There have been cougar, bear, and elk sightings, so please don’t leave food out and be careful! Although Short Sands Beach / Oswald State Park is close, it’s not really walkable. However, it is only two miles South on Hwy 101 to the parking lots from our gate. Most of the campsites are about a mile up the hill from our main entrance. So a total of about 3 miles to Shorty’s. Fair warning: All of these sites are great for car camping and not great for tent camping. There is lots of rocks and not a lot of grass padding. Lastly; there are no bathrooms! Please make sure you bring your own bathroom! If we find any messes left we do charge a $250 fine. Thank you for for helping us keep our sites beautiful and safe for all!

This is their address . 3904 Tillamook River Road. Please be careful when using Google maps, for whatever reason it has taken several people to other places other than mine. I posted a picture of the entrance of my property, hopefully this will help. Hurlys Hideaway is a very nice location located approximately 2 miles from the town of Tillamook. Very close to the beach Sand Lake various Rivers for fishing kayaking swimming Etc. Approximately 4 MI from Netarts Oceanside area, Netarts Bay, Cape Mears. A very nice location to be able to access all of these activities in Tillamook County. My land is Timber, some clearings, we'll see how this goes I'm just getting started. Also, I just learned that the transient tax for Tillamook Oregon is an additional 10% and I hate to do this but I'm going to have to raise my prices $5. If you are coming from Town, I'm 2 mi. from the hospital west on hwy. 131. Look for the purple Minnesota Vikings bus shack. I also put up a hipcamp sign just up my driveway a bit. If you are coming from the south on Fraiser road, turn right when you come to hwy. 131. I'm less than a quarter mile on your left. Also a heads up lately I've had a few people that are having a hard time booking and I learned from another camper if you're staying one night you actually have to select two days it includes the day you check out I just experienced that with another camper so just a bit information I don't know if hip camp changed something or what, but if you're staying one night select two days and it'll work.

20 years ago James and Patricia purchased land that had been logged multiple time, and built a house to raise a family, and watch the forest regrow. James loves trains and this area had a logging operation in the early 1900's that included railroads, donkey engines and logging camps in the area. In the 1980's several 10 to 20 acre parcels were sold to people who wanted a piece of the country life. James and Patricia now live on one of those parcels and look forward to the next generation enjoying the country life. When James and Patricia bought the property, the previous owner had cut down most of the trees and would mow most of the land. The land was allowed to recover with alder being the first forest which replenished the soil. In a few areas scotch broom (invasive plants) took hold. Not wanting to use toxic chemicals that could leach into the water supply getting rid of scotch broom was a challenge but now there is large meadow with baby Christmas trees growing (marked by the red flags). In many other places douglas fir has planted itself along with new cedar trees. There is beautiful undergrowth that includes thimble berry, Oregon grape, candy stripe and many other wild plants. There is red huckleberry growing in various places and makes a great snack when they are ripe. Speaking of wild, there is a lot wildlife here. Several species of birds live here including family of humming birds. Sometimes you will see grouse, geese, ducks, swallows, red tail hawks, even a glimpse of a bald eagle. There are wild bunnies, gardener snakes, frogs, salamanders. If you go along the trails you might see signs of deer or coyote. There are currently chickens that live near the garage and garden (that's why dogs must be on leash). Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent in a shady meadow next to a small pond. Enjoy the serenity and the coastal mountain breezes flowing through the tree tops. There are hiking trails through forest land. Wake in the morning to birds singing, and fall asleep to the frogs in the pond. Clear nights and you can see a lot of stars. During the right season there are blackberries, red huckleberries and thimble berries. The Banks-Vernonia Linear trail State park and LL Stub Stewart are both near this beautiful little space.

Powder Creek Ranch is 362 acres, nestled into a valley, surrounded by forest in the Oregon Coast Range. The campground is in a secluded meadow next to Powder Creek, a pristine year round stream, perfect for wading and playing in. If you're looking to unplug and escape from the chaos of city life, we are all about peace and quiet and connecting with nature. Each of our 13 extra large campsites offers access to the creek, a picnic table and campfire ring. All sites accommodate RVs as well as tent camping. No hook-ups or potable water available. There are seven (7) creek side sites, one site next to a pond and all have ample space around them so you don't feel crowded. Our newest addition is a cabin overlooking Powder Creek, tucked away by itself. Solar powered. The Ranch has 1/2 mile of Nestucca River frontage where you can swim or fish, whichever floats your boat. Niagara Creek/Pheasant Creek falls is a nearby hiking trail and there are roads as well as deer and elk trails to explore all over the ranch. If you feel like venturing further, the beach is 23 miles away in Pacific City. Tillamook is 25 miles. We also offer pasture raised pork for sale. A variety of sausages (breakfast, chorizo, Italian, Bratwurst and French Garlic links) and pork chops.

This was an awesome spot for a campervan setup — the views up the coast were insane. You could see from the beach at Arch Cape all the way up to Haystack Rock and to Tillamook Head. Totally stunning. Watching sunset/sunrise from our van up there was so special. Lots of sign of elk but we only saw one lone guy across the next little valley from us. The road was about the same “roughness” as a standard forest service road - nothing crazy. Just rocky and steep. Our AWD Transit made it just fine. We were there as the weather transitioned from dry, warm, sunny to fog and mist - and the winds up there were pretty dramatic that night given how exposed it is. Something to keep in mind if you were to tent camp! All in all, a super special place and we were so happy to have had the experience. We’ll be back!

It was a wonderful place to bring the grandkids! They want to come back. It's beautiful and tree filled and right by the river. The "guard" chickens are so entertaining. And "Butters" the cat is angelic. The cabin and camp space are well appointed. We loved the outdoor kitchen and fire ring. The hosts are very pleasant and accommodating and they've anticipated everything. We definitely hope to return.

About

Lush forest trails and sweeping headlands lead the way to cliff-top lookout points and sandy shores in the Oswald West State Park. Beach-goers can head straight to Short Sand Beach—or ‘Shorty’s’ as it’s known to locals—to hit the surf, stroll the secluded sands, or explore the tidepools. Hikers have miles of trails to explore, too, including a 13-mile section of the Oregon Coast Trail. Hike to Blumenthal Falls, admire the views from Neahkahnie Mountain and Cape Falcon, or enjoy bird-watching along Short Sand Creek. There’s no camping in the park, but campers have options along the coast.

When to go

Oswald West State Park is accessible year-round, but the most popular time to visit is from June through September. The surf is gentle enough for beginners in the summer months (winter swells can be dangerous), but expect big crowds—get there early to snag a parking spot. Late spring and early autumn are ideal for hikers, and the Oregon Coast Trail affords stunning views of the park’s spring wildflowers and fall foliage.

Know before you go

Oswald West State Park is located 10 miles south of Cannon Beach, or about a 10-minute drive along Highway 101. You’ll need your own vehicle to get to the park, as there’s no public transport, and there are four free parking lots at the trailheads.
Facilities within the park include restrooms, picnic tables, and drinking water fountains, but you’ll need to bring everything else with you. There are shops and restaurants within a 10-minute drive, or head to Cannon Beach to stock up on supplies.
The park has ADA restrooms, and the Neahkahnie Mountain viewpoint is wheelchair accessible.
