Thousand Peaks Ranch Campground in Hartsel has Scenic Mountains, is a getaway and a home away from home for many users. The campsites are best suited for tents and RV stops. Some of the campsites are close to stunning views and you can sleep every night to the sounds of coyotes and other animals. We are very close to many places where you can find a river to fish, take a walk in nature or take a quick dip in the cold waters.
Thousand Peaks Ranch Primitive Campground is a 40-acre site each with a table, fire pit and grill. There is a fee for its use and the stay limit is three weeks. We have well water to supply your shower and are located close to the center of the camp.
Thousand Peaks Ranch offers a group campsite with 8 separate group campsites. These sites vary in size:
Group sites 1, 2, and 7 ($40/ night) can accommodate between 10 and 25 people per site.
Group sites 3-6 ($80/night) can accommodate between 25 and 50 people per site.
Group Site 8 ($120/night) accommodates up to 75 people.
Each site is equipped with 1 or 2 picnic tables and a Fire Pit. There is a large field area in the center of these sites that can be used for group activities.
Please keep in mind that we are a primitive campground. We do not have hookups and cannot accommodate electrical needs. As this is a primitive campsite, we allow the use of generators.

A newer Hipcamp site, on one of the most unique properties in Park County. With just a single Hipcamp site on a large 40 acre property and no neighbors nearby, you'll enjoy a private camping experience in one of the most scenic locations in Colorado. The property is partially wooded, and there is a spectacular view from the top of a prominent hill on the property which is some of the highest ground for miles in all directions. On site picnic tables (the tan colored bench can fold into a table) and a porta-potty are provided. The campsite is equipped with a unique dual purpose wood/propane fire ring - bring your own propane to enjoy campfires while burn bans are in effect. Great hiking opportunities may be found right on the property, and numerous nearby seldom used dirt roads provide exceptional mountain biking opportunities. Close to recreational opportunities in Buena Vista and Salida, as well as Antero, Eleven Mile, and Spinney Mountain Reservoirs. A level site with great access, and can accommodate large RV's and campers. And keep your eyes out - you might just see some Pronghorn passing through the property!
Directions from the town of Hartsel: Proceed 2 miles South on State Hwy 9. Turn right (South) on CR 53. Stay right at the fork at 1.3 miles. At 3.9 miles, turn left (East) onto lightly used Shawnee Trail (Note: On occasion due to County grading on CR 53, there will be a small mound to drive over as you enter this left turn). Proceed about one-quarter mile (and past the the POSTED NO TRESPASSING sign just inside the property entrance) to the campsite a bit further on the left.

On the edge of Echo Valley Ranch, this area was named for a local opera singer whose voice could reportedly be heard throughout the valley and was described as magical. It’s also surprisingly quiet, with the breath of the forest and the quaking of the aspens often the only sounds—unless the elk are nearby, then you'll hear the famous echo!
We are surrounded on three sides by National Forest land. There is plenty of climbing nearby, hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, including Miller Gulch, and Lake Wellington is just a few miles away. We have a 14 shot disc golf course on the property.
While we are remote, we’re only 15 minutes from restaurants and stores in Bailey. Cell reception is limited in the area, so come prepared to unplug. If needed, cell service is available about half a mile away.

The 160 acre ranch was homesteaded by my grandfather over 100 years ago. He was an engineer.

The plan was to use this property as summer grazing for his cattle. The cattle were wintered at the other ranch about 10 miles away, which was homesteaded by my great grandfather.
Because my grandfather could survey, he made sure the property lines zigzaged up the valley so the small creek was in the middle to provide water for the animals. He chose well. It is a beautiful, quiet place with elk, deer and wild turkeys. There are tons of wild flowers in the summer.
Columbines, the Colorado state flower, wild roses, paintbrushes and lots of wild chokecherries. With nice views of nearby mountains, open pastures, evergreen forests and aspen groves, it looks like it did 100 years ago. Plus, there are a couple of ponds for your dogs to cool off in. Since the first cattle, the ranch has also been home to goats, chickens, horses, and now more goats, alpacas and llamas. And of course the Great Pyrenees ranch dogs.
I had a house built a few years ago and live on the property full time. The ranch is surrounded by Pike National Forest with the Colorado Trail connecting the property in a number of places. Some of the highest ranked mountain bike trails are nearby. There are lots of places on and off the property to hike, mountain bike and ride your horse. Stoneyard Distillery, producing Beet Sugar Spirits since 2013. Taking its name from the old stoneyard surrounding it. Upstream from the confluence of the Eagle and Colorado Rivers, this site was chosen for it's private water source. Rocky Mountain water pulled directly from the river.
The Distillery sits on a 4000 year old lava flow from the Dotsero Volcano. This lava rock provides the vapor refining distillation packing in the still hand built by the owners. With it's scratch built process, Stoneyard distills the true Spirit of Colorado into every last drop.

Really enjoyed Sun Outdoors. Location is great for those visiting RMNP, Grand Lake, or just want a mountain get away. Sites are good sized with tons of amenities. My kids loved to bowling and arcade at the restaurant.
I do wish the sites had some trees to offer shade or privacy.
The campground was kept extremely clean during our stay. Overall we were very happy and look forward to future visits!

Max’s place is wonderful and he is so kind. We stopped by just for the night on a road trip through the area with our 36 ft fifth wheel. As long as you are prepared to boondock it’s a perfect place to stop for a night or two! Easy on and off the highway as well with quick food access in Gypsum about 8 minutes away.

We loved the quiet atmosphere at Stoneyard Distillery! There was plenty of room to park and the location is not far from the highway. We enjoyed the view, kayaking, and the nearby trails. No one was there when we arrived, but Max was quick to return our call, provided parking instructions, and made sure to meet us the next day.

The campsite was beautiful. The bathrooms were very clean. The shower was spacious and it was great having your own locking door. Make sure if you are in a camper that you have the capability of evening out your rig because the parking lot are a bit tilted in many of the spots. The Mountain views were stunning, and the host was very friendly.

Ray is a cool dude, personable and welcoming, and he was very accommodating to my dog and I. He has some really beautiful property in the midst of the pike national forest with lots of great hiking, fishing and mountain biking in the area.
The spot was level with 30 amp and water hook ups right there. It is a challenge to get a longer rig in there. It would be easier to back in from the road but it is possible and worth it. The place is really quiet and peaceful making for a great getaway spot from the hustle and bustle of Denver.

Ray's set up is absolutely wonderful! We stayed 3 nights in our camper trailer and will definitely be back to stay here again in the future. Ray is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. It's a very quiet and peaceful spot just about a 15ish minute drive to Wellington lake.
