We loved this amazing place!
Very nice lawn, place for a tent, overlooking the mountains and forest. The owner is very hospitable. We liked the horses, they are also very friendly and love communication. I'll definitely come again.

It was a beautiful setting near the creek and Michele is a delightful host. I was easy to take quick jaunts to Chimney Rock and other areas. Just a lovely and peaceful getaway.

Mountain Horse Farm Retreat
This was our 6th wonderful stay at Mtn. Horse Farm Retreat! Even in the middle of July the campsite is cool and refreshing. Though we did manage to drag ourselves away from the creek to get in a hike at Buffalo Creek Park in Lake Lure. We always look forward to staying at Michele's place.

My husband and I spent a relaxing weekend here. The site is tucked away with its own drive; we didn’t hear the other campers at all. The stream along the back of the site was lovely. Michele left us plenty of firewood, and there were games and other items in the camp box. She also left info on hiking trails around the property. There are a few spots to sit and enjoy the scenery; we drank our morning coffee sitting by the horse barn with a view across the front field. There was also a hammock hanging across the stream which made a great spot for reading or napping. Michele was a great host!

Mountain Horse Farm Retreat
Michele's place is quiet and well-kept. The stream was a real treat and is loaded with salamanders and crayfish. We were the only campers there during our stay, but there are other site(s) close by. This site does maintain privacy, however, and the stream and shade make it a nice spot for warmer days. Michele is a wonderful and responsive host.

This was a beautiful piece of property and wonderful campsite.
Michele greeted us upon our arrival and gave us a bundle of firewood and an overview of the land, including some trails nearby. We arranged a time for the next morning to feed the horses.
Overall, just a fantastic place to stay with truly exceptional hosts. We will definitely be back!

This was our second visit to Michele's amazing land and it was even more memorable! We have now stayed at both of her sites and each are magical. We loved sleeping right next to the horses and being so close to the mountain views. We took a hayride and fed the horses and my two young boys are already begging to return. Thank you, Michele for sharing your land with us. We feel lucky to be able to experience it and you are an amazing host!

This was our 5th stay at Mountain Horse Farm Retreat in less than a year, and will not be our last. So that should tell you all you need to know. :-) It was the second time we've stayed where we never left the property. Mountain Horse Farm Retreat
This was our 4th stay at Michele's farm. And it gets better with each trip. We never left the property for 3 days, just enjoyed hiking the trails and exploring the woods and all the different vistas available around each corner. We also enjoyed just sitting by the fire and listening to the creek, and relaxing on the hillside watching the horses. Heaven!

Michele's farm is absolutely beautiful and clean! We spent 3 nights under the pole barn and had a lovely time watching the horses, seeing the stars, and roasting food over the fire.
The hayride gave us some lovely angles of the mountain and surrounding fields.
Michele herself is also very friendly and communicative! A true joy to schedule with. We will definitely come back!

We had a wonderful two night stay at this campsite. My two young boys, ages three and five, had a blast interacting with the horses, playing in the creek, and exploring the farm. Sleeping next to the sound of the creek was so peaceful! Michelle was a gracious host and so kind and thoughtful. We will definitely be coming back in the spring!

As we thought, third time was a charm. We love this place. Found some new trails to explore from the map that Michele provided of the multitude of biking and hiking trails in the Old Fort area. Perfect for tiny campers, the site has an old concrete foundation, so pretty level set up and no wet grass or slippery mud when getting out of your camper! Looking forward to our next visit.

Set in the midst of trees next to a pretty stream, this site is on a horse farm, but positioned a good bit away from the pastures, barn, a second camp site and well away from a lightly traveled road. The site has a large concrete pad with a fire pit, picnic table, chairs and a toilet and shower tent. There's also one level grass area where we set up our tent. Michele was an excellent host, making sure we had firewood and good recommendations for local sights and places to visit.
If you're looking for a peaceful place to camp and beautiful night skies free of light pollution, you'd have a hard time finding a better Hipcamp location.

This was our second trip to Michelle's beautiful farm. They say that 3's a charm, but since our first and second trips were both charms we are sure our 3rd, 4th, and every trip after that will be charms as well. A great part of NC to explore. Hiked to the beautiful Catawba Falls and also up Bearwallow Mountain. Both are relatively short but really nice hikes, though popular (go mid week if possible).

Michele was incredibly helpful regarding directions and check in. The property was well kept and she provided all the amenities as described. She created an information packet that had everything campers would need to know while on the property. The camping toilets were spotless as was the site. We were able to feed the horses (with her instruction) and enjoyed a nice getaway. There are short hiking trails on the property and a stream trail to a small waterfall. Highly Recommend this location.

Michele’s Mountain Horse Farm Retreat was such a wonderful treat! The site is nicely tucked in behind a few trees and provides all the privacy you need, while offering just a short walk to the pasture, barn and beautiful horses. An incredibly well thought out campsite, right beside the relaxing sound of a small stream and a wonderful place to enjoy an evening campfire in the nice fire pit with good firewood. And even though we were surrounded by trees, the opening provided some of the best stargazing we have experienced. We boondocked in our 15’ camper and it fit perfectly. Any bigger and we would have had a tough time backing in. Michele was the epitome of gracious host. It seemed as though she thought of everything and keeps the site meticulously maintained. Wonderful communication before and after our arrival and checked on us just the right amount, intuitively conscientious to make sure that we had what we needed while allowing us to relax in our own little retreat. Thank you, Michele, for your warm hospitality!

Perfect! Setting was spectacular! The views, the fireflies, the beautiful giant horse, all were exactly what we needed for a couple worn out travelers. Michele has thought through so many details to make the space even more beautiful and welcoming. From flowers to fresh cut grass, lanterns, toilet, tree swing and a sweet hospitality. Highly recommend! She’s clearly determined to make her place a top Hipcamp destination. 👍

Michele’s land is a little slice of heaven! Upon arriving, we were greeted at the fence by two of her horses who were eager to say hello. Michele was soon to follow ~ she gave a tour of the property and was happy to answer questions about the horses and her land. She made sure we had everything we could need for our stay. The view of campsite #2 where we stayed was overlooking the wide open horse pasture that was backed by distant mountains. Even the drive to get there was on a quiet country road and was lovely. There was essentially no light pollution and when the clouds cleared you could see the sky full of stars. Michele was a gracious host and I would definitely recommend staying here.

What a wonderful campsite! And lovely hosts! The site is exactly as described, but Michelle has added many special touches to make it the perfect home in the woods, too many to list here. We were worried about camping in July, but the temps at the campsite were about 8 to 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding area. Our tiny camper (Runaway) was the perfect fit. Just down the drive (out of view) is another nice campsite (not in use at the time) with a great view across the horse pasture for beautiful sunsets. We intended to explore the surrounding area but mostly explored the farm property and just relaxed by the creek. We will have time for more exploring when we come back!

Michele’s place is magnificent! The creek next to the site creates such a relaxing atmosphere and Michele is an absolute joy! Such a bright light filled with genuine kindness and love. I booked the place on a whim and loved it so much I decided to stay an extra 2 days! Michele let me feed the horses the first day which filled my soul so much. Michele provided wood and a box of things to make the stay that much easier. I would 1000% recommend staying here if you get the chance!

This was the perfect get away in the NC mountains. I brought along my best friend from the west coast that had never been to NC and we were not only amazed by the views surrounding the campsite but how kind our host Michele was. The site was surrounded by trees, and a stream right next to our tent. We even saw lightning bugs! We will definitely return and recommend this site to others. Thank you for helping us experience the NC mountains Michele!!
