With this site being around 3000 feet from the reservoir you will be able to enjoy all the amazing views and amenities the reservoir has to offer without the crowded camp grounds. You will need a park pass to access the reservoir but not to camp on the land. A 1/4 mile down the road is access to nation forest for going off road or get a parks pass and fish at one of the many amazing fisheries in the area like Eleven mile, Spinney and Eleven mile canyon. The south shore boat ramp is less than 4 miles away. This area does get windy so be careful setting up awnings and pop up tents or anything the wind likes to blow away. The site has a slight pitch but leveling out your camper should be relatively easy. No trees on the land to block your 360 degree mountain views.

COLORADO WINTER TRAVEL: There is a possibility of snowy roads anytime from September through March. It's such fickle weather. One day can be sunny and 50 degrees and the next day a 6-inch snowfall. Generally, the roads clear up within a day or two of a snowfall so the impact isn't too troublesome. If you rent our place in this time frame, good all season tires are advisable. Our driveway is fairly flat and the county road to the house is plowed often. If there is a snowfall during your stay, we will have the driveway plowed out if we get more than 4 inches of snow and after the snow has stopped falling. If a snowfall lasts more than a single day, we may have it plowed out each day of a snowfall if more than 4 inches accumulate. Use caution during any snowfall as ground can become unexpectedly slippery. Message us if you have any issues.

I bought this land to move from Houston Learn more about this land: In by 2PM, out be 2PM No water on site. I widened the gate and moved my mailbox for easier access. Butane fire rings allowed on private property during a fire ban . Camp anywhere on 60 acres. In one direction there are rolling meadow. Another rocky outcropping. Look to the south and you’ll see the BLM land that shares my fence line. If you want access to town you’re there. You choose how you want to feel. In the woods, in the forest, on huge rocks, flat land or turn around and see CR 1 ( 1/4 mile driveway). Forty five minutes west of Colorado Springs, ten miles to Divide for grocers. One half mile to ice, gas, pizza etc.  It is first come first serve with the sites.  Two that are near trees for large RVs.  One up higher works for pull thru trailers.  Plenty of room in the pasture.  I just got my first negative review referring to it being dry prairie land.  Some  pictures are from late last summer..  We haven’t had enough rain yet for it to green up.  Also it can be windy.

Once a gargantuan ranch, this section of South Park has been subdivided into residential and recreational lots so more of us can enjoy the local beauty, and remains sparsely populated. Learn more about this land Enjoy exclusive use of this six-acre spread which features trees, rock outcroppings, and absurd mountain views. Remote yet accessible by county road, the property is a few miles from Hartsel, where you'll find a general store and saloon, and the other historic railroad settlements of Park County. (Learn about the South Park National Heritage Area at southparkheritage.org.) New for 2026: a tent pad for a level night's sleep! Otherwise the property is gently sloped and has wooded areas for exploring. All supplies (including water) must be packed in, and all waste packed out. I stashed a collapsible picnic table behind the big rock and you're welcome to use that, please just fold it and stash it again. There are no structures at all on the property. Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you may not relieve yourself outdoors; you must be in a vehicle or privacy tent. There is a fire ring. If you intend to make a camp fire, YOU MUST LET ME KNOW so I can call the Hartsel Fire Department. They will then tell me if there's a burn ban in place and I will relay that info to you. This must be done no later than 24 hours before you plan to burn. Hipcamp will sometimes turn on my fire ban based on data from the National Weather Service. The only way to know the full situation is for me to call Hartsel FD. If you see some expensively outfitted motorcyclists cruise by, they're from the Rawhyde Training Camp up the road so give them a wave!

At 3.9 miles, turn left (East) onto lightly used Shawnee Trail (Note: On occasion due to County grading on CR 53, there will be a small mound to drive over as you enter this left turn). Proceed about one-quarter mile (and past the the POSTED NO TRESPASSING sign just inside the property entrance) to the campsite a bit further on the left.

