We had a great time at this campsite! For anyone who wants to to drive up all the way to the site, I would only attempt it if you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle AND off-roading experience. We managed fine but it is not car accessible for someone who isn’t confident in their skills in this arena. The hike up if short but steep.

Beautiful campsite and a very kind and helpful host. We came up to visit Storm King Art Center which is an easy, pretty, 30ish minute drive away. I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you so much!

I had a great stay with Mike, directions were clear, space well kept, access to well water and plenty of firewood was a great plus. Mike made a quick check in to make sure I found everything I needed which was nice, I'd totally camp there again.
We stayed at the upper Phoenix site and it was very quiet with classic camping amenities! I highly recommend this site as well as Mike (the host) who was very responsive and detailed about the property. We truly enjoyed our time and will definitely be back in the future! Thank you!!

Very nice spot! Just the right amount of amenities.
Lovely land with plenty of great places to set up a tent. They had a nice big table and chairs already there, fire pit had water to assist with putting it out safely at night and the bathroom was close by and clean.

The spot is great and Mike is super helpful. The watering hole is especially special.
Only drawback is the noise from the road. You lose a bit of the outdoor feeling.
Lots of space. A little private space tucked away in a very busy area.

Mike was very attentive to my needs. I wasn't able to make it to the site by my reservation date and he was nice enough to refund what he could. I was thankful for his continuous communication.
Camped with a group of 5 friends at site 2, Phoenix Landing. We had 3 tents and it was nice to be able to spread out… each tent could’ve have had their own fire circle if desired. We liked the vibes of the hilltop/highest fire circle the best, and so that’s where we gathered. We cooked at the main/middle site, and used the table there for food prep; it was too small/tight for 5 adults to comfortably sit at. We did have rain on our first night and it was nice that the tent platform already had a tarp covering, and there were plenty of trees around the rest of the area that we could rig up tarps as needed for other tents. Although it’s exactly as described in the listing, my camp mates were less than thrilled with the bucket toilet, and asked me to reiterate the recommendation to build a composting toilet. Unfortunately as well, the “outhouse” has poorly placed windows - best to avert your eyes if anybody’s finishing up… or you won’t have to look up to the Night Sky for a full moon! Having a sink set up and the water provided by the camp host was very helpful for doing dishes, but we liked to also bring over a kettle with hot water to mix with the air-temp water. It was too cold to use the shower. We did drive past the other site on property, Chestnut… and while that one would be easier to drive to, it is much closer to the road… But also the stream! The drive up to Phoenix landing does require AWD and a confident driver… camp host Mike has a truck and will drive up equipment.

Mike was responsive and the campsite was very spacious. The deck was much needed because it rained the weekend we came.
We had an amazing stay at Destination French. The campsite was well-maintained, but what truly impressed us was the exceptional communication with our host, Mike. He promptly responded to all our messages and greeted us warmly at our campsite. This was our first time at Destination French, but it certainly won’t be our last.

It was a great experience for our first camping!
Host Mike was very patient to answer many of my questions.
Campsite was big enough to camp out with my family and friends together.
We had the best 1st camping on Thanksgiving weekend.
My son and I really enjoyed camping on Mike's property. It was tucked away and quiet. Mike was very supportive and kept the firewood coming for the cold temperatures. The entrance comes up quickly, but Mike's directions were spot on.
The hiking near the property was fantastic. Try Anthony's Nose; the hike was challenging, but the views were worth it.
Phoenix Landing is the optimal camping spot for my partner and I (and cat). Though it was just the two of us, we had no issues with the camp site and felt very safe in the area. We decided to camp out there while enjoying Halloween festivities along the Hudson. The forest/stream, on the property is beautiful and there are many trails to explore. We brought our cat who loves walking outdoors on a harness & leash - we stayed very vigilant with her, but thankfully the most we encountered was a buck during our trip (1st week of Nov.).
Mike's directions are very thorough and clear - DEFINITELY read his instructions for finding the property at first. He also provides a lot of supplies if needed, especially firewood for a small cost. Communication with him was also very pleasant and easy. We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it by 1 more day 😊. Overall, we look forward to staying at Phoenix Landing again in the near future.
NOTE: Needing a 4x4/ AWD vehicle is absolutely necessary to climb the property if choosing not to walk. We arrived in absolute pouring rain and thankfully our Land Cruiser had no issue. The climb / descent is definitely very fun, but if you have no experience with off-roading, it may be a bit difficult. Take it slow. Cheers!

