We just loved this place!! It is so magical! My 7 year old is sure fairies live there 🧚 Jacob has really cultivated a wonderful and peaceful spot and put so much thought and craftsmanship into it! Having a private swimming spot to ourselves on the river was such a joy, and the cabin itself was a dream. Our every need was met, showering outside was amazing, the porch view with the sound of the river and the crickets and the stars are something I’ll take with me forever. My dad and daughter stayed in the cabin and I pitched a tent out back. It was the perfect set up. Close to redwood national and state parks, too. We loved it and hope to be back soon!!

We loved this place! Highlights were the location overlooking the river, your very own private swimming area, the privacy, and the space. It was kind of like glamping, with the shower outdoors and having to walk a little ways to the port-o-potty toilet. But also so much better than your average glamping because you don’t have to deal with anybody at all! The property is conveniently located off the highway and close to a convenience store where you can buy some basic items. You do hear the highway, as it is just across the river. But it’s not too bothersome. We spent four nights but would have been happy to stay longer. Definitely not for anyone with mobility challenges or kiddos that aren’t old enough to follow safety precautions. Hope to come back someday!

Cool spot, exactly the kind of place I enjoy staying. Access to the river made it nice to end the day with a dip, although it does take some concentration to get down there. As others have said, a small walk to the porta potty to use the restroom. Has a mini fridge, stove top and sink. Outdoor shower was nice.
There were some issues when I arrived but the host was willing to provide a partial refund due to the issues. Hopefully I'll be back again!

This was such a peaceful experience for us! The deck overlooking the river simply can't be beat. We enjoyed the wood stove which Jacob had provided plenty of wood and set it up to be ready to light. The bed upstairs in the loft was VERY comfortable and there was plenty of ventilation with the two windows. Jacob's home was easy to find and he was extremely responsive to us. Would absolutely stay here again.

Great and relaxing experience, gate was a little bit of a hassle to deal with each time we needed to leave and come back. Port-a potty wasn’t cleaned out before hand either and full of flies but besides that, we had a very relaxing evening by the river and would definitely come back if it was worked on more!

My husband and I enjoyed the river views and beautiful property so much! The cabin was stocked with everything we needed and felt very cozy - perfect for our getaway! We enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching/listening to the river every opportunity we got. Two things to note (not cons, just things we learned along the way!): the toilet is a bit of a walk across the yard, so make sure to head that way the second you realize it’s time to go! Secondly, the short trail down to the river was a little more challenging than expected, even for my husband who’s a fairly seasoned hiker. I would make sure you have a buddy before you head down! Otherwise, we had a whimsical stay and enjoyed our time, as well as Jacob’s accommodations, so very much!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Jacob's Riverside Gem! It's rustic enough to feel adventurous and homey enough to feel warm and comfy in the winter. It's obvious that Jacob has put a lot of heart and soul into this little cabin because of all the artistic touches you will find throughout. The firewood was well stocked, the property was beautiful with many fresh fungi to observe, and the little kitchen was perfect for making delicious meals. The fridge is quite small with no freezer, so if you want to bring fresh food for cooking, I recommend bringing a cooler. The shower is not far from the cabin, so it's easy to get a hot shower in and run back inside to the warm cabin. Make sure to bring your own bath towel. The bathroom is farther from the cabin, but I enjoyed the walk there, especially at night when I could look at the stars.
We didn't get to enjoy the outdoor space very much, seeing as we visited in winter, but we definitely want to come back in the summer to enjoy all that this little cabin and the Smith River area has to offer. If you're looking for a quaint place to stay while adventuring in the area, you've found the right place!

We had an awful experience here. Shows as sleeping six but doesn’t actually sleep six and when we asked about it the host told us that it sleeps six if two people slept in a car. I don’t know how that would classify as sleeping six. I don’t go to a hotel expecting to sleep in the parking lot, so I shouldn’t be expected to sleep in my car if the location says it sleeps six. Especially for the price. The toilet is an outhouse that was filled with cobwebs and spiders that hasn’t been emptied in months so the smell was months worth of stale pee and poop. The ladder to get up to the loft that has the only is a metal ladder that you’re not allowed to wear shoes on so it hurts the bottoms of your feet. There’s no airflow either so if you want to keep a pet in there since it’s pet friendly, they’ll have a hard time breathing. The host was not friendly when talking to him and told us that we need to have lower expectations. Definitely would never come back or rent through this host.

Jacob has really put in a labor of love on this land to help his guests, rest, reset and connect. Being able to take a shower outside and hike down and wade the waters of the river was unbelievable. It rained most of the time I was there so I didn't get to take advantage of the river much but the cabin was a cozy safe haven to cook dinner and brew my morning coffee in. I loved that I could camp there and then drive 25minutes and be hiking in the Jedidiah Smith Redwoods area. Close enough off the 101 you can really use it as a stop like I did however I can see how staying longer would mean even more glory along the river.
The cons are I found some metal scraps and screws on the ground walking around; just beware if you have kiddos. The hike down is well designed but it's definitely moderate and can be slippery. The ladder up the bed is not for the faint of heart!

Such a great gem and helpful host! I just needed a safe and secure place to hang with my dogs where I could close the gate and disappear. This place was perfect. The lil studio was clean and comfy, and the swimming hole/river access at the bottom of the hill was perfectly isolated to give me the space and time I needed to slowly introduce my dogs to water activities. I definitely recommend!

