You'll see bald eagles, hear owls and watch deer pass through your camp. But you are only about a 5-10 min walk from town! This does mean you'll often hear music from events on weekend evenings, and plane traffic does fly overhead. Vashon is quiet and full of nature, but you're not out in the middle of nowhere! The lofted full bed is cozy, but don’t bop your head on the way out! The bed has a six inch memory foam mattress with extra blankets and pillows. Everything is washed with free and clear detergent for sensitivities.

The bed has 100% cotton sheets, pillow cases, and blanket. As well as a comfy coverlet. A feather alternative duvet is available for colder nights.

This campground is located within Maury Island Marine Park, on the east side of Maury Island, a peninsula of Vashon Island. One of the largest undeveloped properties located directly on Puget Sound with more than 1 mile of shoreline, the park provides stunning views of the East Passage, Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountains. The site had significance for early Native Americans and is referenced in a legend about Snake People who arrived from the mainland as part of war party.
The park contains rare stands of Pacific Madrone, a salt marsh, eelgrass beds and significant fish and wildlife habitat for such species as great blue herons, bald eagles, kingfishers, chinook salmon, orca, and bull trout.
Trail length within the park: 3 miles (plus .75 mile gravel maintenance road to the shoreline accessible to non-motorized vehicles only).

You are responsible for any damage or injuries caused by a fire you start, so please be careful!

The water at (shallower) Dockton Park (about a 6 min drive away) gets warm from swimming in summer if you prefer it to 54 degree deep water here!
Please clean up after your pet. Dogs must be leashed AT ALL TIMES in the field. If no one is around at the beach, they can be off leash, but leash up if anyone approaches until they pass. Please never leave your dog unattended outside where barking will disturb the peace.

3 nights at Octovus Waterfront Paradise
Our time at Octavius was perfect! The Airstream was very clean, comfortable and well appointed. It's not super private (there is are a couple small homes on the lot, one is also a vacation rental) but it was private enough for us. Margo has two dogs that roam the property that were very friendly. We enjoyed when the pups would come to us for a visit. The fresh eggs were wonderful for breakfast. The property and surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous. We would definitely recommend this HipCamp and hope to return again someday.

Jarrett has a little piece of heaven here!! Very rustic but that’s what is so amazing about this property. I was fortunate to have it to myself for 1 nights. Hard to believe it’s so close to Seattle. You feel completely free in nature with the comfort of a porta potty for that after coffee relief. I will return. Do all the things!!

1 night at Bywater Yurt
This was a solo-adventure for myself and it was perfect. Megan is so lovely and responsive. The yurt has a luxurious bed with tables in all the right spots. As detailed, there is no electricity. There are 2 lamps, that were enough for me, but if you need lots of light bring some pre-charged or battery powered lights and a flashlight to light your way to the compost toilet (it’s great!). The yurt is situated close to everything on the island, yet sits so far away from the road that it allows for the calm and quiet with amazing star gazing. Although it had been a warm day, the cross breeze through the screens made it cool by evening. The property is beautiful and if you’re lucky you’ll get to see the deer family that prefer Megan’s space to all others on the island.

Allison and Brian are creating an oasis with a lot of attention to details. It is a beautiful property that is close to many activities in the area.
We attended an event in Tacoma for a day and it was an easy trip.
Communication was easy and quick.
We recommend staying at least a few days. Besides lots of things to do close by, staying at the campsite was so relaxing! You do not want to miss out on the beautiful sauna, the comfortable lounge area or taking a stroll in their small, but magical forest.
We highly recommend staying with Allison and Brian!

Lisa was amazing. My daughter and I and our dog had such a fun time. Everything was perfect, and Lisa and her horses are terrific hostesses/hosts. Would definitely stay here again and absolutely recommend it if you’re planning to stay on Vashon Island and want a fabulous destination with epic views to stay and relax. You cannot beat this place and words cannot even do it justice. Highly recommend staying here

We really enjoyed this campsite. As is mentioned in the description, it is a little bit of a walk to the site itself, but there was a wagon to pull our stuff in which was so helpful. Our kids loved having some space to run around and explore. Overall it was a lovely place to stay.

Amazing place. So great that we booked a second night because we couldn’t get enough of the authentic experience in nature. It was exactly what we were looking for! You’re surrounded by trees and the only sounds are wildlife. Jarret was very kind and accommodating, he made us feel welcomed and showed us where everything was. Overview
About
Just a few miles southwest of Seattle in the heart of Puget Sound, Blake Island Marine State Park spans nearly all of Blake Island and is only reachable by boat. A mooring dock, moorage buoys, and paddle-in campsites are available, though most campsites are available only on a first-come, first-served basis. Five miles of driftwood-strewn beach ring the island, while eight miles of hiking trails run through the island’s interior. Fishing, crabbing, clamming, hiking, and biking are all popular activities here, where campers will get views of Seattle, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains from the shores.
Notable campgrounds
- Best all-around campground: The park’s main campground has the most amenities.
- Best for paddlers: The park’s three Cascade Marine Trail campsites are for paddlers and wind-powered vessels only.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Most Blake Island campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis year-round. However, from May 15 to September 15, 15 campsites are reservable in advance.
- Reservations for the 15 reservable summer campsites can be made nine months in advance online or by calling (888) 226-7688.
- The logistics of planning a boat trip to an island with first-come, first-served campsites and mooring options can be tricky. We recommend calling the park rangers at (360) 731-8330 for logistical questions and conditions.
When to go
Blake Island Marine State Park is open year-round, but summer is the most popular season for its long days and good weather. Winters are cold and wet, with highs in the mid-40s and lows in the mid-30s.
Know before you go
- The park’s 44 standard campsites include picnic tables, fire rings, tent pads, and access to restrooms and potable water.
- The park store at the park office carries firewood, snacks, and ice cream. Gathering firewood on the island is prohibited.
- Visitors must pack out all trash.
- Campers frequently spot deer, river otters, and bald eagles from Blake Island hiking and biking trails.

This was back in the early 90's, but I'm pretty sure the island hasn't moved much since then. We rode out from Lake Union and headed across the Sound with a pretty good chop on the water. Quick ride. A fun evening around the campfire, just hanging out. Would love to go back and check out the Tillicum Village dinner sometime...
