On the upper Bad River, I have a special location that I'd like to share for others to enjoy.
I was fortunate to acquire this land 20 years ago and now that I have retired from the United States Air Force, I can dedicate time to create peaceful campsites along the river.
This land was originally railroad property as the railroad companies bought much land in the late 1800's to have options to place their railroads.
There is still a railroad track nearby but it has been unused since 2015 and it makes a nice hiking path along the river for many miles to the north into the national forest.
There are 3 waterfalls nearby and I will have many signs leading to the waterfalls.
There are 4 total campsites on the property, 1 site you can drive to (Eagle Pines), and 3 tent sites that require 1/8 mile hike to 2 sites, and a 1/4 mile hike to the other hike-in site.
There is no leash required for good pups. If your pup is aggressive with other dogs or people please leash them when on the hiking trails. If your pups would stay in your campsite no leash is required. Other campers may be hiking past your campsite on the trails that is still over 100 feet away from others campsites. You may run into others on the trails where others dogs may not be leashed. If your dog is aggressive to other dogs even if yours is on leash if you can’t control them please muzzle them.

This was my father's favorite place to be in the summer. He loved watching the hummingbirds early in the season and the leaf turn in the fall. We hope you and your guests will enjoy staying here as much as our family has.

Short drive from the Namekagon River which is great for tubing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming.
Due to a recent review, I am also adding here that swimming from our property is not ideal. The lake tends to be weedy during warm summers. There are places to swim nearby, so if you are booking with the sole intent of being able to swim, please be aware that this is likely not the best site for you unless you are willing to drive to a nearby beach.

We're located just 15 minutes from Lake Superior and Lake Nebagamon for fishing, swimming, and boating and 20 minutes from the twin ports of Superior and Duluth. Located just down from Bayview Beach, our property sits nestled between Lake Superior and the Onion River, which runs through the property just behind the cabin.
You will have a private beach on Lake Superior all to yourself. While neighbors may be around from time to time, especially on weekends, you will not have to share anything but the sound of waves hitting the shore and birds chirping as the sun sets in the west.
You can set up a tent by the cabin or on the beach side in the grass or sand areas—or even on the beach itself if you'd like to catch a sunrise. There is also room for an RV, teardrop trailer, or camper van, if that's what you'd like to bring.
A fire ring and firewood are provided, along with some chairs. Kayaks are available after booking for a fee, but you are responsible for safe operation and for understanding when weather conditions are not suitable for their use.
At this time, the cabin is not included or open for use, nor is there power available for outside hookups. There is no running water (besides the river and Lake Superior), and no toilets on site. However, you will pass public toilets on your way in—they are roughly 90 seconds away by car. Otherwise, you are responsible for bringing a camp toilet.
Pets are welcome but must be leashed when others are around and well-behaved. Please dispose of waste properly and respect the natural surroundings.
We've had this property since my siblings and I were kids, so please be respectful of the property and neighbors and treat others as you would like to be treated in return. You should not be bothered by anyone. Please practice pack-in/pack-out and clean up after yourselves.

