Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation
- Campsites and yurts can be booked up to six months in advance and are released daily at 6am. Reservations can be made on the Oregon State Parks website up to 24 hours in advance.
- Same-day reservations are available directly at the Nehalem Bay Campground on a first-come, first-served basis. Loops D, E, and F are available for walk-ins from October until just before Memorial Day weekend. Arrive at sunrise for the best chances of getting a spot.
- Horse campsites are held for those with large animals until 7pm, after which they may be released to non-horse-having campers. If you show up looking for a regular site right at 7pm, you may have some last-minute luck.
When to Go
Nehalem Bay State Park is open throughout the year, though some amenities—notably the boat docks and horseback riding outfitters—are only open through the busy season from mid-May through mid-October. July and August are particularly busy months here, with pleasant weather and crowds to match, though the weather often stays warm and relatively dry until the end of September. September weekdays are the sweet spot, with fewer crowds and nice weather.
Know Before You Go
Basic supplies and groceries are available in the town of Nehalem, a 10-minute drive from the park. If you need to do a big shop, your best bets are the cities of Seaside or Tillamook, both of which are about a 45-minute drive away.
- The park’s campground is ADA-accessible, with three accessible campsites in the A loop and ADA restrooms at the campground and day-use areas. All yurts are also accessible.
- Visitors with horses must arrive with a horse to guarantee their spot. Other similar large animals are also permitted.
