- From mid-May to early October, same-day reservations are permitted only until 3pm. No walk-ins are allowed.
When to Go
Spring and summer are the busiest seasons and the best times for enjoying paddling and swimming in the water, but fall and winter have their own appeal. The park’s lush foliage explodes into rich colors in fall, which is also the ideal time for tackling the park’s hiking trails without overheating. Various winter sports can be enjoyed, including cross-country skiing and snowshoeing along 13 miles of trails in the seasonal Fahnestock Winter Park.
Know Before You Go
- Kayak and rowboat rentals are available in the park in the Canopus Lake Recreation Area.
- All freshwater fishing requires a permit from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, available from town halls and many sporting goods stores.
- Up to two dogs are permitted in each campsite, but must be on a leash of no more than six feet and have proof of rabies inoculation.
