Sweetwater River Resort is located right on the Arkansas River, 30 minutes from Canyon City and 30 minutes from Salida where Hwy 50 follows the river through Bighorn Canyon. Skiers, we are only 40 miles from Monarch Ski Resort. We do offer fly fishing lessons and fly rod rentals on arrival. Sweetwater is the perfect getaway for anglers, hikers, rafters or nature-lovers. You’ll find uncrowded sites to unwind on our private 1/2 mile stretch of the Arkansas. At night you’ll find the clearest skies around, perfect for stargazing. Experience a range of accommodations at Sweetwater River Resort, from budget-friendly cabins to glamping tents to old-timey cabins and RV sites. For larger groups, we offer a spacious house overlooking the Arkansas River, all just a short distance from the river itself. Sweetwater is a short drive from 45 miles of 4x4 and ATV trails at Texas Creek, the Arkansas Headwaters Hiking Area, Vallie Bridge, Loma Linda, Lone Pine, Hayden Creek, Royal Gorge and Rainbow Trail near Westcliffe. It's the perfect base for river rafting trips throughout the season as well as a private stretch of blue-ribbon water for trout fishing. Mule Deer is one of the biggest and most private spots in the park with tons of pine and spruce canopy for shade. There's a rock outcrop that forms a shallow cave only feet from the river - a great place to sit and take in some world-class sunsets or stargazing. For the hikers or stroll-enjoyers, there's a trail that starts next to the site that goes to the end of the property (roughly a quarter-mile, maybe a little more).

Visitors can also enjoy nearby activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, boating, off-roading, stargazing, and wildlife viewing.

If you were any closer to the water you'd be in it. The Pioneer Cabins 2 is a private rustic cabin with a deck, right next to the river with electricity and running water. Both Pioneer Cabins are 100 year old cabins from an old summer camp near Westcliffe. The park bathhouse with showers is next to the office. Pioneer 2 sleeps 4 with two queen beds, sink, heater, mini-refrigerator and microwave. Has an outside charcoal grill, campfire ring and picnic table. Water is turned off over winter.

Pioneer 1 is a nice and shady and secluded cabin with a canopy of cedars and natural rock formations that lead down to a perfect spot to sit in a camp chair and dangle your feet in the Arkansas River or catch some trout. It's a rustic cabin - about a hundred years old - with 2 queen beds, electricity, sink/running water, mini fridge and microwave and elect. heater for cooler evenings. We have public restrooms and showers just a short walk to the office. Also has a grill, fire ring and picnic table. Water is turned off over winter.

There are not words to describe the views from our cabin! Hosts were so kind and friendly. I was worried that the cabin would not be warm enough but the heater provided put off way more than enough heat. You’re missing out if you don’t stay here !

I had a fantastic time in Pioneer 2. The beds were clean. Though it was cold outside, the cabin was nice and toasty. The views were amazing. Lastly, the hosts were nice, quick to respond and very accommodating. Im going back for sure. Thanks!!!

Loved it! As advertised, great little cabin in awesome location. Me and my 6 year old son went for the weekend. Hiked the local mountains in the day, camp fires at night. Went November 7, but still wasn’t too cold in the cabin at all. Highly recommend .

This is a budget friendly place to camp. The hosts were helpful, and the bathrooms were actually quite clean. Old, but clean. Hwy noise is a bit of an issue, but does quiet down a bit after 8 pm or so. The river was very lovely, and my kids loved the suspension bridge. The camp sites are very close to each other though, so if you don’t like to be that close to people, you may want to look elsewhere. Overall, this was a great place I would go to again, but would stay in Corral 1 instead of 2. Corral 2 was difficult to get power and water since they were on the opposite side of our camper and had no tree shade like 1 did.

Sweetwater was such an incredible time! The cabin was perfect and setting was even better. My husband and pup spent two days here and wish we could have stayed longer!! Only critique was that it certainly wasn’t private. The neighboring cabins are super close, and several kids fishing just kept walking through our area and even using our front to fish. Not a big issue, but something to keep in mind if you’re looking for something private!

We are new to camping and this place was perfect for us. The host were very nice and accommodating as well ..our stove went out but the host provided us loaner stove as well for free. My 3 year old wanted to fishing ..the host provided that to us too …one small issue is that its right next to a highway so some road noise during day …but other than that the place is awesome.

A perfect little get away if you’re not into tents or don’t own Motorhome! Cozy little cabin, bathroom and shower are a very short walk and are really clean! Right on the water! Beautiful!

Overall awesome experience and great for our 2 pups! Nice to wake up to the running water. Campsites close together and right off the road so doesn't have the secluded feel. But we got what we paid for especially booking on a Friday and staying that Saturday!

The location was perfect for our nephews fly fishing needs. Close to many great pull offs for fishing. The pull thru sites are close to River access and big trees in between. We stayed in corral #1 and it worked for our truck camper and nephew’s tent. Much more space in pull thru spots. The restrooms are old and showers are small. The traffic noise is an issue in the day time.

Tree his place was beautiful but right on 50 and the traffic was noisy. Our cabin was definitely dated and while I didn’t mind that the men’s shower/bathroom situation wasn’t up to par for the amount we laid. Most KOAs or cabin sites are usually bare but clean. The cabin itself was clean and fine. The grounds were cool and we loved the bridge walkway. It was a quick stop as we were van camping through Colorado and since we were just looking for a spot to clean up it was a bit disappointing but for other intentions it could be spectacular!

Sweetwater River Resort is a very nice campground. We stayed at the far end of the campground in site Riverside #8 and had a great view of the Arkansas River. The campground was clean and very peaceful.

Easy to get to. Loved staying by the river. I actually had weak cell service without being on WiFi. Noticeable road noise until about 8 pm but after that not a problem. Hot water for a shower!

What a pleasure it was to stay here. Weather was perfect and the cabin was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We're not the most outdoorsy family so we only stayed one night to try it out. We all wish we would have booked 1 or 2 more nights, will definitely return. Thank you!

I stayed in Pioneer Cabin 1 and it was such an amazing stay. Great little piece of land surrounded by trees but still with great views of the river below. River was just a few steps down a small hill. Easy access to swim and relax in the river. Had two chairs, a fire pit, two charcoal grills and a picnic table. I was able to sling a hammock from two of the trees with a great view overlooking the river. The cabin was great. Very charming, comfortable, and clean. A plus to have a small refrigerator, a microwave, coffee maker and running water with a sink. I would absolutely return. It was a really wonderful getaway from the city. Thank you so much!!

Absolutely loved this beautiful little resort. It was so peaceful and from the very first check in, the sweet man checking me in was kind and super helpful, pull through sites are so easy to maneuver, GORGEOUS views of the river and rocky terrain, large trees covering most sites, and everyone there was respectful, quiet and nice. Such a beautiful, peaceful weekend.

Great campground right next to the river. It was me and my dog in a small camper. The campsite was nice and level. Being next to the river was relaxing. There's a cool bridge to cross over to the other side. Lots of campers were fishing in the river. Everyone was nice. And the other campers were quiet at night and in the morning, so I got some great rest. Great stargazing at night. The campsite had a grill and picnic table and electric and water hookups as promised. The wifi was pretty good. The restrooms were clean. And the staff were nice. The campground is right off the highway, so if you require zero road noise, this is not the place for you. But the sound of the river mostly drowns it out, so I didn't mind.
