I loved staying the Elk Moon yurt with my Bestie! We loved the tranquility and complete silence, aside from the birds in the early morning hours. The yurt was neat and tidy with a little attached porch with table and two chairs. we had a little propane stove and tea kettle, cooking and eating utensils, (forks, pots /pans/bowls/plates) and soap for washing and drying rack.
The land was grassy with views of mountains, and we chose to stay during a recent new moon so there were stars everywhere!!! We played pickle ball (no court, just hitting with paddles back and forth!) and lied on our backs to watch the stars. We heard coyotes at some point in the night but there is a real door on the yurt that locks so we felt safe.
The land owners were hands off and did not visit but were good about replying to any messages.
Texting and calling was possible but internet browsing/social media was not. So we played games and talked and enjoyed the peace and quiet and the awesome views and weather! It cooled off at night and the heat built pretty quickly into the morning.
Great stay! We would recommend it to friends for sure. :)

Loved staying here, very nice and cozy yurt with great views. Wood stove worked well when it got a bit chilly at night. The yurt stayed comfortable during the day as well, nice and bright inside. Would stay again!

The yurt was truly magical. Beautiful with breathtaking views on Mt Hood! My kids and I had a beautiful time there and Janna was very accommodating, instructions were really clear. It felt very simple being out there and yet so special!

We had a wonderful stay at this yurt. It is about as close as you can get to the West side of the Portland Metro area while still feeling like you are far away. A beautiful spot with a short drive to some great coast range hikes (we did the Elk Mountain/Kings Mountain loop). I would highly recommend this spot to others!

We had such a wonderful stay at Elk Moon! The little wood fire stove was so so cozy, and we got to listen to multiple owls hoot throughout the night, it was truly magical!

I enjoyed the indoor sofa for two, coffee table , and a table for cooking standing up. Compost restroom was clean. A ladder was in the yurt to safely take down and put up the plastic screens. My Ford hatchback car did well in the 2-4 mile dry gravel road up to site. However, my car would not do well in the gravel road with rainy or snowy conditions. I would certainly return. Thanks for sharing your land.

The yurt is gorgeous! So cozy and welcoming. Even with the hot weather for August, the temperature was comfortable. Love that there were games and lanterns. The outhouse was clean and easy to use. Complete privacy and pretty sunset vibes was perfect.

We loved Janna’s yurt, everything was clean and had everything we needed. The yurt was pretty hot but easy to cool off with the zip windows. The area was near their farm but felt private, really nice spot

Absolutely perfect! The yurt was so adorable and very comfortable. The bed had plenty of blankets and pillows. The stove worked great and the kitchen was stoked with plenty of cookware/utensils. The books and games were also a lovely touch - we had so much fun playing the games and flipping through the books.

what a beautiful, serene and magical place to retreat to! the sunsets were DIVINE. and I fell asleep to the sound of an owl perched on top of the elk moon yurt. so grateful for the opportunity to stay at elk moon!

This spot was awesome. The yurt was super comfy and had all the basics. Woke up to insane mountain views and crashed under a sky full of stars. Felt tucked away but not too far from stuff. The nature sounds were cool. I’d for sure come back.

It was a beautiful and peaceful stay. The well stocked wood stove is amazing. Bed is clean and cozy. Plenty of birdsong and bird sightings. Great location, near Henry Hagg Lake. I would wholeheartedly recommend unless you are attached to the "overlooking mountain" part of the listing. Near the yurt there is now a dense, young stand of fir forest blocking most of the view, including the mountains. You would have to bushwhack to glimpse them. A lot of the pictures are at least 7 years old and the yurt is no longer "perched in a open clearing above the forest". Still an enjoyable time.

It had everything you need and super cute! It was easy to find and clear instructions for everything. There were a couple battery lanterns, but I wish there had been a little more light available. Maybe bring your own lantern if you also want more light at night!

An absolutely beautiful location and beautiful lodge, with breathtaking views and helpful basic amenities that made the whole experience feel absolutely cozy. This yurt is on top of one of the ridges of the Wilmette valley affording near three-sixty degree views of all the mountains. There was at least one review before mine that mentioned the trees blocking the view. And although the trees have grown in it by no means detracks from the view or how awesome it feels to be on top of a mountain in a lush forest with the mists surrounding you in the morning, an absolute quiet at night. If you want to see the mountains clearly you can walk to the main road and they'll all be there in glorious sight.
There was also mentioned by a previous reviewer about highway noise and I didn't notice any highway sounds, except for the very morning that I checked out and even then it was so low decibel. I'm surprised that anybody mentioned it. And I am a very, very light sleeper. (I travel with ear plugs though).
The yurt warms up quick with the wood stove and even though my stay was in the winter, when the sun broke out the next day the yurt got too warm. So build your stove fire with that in mind. It stays warm through most of the night too.
Loved the vibe, comfy bed and how civilization wasn't far- highly recommend soaking in the Japanese pool at the Grand Lodge in Forest Grove or enjoying the cigar bar/patio there if you're into that.

I spent a solo New Year’s Eve at this lovely place and it was just far enough away from Portland without me having to go all the way out to the coast. Accommodation was lovely and the pre setup camp stove and dishes were a lovely bonus!

This Yurt experience is special. I loved how isolated in nature it felt, while only being 30 min from Portland. There were deer in the road on the way up to the yurt, the nighttime rain was relaxing, and the woodfire stove kept the space nice and toasty. I took Janna's advice and booked a soak at the Grand Lodge, which was the cherry on top for a solo getaway.
I'd love to come back in the future!