Thousand Peaks Ranch Campground in Hartsel has Scenic Mountains, is a getaway and a home away from home for many users. The campsites are best suited for tents and RV stops. Some of the campsites are close to stunning views and you can sleep every night to the sounds of coyotes and other animals. We are very close to many places where you can find a river to fish, take a walk in nature or take a quick dip in the cold waters. Thousand Peaks Ranch Primitive Campground is a 40-acre site each with a table, fire pit and grill. There is a fee for its use and the stay limit is three weeks. We have well water to supply your shower and are located close to the center of the camp. Thousand Peaks Ranch offers a group campsite with 8 separate group campsites. These sites vary in size: Group sites 1, 2, and 7 ($40/ night) can accommodate between 10 and 25 people per site. Group sites 3-6 ($80/night) can accommodate between 25 and 50 people per site. Group Site 8 ($120/night) accommodates up to 75 people. Each site is equipped with 1 or 2 picnic tables and a Fire Pit. There is a large field area in the center of these sites that can be used for group activities. Please keep in mind that we are a primitive campground. Propane fire pit usage may also be restricted by current conditions or state/county restrictions! Fresh eggs are available for purchase (when the girls are cooperating) by the dozen, or half dozen (see "extras"). You are welcome to go "visit" the chickens. Their coop is next to the large blue shop/barn. *UPON ARRIVAL at the property, please WAIT INSIDE our main gate (unless otherwise directed via prior communication with host). The host(s) will meet you there shortly after passing through the gate and direct you to your site. ----------------------- Camp Penguin at Wandering Penguin Ranch (facebook.com/CampPenguin) in southern Colorado is about a 3 hour drive from the Denver metro area, two hours from Colorado Springs and just under an hour north west of Canon City. We provide a variety of site options to choose from including tent sites, car/van/truck sites, and rustic trailer site options - all with NO amenities (NO electric/septic/water, etc). Additional vehicle parking on the property can be accommodated for groups with more than one vehicle. Please provide type of camper/tent and number of vehicles at booking so hosts can help direct you to the best site option available. Guests can relax around our small pond or roam freely around our 35-acre property. There is both hiking and fishing at Badger Creek only a short drive away. Waugh Mountain State Trust Land is another hiking option and is also just a short drive up the road (*NOTE: the State of Colorado now requires a valid hunting/fishing license to access state trust lands)! Additionally, we are about 45-90 minutes away from a variety of alternative adventures! Some of these include Salida, Cripple Creek, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Paradise Cove Swimming Hole, Florissant Fossil Beds, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, Manitou Incline, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience, several rafting/zipline and Jeep tour companies, Westcliffe, Bishop Castle and Canon City including Skyline Drive, Tunnel Drive, Royal Gorge Train, Museum of Colorado Prisons and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. Any of these can be done as a day trip or visited while on your way here, or home. (*NOTE: some of these attractions are free, some require a fee and some are seasonal. To avoid disappointment, PLEASE do your own research prior to arrival)! Guests need to be self-sustaining to camp here as there are no facilities nearby (gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.)! We absolutely loved this place, I wish we could have stayed longer. It was a very beautiful place with lots of mule deer. The deer sometimes hanging out 15-20 ft from the camper. The price was a little higher than I thought it should be since there was not much area to hike or walk trails however, we would stop there again as it was one of our favorite places on this road trip.

I have no clue how we didn’t know about this place sooner! I don’t think I have been so happy with an RV spot for a while. Not only the sites are great , but if you have a horse , you can bring it too ? Wow ! On top of that , there is shooting range on the property, tower where you can look at the stars , you can stay in a cabin , tiny home , RV or a tent . Want to try riding a horse ? They offer lessons , and if that isn’t your gem , you can rent an ATV or simply go for a round of pool in rec center. Did I mention hot tub and sauna ? Yeah , they have that too!

Weekend Trip to Casitas Amigas at K-Bar Ranch

Stayed here in mid-October at the Boondock Tent Site, which is a large area of heavy gravel that is quite level on top of a little bit of hill. Given the exposure, we were subjected to some hellacious winds for the first day and a half, which isn't unusual in the mountains, but the flip side of that is some great views. The ranch has a large corral area nearby with the cutest cohort of goats, mini-donkeys, a horse, and two Great Pyrenese guard dogs, one of which roamed the property and was super sweet and friendly, but well trained enough to leave you alone if you told it too. We appreciated that the animals were kept in their own space, as we've stayed at other ranches where the animals ran amok through our campsite at all hours of the day and night pooping all over the place. This is much better! While we didn't use the common area a ton, there was a propane fire there and some cornhole games. Guffey Gorge was a nice hike. The town is tiny but charming, and Canon City isn't too much of a drive either. Generally speaking, we enjoyed our stay there and would definitely do so again.

Absolutely gorgeous place if you need/want to disconnect and truly enjoy some peace and quiet. The huge fire pit with log seats, hanging grill and picnic table was great and we appreciated the thoughtful wood pieces left behind to use for the campfire. Arthur is super responsive and the views both in the morning and at night were stunning.

The view of the mountains from my camp site was breathtaking. Depending on the part of the day can be a bit windy. The noise from the trucks pulling boats and what not was noisy. The facilities were amazing. Park is well kept.

Best location on the lake, but the ants were so bad at our campsite. Couldn’t stand still for more than a minute without getting an ant bite. Same problem when launching our kayaks. If we stopped walking all the way to the water we got bit.

There's no showers at this spot but it is amazing. Also plenty of picnic tables. Bring a canopy or pavilion as there is a lot of sun & not a lot of shade. Some of the camping spots are right up on the reservoir so very nice!

Howbert Point

Truly a beautiful location but maybe better for a stop at lunch or if you have a boat to get out there to see the whole lake and the rocky outcrops. Fishing is bad off the shore, water is shallow and filled with weeds. No paths. There is one above ground toilet and fellow campers like to prop the door open. Why??? Also no one picks up after dogs OR horses. Strong wind in the late afternoon.