Agate campsite is very generously sized and is all yours. Agate campsite previously featured a "look out point" that has been altered by the natural erosion of the red clay banks that comprise much of Lake Superior's south shore. While you can still access this area, doing so will require more effort and care, and we no longer allow camping on the point.
Superior Beach Camp located is 2.5 hours north of the Twin Cities and perfectly positions you to discover all the wonders of the Twin Ports. Stock up on supplies and explore the charming industrial town of Superior, WI – 15 minutes from your campsite. Spend a day mountain biking the Duluth Traverse and touring the the wonderful local dining and tap room scenes of Duluth and Superior. Canal Park, downtown Duluth, is a 25 minute drive.
If you’d like to venture further, you could meander up the North Shore. Or keep it local and check out Bayfield and the Apostle Islands – only 75 minutes East. Stop through the charming lakeside village of Cornucopia on your way.
Or perhaps you’d like to experience world class trout fishing on the Brule River a half hour from Superior Beach Camp.
Maybe Parks are your thing: Amnicon Falls, one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful State Parks, is reachable in 10 minutes by car. Experience upscale camping–Glamping in the Forested Hills of Lake Superior. Sailor Springs is a small three-site campground located just two miles outside of the picturesque tourist town of Bayfield, WI. 2023 will be our first year of operation and we’re excited to host campers on the property and provide a unique camping experience.
The campground is spread out over 5 acres of forest that you’ll hike into from Bresette Hill Road. After parking at the trailhead, you’ll gather your bags and hike into your glamping site. The trail winds through the woods, leading you first to a valley where the seasonal Clark Creek runs through in the spring. The first two campsites are on the other side of this valley. The trail can be steep in spots and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to reach the secluded campsites. The third site is a bit farther into the forest, the little A-frame cabin, Anchor sits on the edge of the spring-fed Brickyard Creek that flows year-round.
We have many plans for the property and depending on when you stay, the campground will be in various stages of development. The campsites, trailhead / parking area, and trails are scheduled to be completed in early spring. We hope to add amenities such as a camp sauna and screened-in gazebo later in the 2024 summer / fall. As a battle-hardened camper, the distance of the hike in was a breeze for my group and I. The trail can be difficult, but I actually enjoyed the hike. During the first two days, we explored the waterfalls around the area and didn’t get a chance to explore Dean’s land. On the third day, however, we finally had the opportunity to explore it.
Compared to Copper Falls and the other well-known waterfalls in the area, which offer some great views, Dean’s land was a completely different experience. We were able to get right into the river, swim, fish, and simply enjoy the surroundings. Honestly, we enjoyed our time at Dean’s land much more than visiting the more well-known falls in the area.

It was a nice get away. The bugs were fair. It wasn't too bad of a walk in but Im glad we didn't have the kids and all their extra things. The river was low so wasn't able to go very far in the canoe. The first night we walked the trail to the falls and were only able to find the first little one. Trails were a bit overgrown and towards the end unclear. I used the maps on this app to see if I could find my way but didnt want to feel like I was walking aimlessly and unable to find my way back as it was getting dark so I gave up. Second day we made our way over to potato falls and wished we brought our swim gear, can definitely spend a whole day there and its about 30 min away. It was also a short drive to copper falls state park for some additional hiking.
We brought firewood with us and made a few trips to the parking lot and back. If you have a little chainsaw or skill saw with a couple batteries.
Lots of frogs my dog loved hunting in the swampy area by our camp that would hop through the site at night.

The Glade was beautiful and exactly as described! The campsite was very well-equipped to make our stay as comfortable as imaginable, including a picnic table, a metal garbage can with a lid, an outhouse with toilet paper and hand sanitizer, a small string of lights, and a water cooler! Truly a premium campsite and a very private space. The only thing to be aware of is it was unfortunately a bit misty and damp and the soil has a lot of clay that matted our shoes pretty well - not much doing about that, but I would definitely pack camp shoes or something similar if you can! The location was also great, quite close to some Superior beaches and not too far to a number of MN and WI state parks, and even a reasonable drive to Apostle Islands. I would definitely recommend staying here!

This is exactly what I was hoping to find when I signed up with HipCamp! This camp is so chill. Off the beaten pass but has strong WiFi and easy access to electricity. The grounds are lovely, with a fabulous campfire and lot of firewood available. Caleb, the host, couldn't have been nicer. Stays to himself but is available for any questions. Great guy and great spot!

The site was clean and spacious, and the full hookups were well maintained and much appreciated. The views of the lake were outstanding. Spending mornings on the dock with a coffee and nights around the campfire were a favorite. There are neighboring homes visible, much like you'd find at a lake house, but the neighbors and the lake were quiet even over an August weekend. The driveway was long and deeply wooded on each side, making for a nice place to walk my dogs. The spot also made a great basecamp for Duluth, Lake Superior, and Amnicon Falls and paddling the river.

Bayview Beauty turned out to be one of those camping spots that feels like a lucky find. I camped here alone with my dog, Thor, and loved having a private sandy beach on Lake Superior just steps from my camper. I spent my time listening to the waves, walking the shoreline, and enjoying a fire in the beachside fire pit. Peter provided plenty of chairs and firewood, which made it easy to settle in and enjoy the property.
This is a primitive site without hookups, so campers should arrive prepared for that. But if you’re self-contained and looking for privacy, beautiful Lake Superior views and a responsive host, this place is truly special.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay—and Peter absolutely delivered on the awesome lake, awesome beach and awesome host! I can't wait to come back!
