Our 65 acre farm is secluded and peaceful. We have a small pond with catfish, bluegill, large mouth bass (catch and release only) and a gentle creek. We are just over an hour north of Durham, NC, two hours southwest of Richmond, VA, and 30 minutes east of Danville, VA. Our property is 204 acres of beautiful wilderness, in an international Dark Sky zone (you can see the milky way on a clear night), where you can usually hear nothing other than the calls of the animals.
The property is accessed via a half mile dirt and grass road that drops you off at the main camping area at the Old Tobacco Barn. From there you have access to a composting toilet and fire circle.
Roughly half the property was cleared and is open and overgrown with brush. The other half of the property is various types and stages of forest, from young to old.
We have 5 waterways that I have counted so far (it's a lot of land!), including 1.5 miles of Sandy Creek, which is more of a small river than a creek, beautiful swimmable natural springs, and a half acre pond (with beavers!). We have two kayaks that you can use on the pond, and you can bring tubes or kayaks and paddle down Sandy Creek all the way to Banister River a few miles downstream.
Camping is available throughout the property, although you will see several marked and prepped sites along the road or in the woods. This is rustic camping, meaning that you can drive up to some camping sites, but others are off the road and require a bit of trekking through brush, trails, or woods.
This area of the state is an international dark sky zone, and the views at night are glorious - the milky way is clearly visible, you can generally catch shooting stars with regularity on any clear night, and if you bring binoculars or a telescope, you have a clear view of most of the sky.
If you enjoy wild plants, foraging, bird watching, tracking, or generally getting out into a natural space, then you will enjoy the diversity of the wildlife and plant life on the property.
Animals that we have verified on the land include Deer (lots!), Racoons, Cayote, Turkey, Black Bear, Fox, and a large variety of birds and other critters that we haven't identified.
We have house sized boulders along Sandy Creek that you can climb on, and the creek itself is clean and swimmable. There is lots to explore throughout the property and, most of all, it's a wonderful place to rest and relax out in nature.
A few things to keep in mind:
* The road is a dirt road, meaning that it turns muddy after it rains. Please be mindful of this and park at the front and walk in if it is raining or has rained the day before you arrive. Also, if it looks like it will rain while you are on site, you may want to move your vehicle to the front of the property to make it easier to get out when you leave. Having said that, the road is good and any car can drive it without issue when it is dry.
* Smaller campers and trailers are welcome on the property as well, although we do not have a place to dump/empty your septic, so please take waste off site.
* We do not have showers or potable water on site, so you will need to pack water in with you. This is rustic camping.
* We do have a composting toilet - please drop a handful of wood shavings into the bucket when you are done. For folks who are comfortable doing so, please consider urinating outside rather than in the composting toilet. ;)

Our farm is an agritourism/sheep farm that offers seasonal events, educational workshops, a petting zoo, Bed and Breakfast, farm store, and camping area!
We are a working farm during the week but we allow campers to park on weekends or weekdays. The price is the same except the petting zoo and farm store are only open on weekends.
We don't have hookups, so bring a generator if you need it. If you need to fill up your RV water tank, we charge $10. Each of the 3 sites has a fire ring and picnic table.
A Grill Pavilion is available to rent for $20 extra. See photos. Propane, grill, table and party lights included.
We allow check-ins during the week after 12 noon, perfect for folks passing through and just need a safe and quiet place to park for the night and not interested in visiting the farm store, the barnyard or the rest of the farm, which are closed during week.
If you are looking for interaction with the animals, or need supplies from the farm store, we open from 10-4 weekends only. You can purchase feed for the animals for $1/bag then. We have sheep, donkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits, turkeys, guinea pigs and geese!
While we are dog-friendly, we do not allow dogs closer to the petting zoo area. We offer a 1+ acre fenced in area next to the camping sites where you can allow your dogs off-leash. No extra charge.
Our camping area is a large grassy field that will accommodate multiple tent campers, travel trailers, and RVs under 30' with room to turn around, stake your area, and not feel crowded.
There is also 1 regularly maintained porta potty located in this area.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE: Turn into the driveway and up towards the house. You will enter the camping area through the open double gates on your left. We no longer use the red gate on your right as a camping area.

This is a secluded, standalone, pull-through camping spot for all types of RVs. It is a nice, level, gravel lot off of a private gravel road. Our property is a small hobby farm. The meadow you will be camping in was formed in 1994 when hurricane Fran came through and laid down several acres of hardwood trees. The fallen trees were harvested and the land was cleared and a pond was built and a blueberry patch was planted.
Pitch your tent(s) in our private meadow with a small pond on our 21 acre property. You're welcome to fish and walk around the property. Our farm is an agritourism/sheep farm that offers seasonal events, educational workshops, a petting zoo, Bed and Breakfast, farm store, and camping area!
We are a working farm during the week but we allow campers to park on weekends or weekdays. The price is the same except the petting zoo and farm store are only open on weekends.
We don't have hookups, so bring a generator if you need it. If you need to fill up your RV water tank, we charge $10. Each of the 3 sites has a fire ring and picnic table.
A Grill Pavilion is available to rent for $20 extra. See photos. Propane, grill, table and party lights included.
We allow check-ins during the week after 12 noon, perfect for folks passing through and just need a safe and quiet place to park for the night and not interested in visiting the farm store, the barnyard or the rest of the farm, which are closed during week.
If you are looking for interaction with the animals, or need supplies from the farm store, we open from 10-4 weekends only. You can purchase feed for the animals for $1/bag then. We have sheep, donkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits, turkeys, guinea pigs and geese!
While we are dog-friendly, we do not allow dogs closer to the petting zoo area. We offer a 1+ acre fenced in area next to the camping sites where you can allow your dogs off-leash. No extra charge.
Our camping area is a large grassy field that will accommodate multiple tent campers, travel trailers, and RVs under 30' with room to turn around, stake your area, and not feel crowded.
There is also 1 regularly maintained porta potty located in this area.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE: Turn into the driveway and up towards the house. You will enter the camping area through the open double gates on your left. We no longer use the red gate on your right as a camping area.

This is a secluded, standalone, pull-through camping spot for all types of RVs. It is a nice, level, gravel lot off of a private gravel road. We have all utilities available: well water, 50A power, and a septic dump-station (please be mindful to not dump chemicals/cleaners). In the daytime, the near-by gun range can be heard in the distance. At night, after 10PM or so, the neighborhood is typically quiet. We would return in a heartbeat to to the Saxapahaw Country Club! Our site had electricity and due to very cold weather we couldn’t use water. We partook of the “extras” of hot showers (huge hit!) and brats and andouille sausages (great in red beans and rice for Marti Gras)). Our dogs loved walking around the property and the farm animals, especially the donkey, were fun to watch. We met Wes’ wife and enjoyed chatting were her about the history of Saxapahaw. We would love to return when the weather is more conducive for paddling on the Haw River and hopefully catch another show at the Saxapahaw Ball Room.

We loved our stay at the rural Chapel Hill Forestry Stay. Bekah was super responsive and gave clear directions for the way in. The stay was clean and private with nice walking trails nearby. Lovely as a stop on a roadtrip or as a nice getaway from the city! Also recommend checking out New Hope Market on your way in or out for a great lunch or breakfast :-)
