauty of the site and how easily it transports you somewhere completely different. The host was also refreshingly laid-back. In a world where so many people seem uptight and anxious, it’s really nice to interact with someone who is genuinely down-to-earth and easygoing.

We loved our experience at Shanna's. The sites are grouped in twos. We were able to hear a bigger group next to us at our original site, but Shanna let us switch to a quieter site that was open. It was so calm and peaceful and a steal for the price. Very clean porta potty. Thank you!

We were looking for a private place where the dog could be free without worry. Us old people could laugh loudly into the night without disturbing others. While also not having to see or hear anyone else!
You want privacy and you want plenty of room for everyone. This is the place. The outdoor sink is brilliant and with hot water! You step into the bathroom and you feel like you stepped into someone's hall bath (love the wood slab). The outdoor shower that we all were skeptical about. Ended up being a wonderful experience that we kept coming back to.
Biggest perks outside of the bathroom and shower! Internet (not much cell reception), water, power and best of all sewer hookup!! We were there for several days and slipping on the gravel going up the driveway without grey/black water tanks being full, made us nervous about leaving. The sewer hookup made it like we were at home.
Use the private Lake! Being able to paddle board in that location practically by yourself.. life long memory!
Driveway is a bit steep. But well worth it!

7 nights at Fischer's Place on the Estuary
Absolutely perfect place! Amazing view, wonderful hosts, and tasty treats! We were welcomed by a hand typed letter and some welcoming gifts, which were so sweet since it was my fiancés birthday trip. We stayed a week, and wished we could stay even longer! Camas and her father were so sweet to us, the best hosts ever(great conversation too!) We are definitely looking forward to coming back again.

The property that the site sits on is amazing. So many incredible views, including a view of the capital building. Green table is the biggest site and Pink table has the best view which is where I'll mostly like camp next time. The well water is delicious! It's so close to the free way and also to stores.

We had a great stay here and the owners were especially kind as they gave recommendations for some things in the area to do with our kids in the area. We used this as a place to hang out during the evening and early morning while traveling out to various parts of the greater Seattle area. My boys especially loved the fishing right from the dock and kayaks. Getting our 25' trailer in was a little difficult but managed it fine after allowing the road to clear around us. Definitely worth a stay.

1 night at The Land Sanctuary of Erosia
Sarah’s land was serene and we had a lovely stay in the stargazer yurt! The road up was easily accessible in an AWD and clearly marked. The space was clean and Sarah was accommodating for our short trip. My partner and I would be happy to stay here again.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet at the green table site. Lots of birds to see and listen to. With the Puget Sound air, be aware that it can get damp overnight. We were there on weekdays and lucky enough to have the whole space to ourselves! The giant swing was a massive hit with my daughter. Would go again and bring friends!

Situated on the idyllic Satsop River located midway between Olympia and Ocean Park, this sportsman’s paradise boasts fruitful fishing, swimming, and two miles of scenic hiking trails for all ages. The park itself is a recognized national historic site, so make like a pioneer and vibe out under the clear, starry night sky at one of the 41 designated tent spaces. Need a few more creature comforts, or have a larger group? Schafer’s can dig. Their nine spots offer running water, electrical outlets, and one mega-camp providing basic amenities. What’s that? Fish weren’t biting today? Well no worries! The park store’s got you with camping essentials, sweets, ice cream, and a variety of other items. Oh, and make sure to check ahead–the park offers a slew of cool events running throughout the year!
When to go
The best time to visit Schafer State Park is during the warmer months, from late spring to early fall, when the weather is ideal for camping and river activities. Winter can be less inviting due to cooler temperatures and limited park services. Plan your visit around the park's open hours, from 8am to dusk, to make the most of your day.
Know before you go
- Ensure you have a Discover Pass; an annual pass is $30, and a one-day pass is $10.
- Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times.
- Check for any burn bans or fire restrictions before lighting a campfire.
- Accessible campsites and restrooms are available for those with mobility concerns.
- Remember to pack out all your trash and make use of the trash service provided.
