My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Jacob's Riverside Gem! It's rustic enough to feel adventurous and homey enough to feel warm and comfy in the winter. It's obvious that Jacob has put a lot of heart and soul into this little cabin because of all the artistic touches you will find throughout. The firewood was well stocked, the property was beautiful with many fresh fungi to observe, and the little kitchen was perfect for making delicious meals. The fridge is quite small with no freezer, so if you want to bring fresh food for cooking, I recommend bringing a cooler. The shower is not far from the cabin, so it's easy to get a hot shower in and run back inside to the warm cabin. Make sure to bring your own bath towel. The bathroom is farther from the cabin, but I enjoyed the walk there, especially at night when I could look at the stars.
We didn't get to enjoy the outdoor space very much, seeing as we visited in winter, but we definitely want to come back in the summer to enjoy all that this little cabin and the Smith River area has to offer. If you're looking for a quaint place to stay while adventuring in the area, you've found the right place!

Large area to work with. Also, warm showers on the river have an absolutely gorgeous view of the river. However, it is outside and you can see the highway from the shower… meaning the highway can see you. There could be better paths and signage to follow, but once you get a gist of the area it’s very easy to find everything. The hosts are very accommodating. They had an employee drop of the firewood we purchased from the camp store. Also there was a full community kitchen that came in handy for things we forgot. We just washed them all and put them back when we were done.

Great place - I went in the off season so was pretty empty. But right next to boat launch area. Warm showers and bathrooms short walk from area. Great place even for tent camping. Host was super helpful when I didn’t follow the directions well in the rain.

The campground was very secluded while still being in a very convenient location (laundry and trash very close by!). You’re right next to a trail and the nature views were gorgeous! Just remember to bring your bug spray, lol!

Patti is the best! So responsive, kind and welcoming. The space is beautiful too, with big trees and the river near by. It was about 20 to get to the Newton B scenic Road. Don’t miss it!
Traveled with our dog and 21’ travel trailer. No issues with access. Do note there are skunks around at night; they keep mole and voles populations down and are a part of the community too- just be aware. Also saw a few curios big neighbor dogs when we walked our pup up along the service road by the park in the morning. No trouble though.
Had a great experience and would certainly stay again if we return. Thanks again Patti 🙏

The campground was amazing! It was just as beautiful as the pictures and had great amenities. The showers and game room were perfect. We didn't spend much time at the campground itself because there were so many beautiful hikes and things to see around the area. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Patrick and Maya are so great! Check in was super smooth and they even upgraded us to a better RV cause of some technical difficulties. The campground was private, cute, and nicely maintained. If we come back around to the area we would definitely camp there again. Also, the hiking trails are well kept and they had Starlink for speedy WiFi.

We loved our stay here!! The land is absolutely gorgeous, being right in the Redwoods and literally around the corner from the Trees of Mystery. The hosts, Patrick and Maya, were the sweetest humans and so much fun to chat with! They have a stocked camp store, a game room with tons of books, and ping pong and such, and a ton of cool Redwood trees and tree stumps scattered throughout the camp. Our tent site, #16, was just inside the forest but felt very private on the other side of the trees from the RVs. We are really looking forward to paying them another visit!

I absolutely love this Hipcamp! It's so private (you have your own driveway and gate) and feels very safe. Surrounded by trees and farmland. Lots of cute little amenities to enjoy while there. The ground is level enough that you can just pull right in and set up. The host is very kind and responsive. Also, I think there's an owl that lives here, and he was a joy to listen to. Highly recommend.

Stayed in one of the A-frames with my two small dogs for a weekend and had a lovely time. It was a stormy, rainy couple of days in October, so I didn’t get to explore the property or surrounding area much, but that ended up being perfect since I had just come to relax anyway. Once I got set up inside (with some string lights, a hot water bottle, and a good book), it felt nice and cozy. I was glad to have brought the hot water bottle and a couple of extra blankets, b/c the temps inside were roughly the same as they were outside.
The transparent panels make it feel like you’re sleeping among the trees, and the sound of rain on the roof was wonderful. The roof is corrugated steel, so the first time an acorn pinged off it I just about jumped out of my skin, but we got used to it quickly. Ultimately I think those noises were part of the charm. Saw some beautiful deer and lots of wild turkeys.
As a woman camping solo, I felt very safe. The property isn’t completely remote (it’s tucked next to a neighborhood and there’s a private residence onsite) but it still has a peaceful, wilderness feel, especially in late October when there were fewer visitors.
For anyone curious (since I couldn’t find this info beforehand), each A-frame has its own fire ring and picnic table.

This little camper checks all the boxes: Quiet, private, clean, solid roof to keep you dry and warm, SUPER comfy bed, and the softest sheets. If you want the campground experience without the camping then look no further. Birdie is low frills, but has everything you need. Yes, you can hear the 101 during the day, but it's pretty much dead silent at night (the campground has electric hook-ups so you won't hear generators running). It's beautiful, there's a redwood to greet you in the morning...what more could you want!

About
A short jaunt inland from the Southern Oregon beach community of Brookings and just north of the California border, Alfred A. Loeb State Park—commonly shortened to "Loeb"—has long been a popular spot for fishing, family camping vacations, and just relaxing among the centuries-old myrtlewood trees that dominate the landscape. Alfred A. Loeb Campground features electrical sites with water and easy river access, plus three rustic log cabins, showers, and reservable picnic areas. Loeb is also a good jumping-off point for the 1.1-mile-long Redwood Nature Trail, the northernmost redwood trail in the country.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Campsites at Loeb are available on a first-come, first-served basis from October through April and all but five are available by reservation from May through September.
- Reservations open up six months in advance and can be made up to one day in advance on the Oregon State Parks website or over the phone.
- Same-day campsites can only be booked in person and are released on a first-come, first-served basis.
When to go
Loeb is open year-round, but wet and cool weather keeps the crowds out through much of the year. The most popular months are July and August, when the weather is warm and dry, though things can stay pleasant into October. Springtime is also an option, though if you come before Memorial Day weekend, you're likely to experience at least some rainfall.
Know before you go
- The closest major town for groceries and supplies is Brookings, about a 15-minute drive away. Firewood is available for purchase in the park.
- Fishing is available on-site at the Chetco River, but you'll need to secure a license ahead of time.
- Bans on campfires and the use of open flames are common during the summer months, when fire risk is at its highest. During periods of extreme danger, the use of camping stoves is also prohibited.
- The park has one accessible cabin, one accessible campsite, and accessible flush toilets.

This place skewed heavily towards the RV crowd, which made it seem like a ghost town at night. The sites themselves did not have a ton of privacy, but we were in the first site to the left as you enter which was better than most. There is a nice trail down to the river, which would be great for swimming had the weather been warmer, and the bathrooms are clean and well-maintained.

Love this campground and have been family camping there for 20 years. The last 3 summers have not been the same. They do not accomidations for large families, which may make alittle noise after dinner. As a matter of fact, we were pretty much harassed by the camp host and then by the Ranger, who hid in the bushes (I SWEAR) and waited for someone to laugh so he could step right back out and "warn" us again. He told us to use library voices!! Wouldn't you laugh? Anyway they used to greet us by name every year and now we get warned. FYI we family camp. With soda.
