If you are a winter visitor, plenty of ski resorts are a little over an hour away like Stratton, Bromely, Okemo, or Killington to name a few.
Come by and visit us down the road at Slateville Farm to enjoy our fresh produce/eggs, over 8 miles of private hiking trails, and numerous swimming holes. Firewood is included and stocked at the Pit outside the Cabin.

acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a
2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains.
500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time.
Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land.
Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site.
There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail
and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has
trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing,
Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful.
We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet.
There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city.
Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. Links and information can be provided to campers that stay with us that are looking for entertainment & excursions.

7 nights at The Deer Crib at Flat Rock Farm
This is a beautiful, quiet place. You can sit out under an apple tree on soft grass and listen to woodpeckers and owls and watch rabbits and chipmunks. You can go hours without really hearing another human sound. The cabin has gas lamps which give it a wonderful glow at night. There's as much firewood as you want. You can walk right down into Tibbits State Forest and do a five mile loop -- I did it three times and never met another soul.
A little prep helps. The cabin had a small generator but you wouldn't want or be able to run it constantly, so prepare to run off battery packs. Regular cell signal is weak and intermittent. There's not a lot of nearby grocery options so stock up before you arrive, and of course there's no fridge (I took a cooler of ice). If you're looking to disconnect and live like a monk for a bit, it's everything you want.
Marlene and Craig were excellent hosts, friendly, accommodating, and responsive. I was very grateful and happy to be there.

Weekend Trip to Camp TedRock Adirondack Retreat
Found this spot doing some last minute planning for the fourth of July. The property is secluded yet still a short drive into town. There is a cabin for sleeping and a separate cabin for cooking with ladies bathroom. The host has another building in progress for a shower! Great basecamp for hiking trips, nearby swimming holes and the Chestertown challenge trails.

We had such an amazing stay at Rita's land! The riverside campsite was absolutely beautiful, with a calm river just steps away for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and relaxing on the floating mats. Everything was so thoughtfully set up that we never felt the need to leave the property.
The campsite was clean, private, and had everything we needed. Our dogs loved being able to enjoy the open space, and our favorite part was ending each day by the fire pit, watching the stars over the river. It was peaceful, relaxing, and exactly the getaway we were hoping for.
You can tell Rita has put so much thought into creating a welcoming experience. We left feeling refreshed and already talking about our next visit. We can't wait to come back and would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful, well-equipped riverside getaway!

Weekend Trip to Cherry Plain Sanctuary Farm
Super cool and BEAUTIFUL. The energy at the farm is nurturing and peaceful. Jules had the TeePee all set up for us. Extra blankets and lots of wood for a fire.
We enjoyed the animals and walking the property.
Felt safe and comfortable. We will return and would highly recommend.

Even the consistent rain couldn’t take away from the beauty of these private little homes in the woods. Bonnie is amazingly accommodating and took great care to assure we had the right space. We will definitely come back in the future!!

Weekend Trip to Escape...to Mariaville Goat Farm!
Ed and Rick have made nothing short of magic on their property! They have truly thought of everything for your stay. You are off grid but they provide you with everything you could need. If you have ever wanted to live out your childhood dream of going to never never land for a weekend.....this is your place! Be sure to take the goats for a walk in the woods, especially if your into the art installments like I was! There is art hidden EVERYWHERE! This is a place to slow down, wander, and enjoy the whimsy. My soul needed this weekend! I can't wait to return in the fall with my girlfriends!

Weekend Trip to Cherry Plain Sanctuary Farm
I loved spending the night at this property. Tipi camping with views of horses and goats. Very off grid. No electricity or running water and a composting toilet. I just sat most of the day watching the animals and enjoying an outside fire pit. I was traveling alone and felt very safe. Nice to just be out in nature for one night. There was a local restaurant nearby if you didn't want to cook on the fire, that was very reasonable. Jules the host was friendly
and welcoming. Would go back again.

I had three perfect nights at Cotton Hill! The campsite had everything I needed, with many beautiful touches-- fresh flowers, s'more ingredients, cozy blankets, etc etc. I slept soundly on the comfortable bed, made simple delicious meals over the fire and the toilet was comfortable and clean! I walked around the property, swam in the pond, took day hikes, and did a tour of Hope Cavern. Mostly I stayed at the campsite soaking in the breeze and watching the clouds. The tent even withstood a sudden storm burst without a problem! Heidi was available if I needed, but I was content on my own the whole time. I highly recommend this peaceful and beautiful spot!

I loved camping on Bonnie's land. The Runamuck cabin that I stayed in was absolutely gorgeous. The view was beautiful, and it was so thoughtful how she provided freshwater, a cooking stove and fuel, coffee, and a little table with coffee cups and flatware. I felt safe and peaceful. I would absolutely stay here again.

The Hilltop Glampsite is such a peaceful getaway! The view is absolutely gorgeous and the nearby pond is delightful. Plus, the camp site is thoughtfully stocked with everything needed for a comfortable stay. I’m looking forward to coming back!

3 nights at Cherry Plain Sanctuary Farm
We loved camping at Cherry Plain! The teepee was spacious and extremely cool and the surrounding area was beautiful: trails leading into a fern-filled forest, horses and goats grazing in big pastures, a state park ten minutes away with a pretty pond to lay by. Jules and Jerome were very gracious and kind to us. Great hosts :) bring more blankets than you think though—the nights get cold! Julie provided us with some extra blankets. The site also had plenty of firewood and water provided.

Weekend Trip to Timbertrail Farm
Me and my friend stayed there in the little cabin as we had such a lovely time!! The bed is comfortable and the nature is beautiful there. Mike was a great host, and we had the opportunity to check out the barn as well, that place is beautiful too!!

I loved our stay from the moment we got there until the very end! We were greeted by two of Kim's dogs that guided us right to pocket corner cabin. Kim brought us up firewood and water to douse the campfire. The little cabin itself was nice, the door was secure so we could contain our pups at night, you can open the windows to listen to the night sounds and it had cute quirky decor with comfy mattresses.
I absolutely loved interacting with the alpacas, chickens and even the turkey once I realized that he wasn't trying to kill me and just trying to say hello. LOL Little big guy is quite a character but then so are some of her roosters, especially Adolf. Overall there was plenty of space to move around and explore, Kim was the perfect host, available for any questions or help that we needed but not obtrusive. She invited us into her life allowing me to help feed the animals and I cannot wait to go back!

We loved Mike's barn. He was a tremendous help with the wood fired pizza oven. I had never used one before. We had a great time. I wish we had 2 nights there. We brought sleeping bags and were glad because it did get cool even in May. If you like rustic and can light a wood stove you'll like it. My fire wood was too long and Mike cut it for me. Thanks Mike!