Beautiful spot, secluded and very well equipped. Only would recommend more signage and lighting at the driveway entrance, it was a bit difficult to find at night. Other than that fully recommend.
I loved this place!! Mike was very helpful. Always responded very quickly. The location is near some pretty great hikes. The campsite is on a bit of a slant, but we had three tents and were able to find good spots with little to no issue. I definitely plan on going back. I had a really good time!
Chestnut Landing
The entrance to the property is an interesting one. There is a gap in the street railing that gives you no warning that the entrance is there. The street address is basically on a 4"×5" little white sign covered by leaves.
Do not just drive in. There is a cable across the entrance. I happened to notice it at the last second before I almost hit it.
Once you unlock the cable and get in, there is a sign directing you to the site.
The site itself is nice, complete with an actual picnic table and chairs, a bonus. I do hammock camping, so I found a couple of adequate trees to hang my gear on.
The site is surrounded by nice trees, providing excellent shade. A fire ring is also provided.
The only issue I had was the close proximity to the road. Apparently, trucks like to Engine Brake their rigs to slow down. All you hear is traffic and truck noise. All day and all night.
So you are surrounded by nature, but you haven't escaped the noise we try to escape in the first place. I really was disappointed. I reread the site description, and it mentioned road noise.
In reality, the road noise is completely unacceptable. I actually felt ripped off. I feel this does Hipcamp a huge disservice, and really shouldn't be offered as a site.
To leave, you have unlock the cable, and I just left it unlocked. There is absolutely no room to lock cable behind you. You are literally right on the road.
I am an avid Hipcamp user, so I have many sites to compare to.

The site was perfect for a weekend with friends! Two large picnic tables and large fire pit with multiple grates for easy cooking. And the platform for the tents was great for the night it poured, we stayed dry all night. Mike was a great host, showed us around and made sure we had plenty of shower water and firewood. Would definitely stay again!

Great campsite, primitive but has everything you need. We discovered some hiking trails nearby plus there was a stream to splash in. Make sure your car has 4WD and high clearance if you are staying at Phoenix Landing. Also be mindful of how much water is in the primitive shower and how charged the pump battery is so you don't run out.
One of the best spots I have ever been to. The site was very spacious and the site was so comfortable for the family. The trails nearby are amazing. Mike (the owner) is very kind and super helpful when it comes to knowledge of the land and supplies for camping. I would highly recommend staying at this site with a running stream on the campsite. Definitely plan on coming back again !

really rough road, could not enter with a regular car, ended up getting stuck , AAA got stuck and had to be towed. So probably pass on staying here again.
Mike was super nice and responded quickly.
He allowed me to stay for a night last minute.
There was a picnic table and firepit. There was also wood for sale down the road outside the barn.
I cooked a wonderful meal in the firepit and had a gorgeous sleep in my tent on a cot.
There is a slope to carry your items up but its not too difficult.
You can hear cars on the highway the entire time but I live in Brooklyn NY so that didn’t bother me at all.
I would 100% stay here again and hopefully bring my family along as they don’t live far from the property.

We had a great time camping Saturday night on Mike’s land. He’s very helpful and fast to communicate, and it’s clear a lot of love is put into the property. We swam, enjoyed a camp fire and fresh air after the rains. Our dog was very happy. Would recommend.
Mike's property was great! We booked Phoenix Landing, and very comfortably could fit 7 tents in the area. There are 3 fire pits to use. It's private and naturey while still being easy to access. Would recommend!

The site is up a steep woods road and requires 4 wheel drive with high ground clearance. Once you get to the top it levels out and there is a spacious tenting area with a platform and room for many tents. There are a lot of trees, so if you are a hammock camper this is great. There are two picnic tables, a privy, cold shower, and a dish washing area. The camping area is quite a long way up the hill from the main house, so you have complete privacy.
I would 100% recommend camping on Mikes land. Mike is friendly, helpful, and very responsive. From the moment we got there we felt that he was as invested in our experience as we were. He even lent us his fishing hooks, said we could use his swimming hole, shared his wild mushrooms, and lent us his mini wagons to help us carry stuff up the hill. the site is beautiful and very private. You do here the cars from the road. We didn't mind, but if it would bother you, then you should probably book Mikes other camp site thats farther up. Very close to local hikes and fishing opportunities. Had the best time! we will be back!
