My wife and I brought some friends who wanted to try camping for the first time. We found this property, and it was perfect for our needs! Spacious and beautiful! The pond is a nice touch!
Yin (the host) is very accommodating, friendly, and responsive; and even went above and beyond to accommodate our group's needs!
Our friends had a wonderful first experience camping, and we can thank Zen Rose for playing a major role in that! THANK YOU!

Great spot! Kids loved the frog pond! Lots of firewood all around kept the campfire rollin. Very close to multiple lake and ocean access points. Great pier for shore fishing at Joemma beach.

We really enjoyed our trip to zen rose! Lovely campsite and the portapotty was very very clean. There was a lot of space to set up and spread out. Yin was very responsive and ensured our group had instructions as the entrance is a bit tricky to find. There were quite a few mosquitos so make sure to bring some insect repellent!

Zen Rose Camp was a really beautiful place to camp. Yin was very communicative and helpful. The covered cooking area was a nice bonus, but we didn't use it as we camped in the site furthest away from it. The trees provided a nice cover from the rain, but it didn't rain at all! Fortunately, we had the place to ourselves (aside from the neighbor which I'll talk about later). However, it may have been awkward to camp there if there were strangers in the other sites because there wouldn't have been much, if any, privacy. The sites feel like they are deep in the woods, yet it's not far off of the highway. The proximity to the 2 state parks in the area was a nice way to get away and do something else and be close to the water. The pond is more like a swamp but it was cool going down there and hearing the cute little frog noises as they escaped into the water. Be careful going to the pond, as the handrail has seen better days and there's a metal bar sticking up out of the bottom step. The map shows that there's a lake nearby but we weren't able to find or access it. It does have 2 bathroom options. One is an outhouse type vault toilet and the other has a real toilet. To flush the toilet, Yin told us to get a half bucket of water from the pond and pour directly into the bowl, which did work but was a bit unnerving not knowing if we accidentally picked up a critter or bug from the pond and poured it into the toilet (luckily, I think all of the living things stayed in the pond).

Yin is great at communication and helpful with questions. The campground is among lovely tall trees. Bird and coyotes! It rained more than expected, so it was great to have the place to ourselves. We set up next to the picnic shelter and put our camping kitchen right next to the picnic table. Loved being right in between Joemma and Penrose parks!
I quickly got the sense that the host was not around locally, or had backed off maintenance/service since summer. Here are things I didn’t expect based on past reviews:
The lights in the shelter didn’t work (overhead one did nothing, and the solar-powered string lights would turn on if you pushed the button, but would turn off after a minute; suggest putting them on electricity but adding a timer so they shut-off after 2 hours).
The flush toilet bathroom was in major disrepair. Host noted that the previous guests had left it in bad shape. But then didn’t address it? I’d expected it to be reasonably clean and usable, with the water tank filled at the start of a stay. We used the pit toilet, which was ok as we are used to vault toilets (toilet seat and lid need a cleaning badly).
The pond/“spring” water was not usable. We got some to use in our instant hot water heater shower, but there was too much sediment/stuff, so we got water in 5-gallon water jugs at the state park.
The site is next to a large lot with cars, trucks, trailers, a bus, and heavy equipment, sometimes loud (incl. a paintball fight?).

The camping area was clean and all the tent spots were nice and level. Fire pits were well maintained and there was tons of dry wood for campfires. There was also a nice covered picnic table area. The little frog pond was a favorite for my girls. It did feel a little close to the neighbors when they were out in their back yard and the dogs barked a little but all in all a great stay! So close to home we would consider coming again!

Zen Rose Camp
Zen Rose campground is set up nicely to enjoy the wilderness without being too far from taking a day trip to go to Seattle or Bremerton. I do wish that the lights in the bathroom and the covered picnic area worked so we could use them at night, but we thankfully had our own lighting to make do.
We did have an Alder tree top break out and block the access road out on our last night and we had to clean it up the next morning before we had to leave. I'm glad I brought a chainsaw camping! They may want to hire an arborist to clean up some dead wood in the trees for the future though.
Overall, I'd still stay there again.

Lots of space and just good old fashioned outdoors. Bathrooms are rustic but functional. Nice covered area with table and area to set up a camp stove. Fun extra with the camp fire supplies.

We enjoyed renting all of the sites of Zen Rose with a total of 4 families including 7 kids and 3 dogs!
Highlights:
- frog pond with loads of frogs to ogle
- two toilets (rugged but fine)
- fully private (nobody else nearby at all)
- almost full tree cover, so even in near 90 degrees, the stay was enjoyable
- cute covered area, with picnic table, another table for your grill (bring your gas grill!), and solar-powered string lights that come on at night
- dogs can be off leash!
- kids can be off leash!
- great for building community for our group, with the central covered area
Things to note:
- one toilet is an outhouse, one is flush but requires water poured into the bowl if the water tank outside is empty
- no grass, some gravel, mostly just like forest ground
- no electricity or running water
- best for a group rental; we probably wouldn’t rent only one site

Very responsive host, gave great direction to the site and made very clear what facilities to expect. Spacious campsite plenty of firewood on site. Was amazing to camp in privacy and still feel totally safe camping as a single mom with my teenage daughter.

We had a great time at Yin's place. Very wide open and plenty of space for the 14 of us. We had 4 tents and there was enough room for us to all have some distance from each other. The pond was fun to see the frogs. Bring a net if you plan to try and catch them. Yin also left us some fire color changing packets that we forgot to use but love that they were there for us. Love the little kitchen table for our camp stove and all the chairs to use. Pit toilet was nice with a light inside and TP.
We decided to go to the Joemma beach state park which was only 8 minutes away. (Bring your discovery pass.
Otherwise the place was super easy to find and loved that I still had cell service (Verizon, Google fi, and Tmobile phones all had signal).
Yin was great at communicating and very helpful when I had questions.
Definitely would recommend.

Wonderful host and very communicative. We went over the fourth and has some noisy neighbors who hung out close to property, but if you rent the full property (highly recommend), you can navigate far enough away from them. Simply a lovely spot. The electrical outlets do not work fyi so don't plan on charging anything in the picnic shelter. (My bad!)

The site was nice, we booked the entire site and it was large. It was up against a couple backyards, one without a fence. You cannot access the lake that is super close, but there is a small pond if you need water (bring a filter). Coyotes kept me up all night, overall good experience with the host etc

As a student of nature and what it has to offer, I am definitely in a zen mode. That's what I wanted when I saw the name "Zen Rose".
As I sit here just listening to all the sounds of so many birds a woodpecker landed on a stump and had lunch right in front of me. Can't get much better than that. I even had time to get a nice video.

The space was so great! We booked the whole space and I’m so glad we did it was really nice having the privacy for our party. The cooking area was an incredible lifesaver since it rained for part of the day. We will absolutely stay there again.

Yin has a lovely, peaceful spot of land. It's a little close to civilization for the intrepid camper looking to truly escape into the forest, but it's adorable and quiet nonetheless. We stayed one night and enjoyed the fire pit and the sounds of the birds. Yin gave good directions and was responsive and kind. Thanks!

We were here very briefly, but it was very nice! The spots are spread out enough that it is no problem being there with other folks—you don’t feel right on top of one another. We loved the provided amenities, and the hostess was super great. We would stay again!

I had a blast, and more importantly so did my kids for their very first camping trip at 6 and 8 years old, it was quiet and serene and the usable utilities were an added bonus, plus the location was perfect for a quick last minute camping trip, and communication was perfect whenever I had a question. I highly recommend and will be booking reservations again very soon, thank you again so much ❤️