Dreamy secluded spot on a stunning river edge. Simple unique cabin with everything you need to relax and unwind. We spent the entirety of our stay floating in the gorgeous Smith river and didn’t see one other person. Easy to get to but very hard to leave. It really was perfect. Thank you for having us and we hope to be back! Highly recommend.

This place truly is a Gem!! Loved being in nature and right on the Smith River and still having creature comforts like lights, cooking equipment, fridge, super comfy bed and a hot shower! This place is perfect for anyone seeking a cozy glamping experience :) The river really was the best part for me, I swam in it multiple times every day, the swimming spot is so perfect. Bring water shoes/Tevas, something of the soft if your feet are sensitive with rocks like mine are and you’ll be super comfy walking down to and into the water. Location is a great home base for Redwoods, Crescent City and Brookings, so many awesome hikes within a short drive. Looking forward to coming back and staying again! 11 out of 10!

Absolutely primo private river spot. We stayed down there til dark and then watched the bats hunt. My only gripe is it’s quite hot upstairs for sleeping. A fan would have really helped. Also a sheet to put down on the futon because it was too hot to sleep on a blanket. Really cute little place!

Nice and pretty swimming hole, place had just enough amenities to make it comfy and easy. Good location, close to redwoods and the coast. There is a lot of traffic noise-- I camped in the clearing above the cabin. I was surprised to pay extra to bring a dog, but maybe that's typical for HipCamp? Jacob was kind and easy to communicate with. Thank you!

My family stayed here for two nights and truly enjoyed the experience. The queen sized bed in the loft was really comfortable and my son said the futon was nice, as well. The kitchen had all the essentials, but I would recommend a cooler for food and drink overflow. The mini fridge works well, but is tiny. The home runs on solar power so don't plan on plugging in tons of stuff for long... but being unplugged is what we wanted. The house cools off nicely in the evening with the windows open and there is plenty of shade in the yard, which includes a hammock and picnic table. The highway is on the other side of the river and produces some road noise but the sound of the river helps to drown it out. The privacy is by far this gems best feature. Not a soul in sight! The yard is fully fenced, as well, for the fur babies. The trail to the river was steeper than anticipated, so we quickly learned to wear something besides flip-flops for an easier climb back up. It is the perfect private swimming hole if you dare the cold water, which we did! We had the best time swimming, skipping rocks, and looking for all kinds of little creatures like frogs, lizards, and crayfish. We even saw a bald eagle fly down! There are also a couple of small fruit trees on the property and we tried what was probably the best plum known to anyone ever. Thank you for sharing your tiny home, Jacob!

A peaceful spot with a wonderful private beach on the river. I spent hours on a hot July afternoon floating in the calm waters. Jacob was responsive and accommodating throughout the booking and when we had a question upon arrival. Beds are comfortable and the dog enjoyed having freedom and splashing in the water. I'd highly recommend this tiny house.

Loved staying in Jacob’s cabin. We spent most of the days in the river. The swimming area in front of the cabin is about chest depth at the deepest, there is a nice eddy that slowly takes you upstream to the riffle then deposits you in the gentle current to float back in front of the cabin. With swim goggles we were able to find crawdads, fire-belly newts, and you can observe young trout swimming upstream pretty much all day long. My daughter wore a spring suit that helped her play for extended periods without getting too cold. Otherwise I felt the other reviews were helpful to prepare. Hot shower is really nice. Fridge is small but sufficient for short stays - a normal carton of milk doesn’t fit upright so bring bottles that you can lay on their sides. Cabin was clean, has nice personal touches. I want to know the name of the wave in picture above the sliding glass door.

You can feel the love and hard work Jacob has put into this cabin. My crew let the Smith river lull us to sleep and woke up with a river plunge in the morning. It truly is a gem of a spot. Port-a-potty is a tiny walk if you have people in your party that wake up at night. We loved our stay and bookmarking it for when we are back that way!

Unbelievable views of the river with an incredible private swimming spot. The cabin is well equipped, and the outdoor shower was really nice. The Porta potty is a little bit away from the cabin, but was very clean. The host was incredibly friendly and responsive. I highly recommend the spot! We did not sleep in the bed, but opted to sleep in our teardrop trailer near the cabin, which was no problem at all. Easy pull in and out through a very wide gate.

This spot is as beautiful as the pictures show. The porta potty is located in the upper field, a few mins from where the tiny home is. Jacob provided good directions so it was easy to find. The tiny home is small but suited myself and my friend well. The 2 burner stove and fridge worked well for our food needs.
The ladder to the loft is leaning against the loft, and not attached to anything. My friend and I both did not feel comfortable sleeping up there, concerned about needing to pee in the night and falling. We slept on the pull out futon which was sufficient.
The hot water worked for 1 shower, but not for 2nd shower we attempted. the propane tank seemed either rusted shut (even though we been able to close and open it the previous night), or out of propane.
The view was wonderful, just know that the services are a little rustic.

Riverside Gem is truly a jewel. Overlooking a beautiful segment of the Smith River, private, close to Jedediah Smith Redwoods and surrounded by beautiful nature. Cabin is minimalist and tidy, bed is comfy, portapotty is clean. The ladder to the sleeping loft is a bit uncomfortable to use and there’s poison oak around. We would come back.

River, quiet cabin, hammock, lots of space for the dogs to be dogs- what more could one want?! I’d live there if I could. Clean and comfortable. Do yourself a favor and book yourself an extra night. You won’t regret it.
