Shady Rest Campground is a quite peaceful property located within 2 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Firewood is plentiful in the campground and you just help yourself. The bathhouse is a little primitive but it has hot water, toilets and showers. We also have a covered shelter which offers an indoor fireplace you are welcome to use. The town of Sparta is 12 miles away and offers several restaurants and local shops. Stone Mountain is approximately 15 minutes away with great hiking beautiful waterfalls in the park. On the drive in, to the southeast you can see Peak Mountain for which the property was named. Campsite #1 was originally created for our personal use. Campsite #2, so our fellow camping buddies could join us. Although a short drive from our homes, the serenity of the property always makes us feel as if we’ve travelled many miles. Campsites are laid out in an ‘L’ shape which creates the perfect group camping experience. Guests can choose to camp alone or invite others. Campsite 1 and 2 are reserved together as one booking due to the close proximity of the sites. The property is secluded, but easily accessible. Campsites are full hookups which include water, sewer and 50 amp electric. Both sites can accommodate any size RV. They are gravel and level which makes getting set up easy. A 30 x 30 shelter with concrete floor, lights, picnic tables and trash bin is nearby, which is a great asset in any weather. A fire pit and chairs are a nice addition for evening enjoyment. Firewood is provided. WiFi is available. The area is pet friendly. Pets can be off leash, however, you might consider leashing your pet, as wildlife is frequently seen. If your furry friend is anything like our dogs, the chase is on when a deer, squirrel or turkey makes a sudden appearance! During your stay, take a 7/10 mile walk down to the New River. Pull up one of the chairs on the small covered deck overlooking the river, sit back and take in the sounds of the calming waters. Watch floaters, kayakers and canoe navigators pass by or enjoy your own floating, fishing and swimming. On the other side of the river is part of the New River State Park. A 15 minute drive will take you to downtown West Jefferson for restaurants and shopping. Visit the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce online or downtown for information on our county’s many attractions and events.

We are a safe haven for animals and humans alike. Situated on and between two peaks of Little Phoenix Mountain range in Jefferson Ashe County. Our sites’ altitudes range from 3100 feet to over 3600 feet, which is a lot of slope and hillside to say the least. As a guest you will be offered insane long views and wildflowers galore. Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, we have natural water springs popping out, some of which are tapped to drink from. (10.1.25 currently farm springs are not accessible to guests, shatley springs up the road approx 4miles north has a public spring that we highly recommend) If you are looking for a camping spot that is only 5-10 minutes from town (Jefferson NC or the quaint Downtown West Jefferson) but feels like you're in the middle of no where, then we have it! The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 20 minutes away and the New River equally close. Ontop dot camp The climb up sunrise mountain is bumpy, be warned, and do adhere to the conversation and guidance of the host on the call or in person meeting preclimb. Even though the section titled “the climb” is passed each and every visit by capable awdr and 4wdr vehicles, this does not mean everyone is capable of picking a thought out path. Thankfully everyone of our guest have been wonderful in the over 8 years with zero damage to their vehicles. MSG for more info. *firewood is available if you pay on site you will have to use Venmo/Paypal *We do not allow any harvesting of campfire wood or burning of our property outside of the designated fire ring. We use any downed wood on our property for our family to keep warm and to cut and split ourselves to sell to our guest. Numerous large manicured campsites in an open space DIRECTLY ON THE NEW RIVER where adventures abound! Up to 4 guests and 2 tents per site. Newly constructed tiny home provides GLAMPING at its finest! The Liberty cabin shares a space with a few tent sites along the river. With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy. While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night! Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.

