In the lee of the Shenandoah National Park in Rappahannock County sits 200 acre Over Jordan Farm, home of Bean Hollow Grassfed, a grazing livestock operation that raises lamb, broilers, beef and pastured pork. It was the land of the Manahoacs, a Siouan-language Native American tribe. In 1734 it was part of 3,500 land grant and in early 19h century became Caledonia Farm, a property of the Dearing family. For the last 40+ years the farm has been owned by the Dietel family. As the stewards of this land we invite you to come meander down farm lanes, watch the wild turkeys forage, and, if you are lucky, see a red fox or wild bobcat. The views are Rappahannock's finest and the Appalachian trail is within walking distance (less than two miles up the "holler'' from the farm). Though only 70 miles from Washington DC, the County does not have a single stop light and dark skies abound. Upon crossing the Jordan River you will see a restored log cabin, our farm store, and a sandy beach with a swimming pond where guests may swim and picnic. The magic of this working landscape and its natural splendor soothes the soul. See new video just out on Over Jordan Farm and Bean Hollow Grassfed https://www.beanhollowgrassfed.com/.

We loved the campsite -- a beautiful view of fields and mountains, with lots of sheep and a few cattle grazing in the foreground. Betsy and Mike are very interesting and lovely people, and great hosts. Highly recommended!

Gorgeous!!!
We had such a great time visiting Betsy and Michael’s property. The views were soooo good!!! We really loved how we were the only ones camping there. We try and avoid places where it feels like you’re camping on top of other groups and can hear and see people all the time. Here, the only thing you see or hear are dogs and cows and sheep. It really helps that we didn’t have to worry about firewood too. We were there from out of state, so trying to firewood in the car along with everything else would have been tough. We loved the dozen eggs on the first morning too. Can’t get any fresher than that!! Take advantage of the meat store too. We stopped there before we headed home. Soooo many options, it’s ridiculous. We would absolutely love to come back here again and we would definitely recommend people camp here. :)

The area where we stayed was atop a hill and the view was AMAZING! I had cell service the whole time we were there. (Verizon) I definitely got in my steps every day viewing the property and the animals; baby chicks were still under the heat lamp when we were there. The walk to the shower is about 10 minutes and the walk to the outhouse wasn't bad and the view was great once you got in and got seated. They have a little store on the property to purchase local meats, frozen. The hosts were extremely nice and accommodating. Will go back in the Fall.

Mountain views and animals.
We loved camping at the farm. The views were amazing and we loved being able to walk around the farm and see the animals, play in the creek, and get a few goodies at their farm store. It was secluded and private and I really liked that there was only one tent site.

Gorgeous campsite on a spectacular farm with wonderful hosts. My husband and our two kids (3.5 years and 4 months) can’t recommend this place enough. It was kid-friendly, there were lots of animals to interact with, and such hospitality was shown to us by the owners. We can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely loved our stay at Over Jordan Farm! Mike and Betsy were so kind and Mike gave us an overview of the farm when we arrived. We were able to walk around and see baby pigs and chicks as well as the other animals on the farm; we also hung out down by their pond and creek which are absolutely gorgeous. We had access to as much firewood as we could need which was extremely convenient. Beware of wind! Since the site is on top of a hill it gets super windy so be sure to stake down your tents extra well. Would love to return to this site!

What a great gem of a campsite! Beautiful spot, with super nice hosts. One thing I haven't seen others mention- this spot is a bit on top of a hill, and isn't protected from the wind. So check the weather before you go, and be prepared if it's supposed to be windy!

Truly a gem
Only wonderful things to say about this site! Firstly, Betsy and Mike are so kind and go out of their way to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. They give you TONS of firewood and (!) when it got wet from the rain, Mike hand delivered more for us. As others have mentioned, Mike leaves a dozen eggs for you and their Farm Store isn't just adorable it's PACKED with delicious meats. The views cannot be photographed, they're beautiful, and the location is a short 20 minutes away from the Front Royal park entrance. There's even a park trail you access easily from the farm, about 30 minutes down the road. Parking is a literal one minute walk from the site as is a very clean outhouse. Mike gave us free range on the farm and the dogs are SO sweet. The dogs barking another reviewer mentioned did not bother us, but if you're sensitive to noise, you can bring some earplugs. Also keep in mind you're on a farm, so watch where you step :) Mike, Betsy (and Colby!) thank you so much for making us feel so welcomed and safe on your beautiful property! We had an incredible time and hope to be back soon! :-)

Just the best!
I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Three friends and I recently camped here for the weekend and had such a lovely experience. The campsite is beautiful and really peaceful with no one else around. Fire pit, picnic table, flat ground for tents- great spot. Betsy and her family were incredibly warm and made sure we had everything we needed. I got a flat tire leaving for a hike our first morning and they were so helpful as we tried to figure out coordinating with AAA, etc. We all left saying how we can’t wait to return!

