Sweetwater River Resort is located right on the Arkansas River, 30 minutes from Canyon City and 30 minutes from Salida where Hwy 50 follows the river through Bighorn Canyon. Skiers, we are only 40 miles from Monarch Ski Resort Sweetwater is the perfect getaway for anglers, hikers, rafters or nature-lovers. You’ll find uncrowded sites to unwind on our private 1/2 mile stretch of the Arkansas. At night you’ll find the clearest skies around, perfect for stargazing. Experience a range of accommodations at Sweetwater River Resort, from budget-friendly cabins to glamping tents to old-timey cabins and RV sites. For larger groups, we offer a spacious house overlooking the Arkansas River, all just a short distance from the river itself. Sweetwater is a short drive from 45 miles of 4x4 and ATV trails at Texas Creek, the Arkansas Headwaters Hiking Area, Vallie Bridge, Loma Linda, Lone Pine, Hayden Creek, Royal Gorge and Rainbow Trail near Westcliffe. It's the perfect base for river rafting trips throughout the season as well as a private stretch of blue-ribbon water for trout fishing. Group Tent sits as close to the Arkansas River as you can get without falling in with plenty of room in the shade to stretch out and enjoy the view. Room for 3-4 big tents, canopies and hammocks. We also allow teardrop trailers, rooftop campers and vans (no hookups, though). Perfect for fishing and/or relaxing.

For 2025 we eliminated 2 tent sites - from 8 to 6 - to give campers more space. The Individual sites are located across the river, accessible by suspension bridge so there is a little work up front hauling your gear across the river but we do have a hand cart to help. If you're not up for the short hike over the river, the Corral Sites might be what you're looking for. Every site has a fire ring, picnic table and sits right on the bank of the Arkansas River. You won't be assigned a specific site - you're guaranteed a site, but not a specific one. One tent per site.

New for 2025, Mule Deer Group Site accommodates Sprinter vans and rooftop campers. Or, just park and pitch a tent. Mule Deer is one of the biggest and most private spots in the park with tons of pine and spruce canopy for shade. There's a rock outcrop that forms a shallow cave only feet from the river - a great place to sit and take in some world-class sunsets or stargazing. For the hikers or stroll-enjoyers, there's a trail that starts next to the site that goes to the end of the property (roughly a quarter-mile, maybe a little more).

If you were any closer to the water you'd be in it. The Pioneer Cabins 2 is a private rustic cabin with a deck, right next to the river with electricity and running water. Both Pioneer Cabins are 100 year old cabins from an old summer camp near Westcliffe. This cabin sleeps 4 with two queen beds, sink/cold running water, heater, mini-refrigerator and microwave. Toilets and Showers are located in the Bathhouse next to the office. Has an outside charcoal grill, campfire ring and picnic table.

If the campsite has away for some shade over the table . Didn't like the only way to the campsite was going on a very small bridge. If there is cabins with no indoor plumbing then your resort needs a bigger restroom/shower facility.

Sweetwater Ranch was exactly the kind of weekend reset we were hoping for. The location was peaceful, private, and perfect for a fishing trip, and we really appreciated having a cabin to come back to after spending the day on the river. The rocking chair out front was such a nice touch and ended up being one of our favorite little parts of the stay. The only thing I’d gently recommend is that the cabin be checked over before the next guests arrive. When we got there, it looked like it may have been missed between stays, so we did a quick clean, stripped the beds, and got ourselves settled in. Nothing that ruined the trip by any means, but a quick reset beforehand would have made the stay feel perfect. Overall, we’re really grateful for the space and the chance to slow down, fish, enjoy the sun, and make some great memories. Thank you for hosting us — we’d definitely come back in the future!

We stayed at Corral #1. It is beautiful and right by the Arkansas River. We would sit and watch wildlife activity on the river. The managers were available and helpful (we purchased ice from the camp store). It was nice to have flushing toilets and showers available. The road is right behind the camp and you can hear the traffic (but at night we played white noise and it did a good job blocking it out). We enjoyed our stay!

This is a good beginner camping spot. They had restrooms with a shower, WiFi, and trash cans not too far from the site. The spot is easy to find which is both a pro and con. You’re right next to the road, so the sound can wake you up if you sleep light.

Wide range of accommodations so you can either primitive camp or Lamp or stay in a cabin or stay in a little lodge so it's good for that. I always stay in the pioneer cabins because they're right on the river. It's perfect for my son and I to celebrate his 21st birthday fly fishing on the river.

Such a great little cabin! We had an amazing stay and didn't want to leave. The river, mountain views and cozy campfire setup made it feel like the perfect escape. The star gazing at night was spectacular. It was peaceful, relaxing, and exactly what we were looking for. Even though there are other people camping around, it felt extremely secluded. We'll definitely be back!

We love every stay here. The staff is friendly, the park is small, quiet and clean. The pull-through sites are specious and the river is peaceful! Like many parks in this corridor, it’s right on the road but you barely notice. We can’t wait to come back.

If you’re tall the bathrooms are cramped clean enough but no doors on the showers just curtains and the locked door is left open often it gets stuck kinda creepy because the bathroom face a major highway, the tent area is full of cow poop and no real dedicated sites or trees so if it were fully booked people would just be tracing through your area to get to theirs, the bridge is neat except when you have to go in the middle of the night which I know just pee in the woods well the rv spots all face the tent spots so yeah, but if you don’t care about any of that then the river is the only plus very nice.

This place was so beautiful. A hidden gem I like to call it. The host was very kind and greeted us upon arriving with a nice welcome and map for us. So many different types of camping options here. We walked by all of them and they were all well kept and overlooked the river. We didn’t want to leave.

Beautiful spot right on the water! Definitely rustic but a great value for the price and had everything we needed. The owners were very nice! Great privacy for Pioneer Cabin 2. Kids enjoyed walking across the swinging bridge. Beautiful moonlit sky to enjoy the evenings. If you're fussy about linens or cush pillows, bring your own. We were there during a heat wave in late March and it was quite warm in the cabin. The oscillating fan was a lifesaver but it doesn't hit one corner of the beds. If it's peak summer, you may wanna throw in a second one. The coffee pot is a nice touch and fridge and microwave too! Made for a low maintenance quick getaway from the city and a short, scenic drive to Salida. Crucial that it was pet friendly as we love being able to bring our doggos. Would definitely come back. Thanks for having us!

Hosts were cool and friendly. Pics of camp sights featured sun shades that hosts said were “unavailable until after May 1st” due to weather concerns. Bullshit. The sunshades just weren’t on site. Sad ending for a cool campsite . Won’t consider a return visit, we left a day early…

We had an excellent experience at Sweetwater! Our host responded promptly to all of our questions and it was great to have bathrooms available. We loved that we had picnic tables and a fire ring. It might help to warn guests that there are stairs on the opposite side of the river since we had our wagon and didn't realize until we crossed in the dark that we had to carry it down stairs. We definitely plan to return in the future! So beautiful!

It’s a beautiful place. Clean and well maintained by the wonderful people who own it. Listening to the river and geese was relaxing. Yes, the road is near and you hear the cars and trucks but it’s in a river canyon so we just ignored that and enjoyed ourselves. Good places to eat nearby (check out the MUG) and a good base camp location for anything in or around Colorado Springs. 10/10 will return.