"Whose woods these are, I think I know".... (Robert Frost) As the seasons roll along, even after 23 years, as I walk through my woods, I often think of Frost's poem. The trees bright with autumn colors, winter snow making all things pure, the dogwoods coming into blossom. Eye candy. Babbling Brook Campground was started when we were in a financial famine. I wasn't sure I was the gal for hosting. It turns out, hosting is a perfect fit for me, and for our land. We started with the treehouse in April of 2018, and it continues to grow into something better each year. We have four sites, Babbling Brook Treehouse, Happy Hillside Camping, The Bird's Nest, and Cozy Cottage Farm Stay. The Cozy Cottage is up at our farm, but you have access to the camp and creek below. Up at the farm, you can be with the livestock. There is no electricity or running water, but that is part of the charm. We had a great time at this campground! It was easy to get into with our 33-ft 5th wheel. The roads leading to the campground were a bit narrow and winding, but definitely doable. Our site (#R1) was large and right on the river — absolutely beautiful! The campground was clean and quiet, and I was told they’re in the process of making some updates. It will be nice when the large campground store is fully stocked and open. They have a really cute logo, and I’m sure souvenir merchandise will be a hit! 😊 They also sell firewood. After reading some reviews, I was a little concerned about the Wi-Fi and cell service. The host took the time to call me personally to address my concerns and reassure me that she had recently upgraded the service. I’m so glad we kept our reservation because everything worked perfectly! We had no issues with streaming or cell service at all. We’ll definitely be back! We highly recommend this campground if you’re looking for a beautiful, quiet place to relax by the river!

Our 2nd time tent camping here and we continue to love it! Perfect weekend getaway. Enjoyed the option to add on the tasting room bathrooms after hours but the porta potty was also incredibly clean! Employees are consistently helpful and friendly. We love the fenced in dog area and enjoying great wine and beer. Having the firewood provided and ready at the site makes our trip so much easier!

We really enjoyed our stay! The directions provided were clear and easy to follow, leading us straight to the property without any issues. The host was very friendly, responsive, and quick to address any questions or concerns. We had a minor issue with the firewood, but it was promptly resolved, which we greatly appreciated. The property offers absolutely beautiful views, and one of our favorite features was how dark and peaceful it became at night. With very little light pollution, the stargazing was incredible! The camping area was primarily dirt, with some grassy areas that were a little overgrown, but there was still plenty of space to find a suitable spot for our tent. We also had a few visits from a friendly-looking dog who kept his distance and seemed content to observe us from the tree line. During our stay, someone passed through on a 4x4, possibly heading out for hunting or other outdoor activities. There was some machinery or outdoor work audible in the surrounding area, beginning around 7 AM and continuing intermittently throughout the day. It wasn’t quite as quiet during the daytime as we had anticipated, but the beautiful surroundings and peaceful evenings were definitely worth it. Overall, this is a beautiful location with wonderful views and an amazing night sky. The host was attentive and accommodating, and we appreciated the opportunity to enjoy such a scenic setting. I would recommend this spot to anyone who enjoys camping, nature, and especially stargazing.

What an unexpected, hidden gem! I didn't realize that we had booked our own private campsite on top of a mountain surrounded by mountain views. Nestled between a cornfield and on old forest were 2 RV sites - One for us- and the other RV site for friends- so we’ll keep that in mind for the future. It’s a buy one get one free site- so you have the whole place to yourself or bring a friend with a 2nd RV. There’s no bath house or restroom- but there’s a large, beautiful shelter with a concrete floor, picnic tables and 2 large comfortable chairs. Up on the high top in the well packed gravel clearing is a handsome fire pit, with free, chopped wood and 2 Adirondack chairs. The grounds are well maintained. We hoped to arrive by 5pm- but we didn’t arrive until close to 10pm. Steve and Penny were so kind and accommodating. Steve met us at the site at 9:45pm to give us an overview of the grounds. There’s a 7/10 of a mile hike through an enchanting old forest down to a private lookout over the New River, and the opportunity to grill. We LOVED Peak A View! The peace and privacy is unrivaled. It’s unlike any place we’ve ever stayed, and we look forward to camping here again in the future.

I stayed on 25 September 2026. I camp from my Harley Davidson so my equipment consist of a tent, sleeping bag and food and cooking supplies. I arrived approximately 4:30 pm. I was the only person at the campground. I had reached out to Kim in advance to make sure the campground was motorcycle friendly. I rode slowly through the site until I found a site. It had a concrete pad and a wooden platform. There was a large steel fire ring, picnic table and a water faucet. I parked the bike on the concrete, set up my tent on the platform. There was lots of firewood but it was wet from the last week of rain. It took a bit to get a fire going. Once it was lit I was able to dry out enough wood to have a nice warm evening. It was a bit Windy being on the top of the hill. Nothing a warm fire and dinner didn’t fix. I bank my coals and called it a night about. 11:30. I still had a nice bed of coals I. The morning. I got up and made breakfast and leisurely broke down camp. I left about 11:20. It was very relaxing. The perfect balance between rustic and convenient. I will definitely be back.