Highly Recommend
This was a unique and memorable experience. We loved how private it was - we were the only campers on the whole farm in a postcard-perfect valley with everything we could need for camping. The water spigot and parking spot were a minute or so walk and the newly built outhouse was a minute or so walk in another direction. We swam in the pond and appreciated the hot shower every night. The ground was level and soft because of the lush grass. Our hosts provided a dozen eggs our first morning, which Mike said they provide to guests as long as the hens are cooperating. There was also as much firewood as we could need - good, dry wood - and kindling, which can be so hard to scrounge in campgrounds, was abundant. As far as practical tips, neither of us had cell reception anywhere on the farm (Verizon and Google Fi) or for miles in any direction except a light signal in the center of Flint Hill. Also, while the farm animals were a definite highlight of our stay - we never got tired of watching the adorable piglets - ear plugs were helpful to sleep. The nearest place for ice and other essentials was Settles Garage in Flint Hill, 10 minutes or so drive. We would definitely recommend Over Jordan Farm.

Great views, flawless experience
We were a group of 2 and had an excellent stay on Betsy’s land. The location was very convenient, coming from Washington, DC and the camp site itself features scenic views of the surrounding area. We would have liked to have stayed for longer, if our schedules had permitted. Almost afraid to tell people about this, for fear it will become too popular.

This place exceeded all expectations — we booked another stay while we were there. Betsy and her family are lovely, the setting is idyllic and the campground is perfect. It’s a great alternative to Shenandoah and much more private. The place is super kid friendly and being able to see and pet the farm animals, pick up our own eggs and swim in the pond made our stay extra special. Thanks Betsy!

Over Jordan Farm
Jordan Farm was pristine. It was basically something straight out of a story book. The rolling hills, the animals (cows/calf, sheep/baby sheep, sweet sheep dogs, pigs/baby pigs, chickens/chicks, quail) the river, the woods, and lovely mountain views were all seriously breathtaking. There was a moment when about 10 baby sheep were just running and playing in sync. We were in awe. Waking up to the sunrise was incredible. There was plenty of wood right at the site - no need to travel to buy wood or keep purchasing on site like many other campgrounds (and like we always have to do when we go camping - and many times at that). There was a small electric fence around the site itself which eased our concerns of any bears/animals coming to "eat us in the night" 😂 and as such, we didn't have to lug our coolers back and forth like we usually do. The farm store (on the property) had a great selection of grass fed meats (we cooked a steak on the campfire - one of the best I've ever had). Mike was awesome!! Perfectly laid back but helpful! He helped us bring stuff up to the site and told us a bit about the farm, his family and the local area. The first morning, Mike dropped a dozen fresh eggs off for us down the road for our breakfast(s). Important to note, Shenandoah natl park is super close - you can also get to a great hike from the farm. It was totally worth it! You have the whole place to yourself and tons of wonderful amenities! (The pond looked nice but it was a little chilly for us to hop in - even though Mike said we could if we want :D) Anyway, WE WILL BE BACK!!! THANKS BETSY AND MIKE

Private camping on a stunning farm
We had the most incredible time at Over Jordan Farm -- the land is stunning and private (we had plenty of room for 6 tents). Betsy was so welcoming and we were able to roam the property freely. The farm store with beef/lamb/pork was a huge perk and we used it for all of our meals (the bacon was life changing). I truly cannot wait to come back.

Incredibly peaceful
Such an amazing stay at Over Jordan Farm! Betsy and Mike were very kind and friendly during our interactions, including helping us out when our inexperience led to us not being fully prepared to get a campfire started! It was so peaceful there, just us and the stars, with the occasional visit from the friendly watch dog. Mike directed us to the entrance to a Shenandoah National Park trail just down the road. At mealtimes we put the metal grill grate on the cinder blocks around the fire pit for a balanced cooking setup. We watched the sunrise and sunset, both beautiful, from the little hill where the campsite is located. Between hiking and relaxing around the campfire, this was a perfect space to get away!

Our group of 6 absolutely loved this site! The pictures do not do it justice, the farm is gorgeous and the hill the site is on gives you a great view of most of it. Very private and plenty of room to set up multiple tents. Also just a short walk from the border of Shenandoah NP. HIGHLY recommend!
