The Firefly is nestled between trees, on a loud, rushing creek, on a five acre property that is mostly cleared and on a hard surface dead end rd, a few miles from Hillsville, Va. The firefly is comfortable for a small family or a romantic get away for couples. The creek is stocked with trout, with easy access along the creek, perfect for wading, floating, and relaxing to the noise. Firefly has a camp style charcoal grill, a firepit with lots of firewood, a wood pellet stove on the covered deck for grilling when its rainy outside, a wood pellet fireplace for heat, outside shower with hot water, a comfy queen size memory foam bed, fresh linens and towels, and an outside bathtub situated by the creek. it has running water and a composting toilet and there is an unattached bathhouse with a conventional toilet and an outside shower as well. The FireFly is pet friendly and please leave $25 on the counter for the pet fee. The Firefly is 6 miles from I-77 and The Blue Ridge Parkway. I keep all paper products, dishes, cookware and pellets for the pellets cooker and for the heater. Plenty of blankets and there is a pellet heater and a propane wall heater there with plenty of propane.

I would recommend this campground over and over again! Not only was the site absolutely gorgeous, but the cleanliness of the entire location was truly impressive. Laura and Steve went above and beyond to ensure a safe and beautiful space to retreat. This was my birthday camping trip with my wife, best friend, and fur baby. After the success of our adventure, we plan to make this trip annually.

Peaceful and family oriented. Right on the river. Easy to setup camp and enjoy a fire. Bathroom outside was nice and clean. My 10-year old and I will come again!

The hammock made for very relaxing naps for young and old.

We loved everything about Carl’s Campsite! We stayed on Site 3, Toad Hollow and had tons of room for 2 tents and 2 canopies. The playground area was a favorite for my grand daughters (age 4 and 6) and my boyfriend and son also played horseshoes. The river was beautiful. The leaves falling, cool nights and warm days made for a rejuvenating, soul healing weekend! Did not want to leave!!!! Will definitely revisit.

We loved this tent shelter spot with a beautiful view of the New River! It felt like a little upgrade from normal tent camping since we had such a sturdy shelter, a nice picnic table, a sink, etc. It was wonderful being able to see the stars and the sun rise from our sleeping bags each day. We will definitely be back to this spot! Super easy to find and a beautiful little area.

The location was amazing! Laura and Steve were wonderful hosts and made sure I had everything I needed. Firewood was onsite for purchase, they had water stations for each campsite. The rustic toilet and shower set up were great to have. Lots of land to explore and let your dog off-leash. Will def be coming back!

A beautiful experience, time of disconnection and a good rest, I bathed in the river and it is one of the best since it is the current is very calm to bathe with children 5 star ✨

River Rest, at the end of the campground, is a unique campsite. It has the best river noise, with water rushing over large rocks. The River Access #2 is right on the site where the fence ends.

Stunning views! Adorable ‘shelter/cabin’ Love the twinkle lights. Prepare for a hike to the river. It’s a leg work out. Very secluded and sweet spot. My sprinter is 23’. (No where to turn around) but I backed it down the hill and got it situated. Be prepared if you have a larger vehicle.

Toad Hollow is spacious, shaded, and on the riverfront with hammock, picnic table, trash receptacle and firepit. Parking is onsite

I loved staying here! The tent was very nice and had everything I needed! It was a little cold at night while I was there, but the pellet heater helped keep the space warm! We enjoyed our time on Laura’s land. The river was beautiful and just steps away. The individual shower and potty were new and private the fire pits and hammocks are both nice to have. Our dog loved the other dogs and places to roam.
