The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

The land has over a half a mile of river frontage and several streams, a beautiful varied forest, rambling topography, and plenty of wildlife. Many lessons in tracking may be found as whitetails, moose, black bear, fishers, bobcats, porcupine, coyotes, foxes, mink, ermine, snowshoe hare, wild turkey, and ruffled grouse, are seen and tracked. We live on 6 acres of woods and hay fields. Larry used to hay the fields, now the local dairy farmer is haying the fields. This property was a fallow dairy farm called the Common View Farm when we bought it in 2007. We hear the name came from the fact that we can see the Craftsbury Common from the height of the property. Legend holds that people have seen strange lights and orbs in the area. It may just be a yarn told by the locals to the new flatlanders. I have never noticed anything of the sort and I have been looking. Who doesn't like a good New England ghost story? There are 20 acres of hay fields, 6 acres are woods. We have one old goat, Brownie, and our dog, Tinker, who runs the land and loves dog friends as well as humans. Our views are of the Lowell Mountains closest and the Green Mountains in the distance. You can see the Lowell wind farm on the horizon. We have a large garden and raspberry patch. The house closest to the forest path to the camp no longer belongs to us rather neighbors who value their privacy. To be good neighbors we ask our guests to stay within the bounds of the property. It is from the beginning of the path and the 6 acres of woods where the camp is located. You know when you've reachd the edge of our property where the path ends and where you see a sign notifying property boundary edge. Learn more about this land: The Northwoods Gypsy Wagon is a 3-minute walk into the woods from the parking area. You can have all the solitude you'd like or visit the nearby towns. In this off-grid wagon, you will have an indoor cooking stove (2 burner propane) and a propane stove for the cooler nights but no running water, therefore no indoor plumbing. Fresh water, battery operated lights, solar panel which provides one lamp and a place to plug in your phone, coffee/tea set ups. Wi-Fi/cell cov is not available. There is a privy exclusively for the wagon and a place for a cold-water wash up. This is truly tiny space, however; sleeps 2 adults. You will have a table and chairs for a sit down chat or meal. In the dryer months fire-burning may be ill-advised or outright prohibited, you'll be advised.

There are several scenic campsites on the 150 acres, but only one will be rented each night to ensure a special experience. Wifi and power available across the brook outside the farmhouse as needed. No cell service. Spend lazy days exploring the woods, reading a book in a hammock, or sunning yourself on a rock in the river. A large 16'x20' tent with rain fly well accommodates up to four people. My husband and I had a memorable time at Chapin’s place. He has an incredible set up. The tent was roomy and everything inside was practical. It was stocked with plenty of wood for the fire pits and chiminea. We were able to cook breakfast and eat out on the picnic table. The hot tub was a welcome treat after spending hours hiking and swimming. The swim holes and waterfalls were beautiful and the water. Was crystal clear. Even the privy had a view! We have stayed at several Hipcamp places, and this is our favorite. We will be back!

The cabin came equipped with everything you could need to have the best glamping experience. We enjoyed that it came with an ac and we took advantage of cooking on the grill they had. I was nervous about the bathroom situation since it’s an out house but the decor made it feel homey and it just felt like any other bathroom, we were pleasantly surprised! We also loved that it came with a mini fridge and a coffee maker so we could enjoy coffee on the porch while looking out on the beautiful river and mountain view’s. We had such an amazing time that we plan to come back at the end of the month. Could not recommend this cabin enough!! ⛺️

May have been my favorite hipcamp ever. The green mountains of Vermont provide everything you could want, while the hosts provided everything you could need. Even wifi for my friend who needed to work/check emails. Hosts were prompt, professional (even with last minute booking). 10/10

3 nights at Sandiwood Farm Stay Experiences

We loved staying at the Forest Retreat with our dogs! It was perfect fit for what we needed, a little table with chairs, nice bed (bring your favorite blankets from home to make it even better!), a lovely porch we hung out on almost every second we got, and a loft we didn’t use but would be great for larger stay over groups! Outside there is a spot for a campfire, where we of course made a couple of camp meals including smores and pizza. There is also a communal camp kitchen if you do not have a cook set. Over all, Sara was an amazing host and was extremely kind for opening up her land to hipcampers! We will definitely be back! Highly recommend stopping by the Farm Stand to grab the most fresh produce you’ve ever had, amazing home made maple syrup, and a couple other fun things! We loved the 420 friendly farm vibes and her own personal organic grown.

Weekend Trip to Base Camp (NEW TO HIPCAMP!)

This place was amazing. We love off grid camping but decided to go here which had a tent set up with beds and linens. We bought our own linens cause of our dogs. Our site was the most secluded. Near a brook, and so quiet. Plenty of on site hiking trails. Host left wood at our site which we paid a small fee for. There was a full kitchen if you wanted to use as well as showers. we used the kitchen to fill water jugs and wash our dishes. Otherwise remained off grid. Base camp only allows access to guests via a secure coded gate. Mike and Jane answered all questions. Loaned us a wagon to get our gear to our site. Dogs played off leash for hours. Will be going back. Our site was Brooke Ledge.

My family and I had a great time at the Pine Haven bell tent. It was beautiful and comfortable. Kids loved the hammock :) Betsy was a friendly and accommodating host. I would highly recommend Green Mt Glamping :)

Weekend Trip to Ryegate Away Cabins

The cabin was great. The views were amazing! Jessica was very nice and responsive. It was very peaceful and quiet. 2 things. The cabins are not private. They are close to each other and they share the outhouse that is technically a bucket you are going to the bathroom in. If you don’t know the other people renting the cabin next to you it could be a little strange especially when the bucket fills close to the top. But overall the stay was great!

2 nights at The Hollow at Dynamite Falls

I booked this vacation in March and basically forgot about it until it was time to venture up to VT. We were blown away by the zip line, private swimming hole and all the thoughtful touches put in by Chapin and his family. Our dog LOVED being off leash to explore the hollow and surrounding areas, and it was private enough to not be worried about bothering anyone. The hot tub was a nice touch, despite us visiting during a heat wave the temps got low enough at night and in the morning to use it! When it got too hot midday, we'd cool off in the swimming hole. It was perfect. Having a queen sized bed to fall asleep on was amazing. We woke up to thunderstorms and torrential downpours the first night but stayed completely dry in the tent. The rushing water is like white noise which helped my daughter sleep later so I got some time to myself in the mornings. Also probably because of the excessive heat - at certain angles on hot days you can really smell the privy as you walk from the water up to the tent. We're already planning a return trip!

It was a beautiful spot overlooking the river. It was very peaceful and the cabin was spotless. Jessica was a great host and we would definitely come again if in the area. It was very close to the White Mountains and also close to the Northeast Kingdom.

4 nights at Green Mountain Glamping

We stayed at the Pine Haven Bell tent site for 4 nights and our group of 2 adults and 2 kids really enjoyed the glamping-ease. Beds and bedding were excellent. The tent was a great space and comfortable in all but the hottest temps (and stayed wonderfully dry through rain events) and cooled down pretty well at night. Well appointed, clean cooking supplies served us perfectly as we made many of our meals on site. The common spaces of the camping zone are pleasant and good for a variety of activities and suitable for kids. Not too many other sites on property and they are well-spaced. Clean restrooms!
