We are conveniently located off of US 101, therefore there may be some freeway noise, during commute hours especially. It has become like white noise to me, but it is only fair to mention it. We offer full hookups which consists of 50 amp & 110 volt electrical outlets, potable water, sewage dump. We also have one pigtail available (with a refundable deposit) if needed to convert 50 amp to 30 amp. We also have one place in the middle of our big vineyards with a 30 amp and water only. No sewer. Our sites are located one mile from Healdsburg plaza, the heart of Sonoma County Wine Country. Our town offers amazing wineries, fantastic restaurants, and quaint shops. It is an excellent place for wine lovers. There is a pre-prohibition winery right across the road called Foppiano. There are many other fabulous wineries are nearby. Ask the host for discount passes or complimentary tasting cards for some of the local wineries. We are in an excellent location for outdoor adventurers. There are plenty of hiking trails near by as well as bike rental shops for those who enjoy trekking, and even a couple of rafting places right here on the Russian River. We are close to places like Armstrong Woods, Safari West, Getaway Adventures, The Sonoma County Fairgrounds which hosts the Summer Country Concerts among other events, Harmony Festival, Santa Rosa Full Camp; Half Marathons Camp; 5K, Sonoma Zip-line Adventures, and Much More! 1 night at Stemple Creek Ranch

After a week in the bustle of Carmel and Carmel Valley we needed a quiet place to stay going north. A three plus hour drive to the ranch was enough. Having a perfect place to camp by ourselves and not having to deal with anyone was ideal. A few cows came up the fence and checked us out. The night was dark and very quiet and being treated as a capable adults and taking care of ourselves was ideal. Will definitely stay there again.

The staff were very helpful and polite. I only wish they would mention on their website they no longer provide fire rings. You will have to bring your own if you want to have a fire. The pool was clean and everyone seemed happy to be there. Note to self. We will make sure to place our RV the farthest point possible away from the road. We could hear cars whizzing by at night.

We loved the campsite. It was close to town and wineries. Lorri the owner was very nice. She sells her olive oil she makes from the trees on her property. I would defiantly recommend staying here. Our site was Vineyard site B-1. She gave us suggestions on wineries to visit and restaurants.

We took a pre-school class camping at Tyler’s place! We really had a great time. The kitchen and bathroom worked great even though we had close to 30 people at max. The donkeys and cows were a huge hit. The property provided plenty of space to roam and explore so the kids had a great time. The hike to the creek was a bit more intense than we realized but the creek itself was great! Just a very big climb back to home. Overall both the kids and the adults had a spectacular time and we plan to come again

We had an amazing time at this fantastic campground! The location is beautiful, super private and peaceful, with lovely sunsets and sunrises. The stars at night were spectacular with no light pollution. Plenty of space for our group of four families to spread out, and the kids had a great time and loved the donkeys and Highland cows. It was very helpful having a fridge, toilet/shower, gas fire, and camp stove on site. Tyler, the owner, was very helpful and welcoming. He met us when we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing, family-friendly place to camp!

We very much enjoyed the Hipcamp. It was within walking distance to a winery. Lorri gave us a lot of coupons for tastings and we used several of them. The area is quiet, close to town and very clean and wonderful. Loved being by the vineyard on the day they harvested the grapes. Highly recommend this beautiful place

We had such a wonderful stay at Tyler’s campground while celebrating a birthday with family! Tyler was an above-and-beyond host—so responsive, helpful, and thoughtful. The natural spring water throughout the property was so fresh and delicious, and we all loved meeting Banjo and Jenny, the donkeys, who greeted us with excited heehaws when we arrived. When we realized we forgot a coffee grinder, Tyler came to the rescue, which made our mornings that much better. The waterfall was incredible, especially in the hot and dry weather—it was refreshing and absolutely worth the trek down, ripe blackberry bushes lined the trail halfway down providing a delightful pick-me-up. We’d love to come back. Thank you, Tyler, for making our stay so special!

Tylar is a lovely guy—don’t hesitate to talk with him because he responds quickly and clearly to any questions. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at WCR! Great place for a group (we were eight). So quiet and peaceful, far from civilization, that you can truly enjoy stargazing. The facilities were great (who doesn't appreciate a full fridge with an ice maker while camping), and we all loved hanging out with the donkeys. Easy to prepare meals for a big group, and appreciated having both gas and charcoal grills.The "casita" on the property that Tyler built is great, with kitchen space (toaster!), bathroom, shower, and a hangout area. Tyler was so responsive to any messages and provided a cell phone at the space, should you have any questions. Definitely don't rely on GPS. Tyler's driving instructions in his message were key; it's a windy way up to the ranch, even with all of the signage for WCR that Tyler has posted. Be cautious and take your time when arriving after dark, given the windy nature of the roads.

We camped at Canyon Creek for a relaxing little getaway. The setting was peaceful, and the small on-site store was a nice surprise we even found these fun, colorful drinks that added fun vibes. We were a bit disappointed that the hot tub was out of service, since that was one of the main reasons we booked. The pool was a nice backup, though it could use a debris catcher to keep it cleaner. The Wi-Fi worked for basic browsing, but not for streaming. Overall, we enjoyed the stay and would go back just better prepared next time.

Very nice camp spot for larger groups. Enjoyed the quiet space, nature feel, and amenities on site: plenty parking, fridge/freezer, toilet, shower, food prep area. The hike to the flowing creek is a bit challenging - suggest 4wd vehicle, but well worth it. We frolicked an afternoon through the creek with water shoes picking blackberries with our kids.

Where to go

North Bay

Head to the coast to camp at Point Reyes National Seashore, where options include a boat-in campground and several hike-in sites. Just inland, camp along the Russian River at Austin Creek State Recreation Area. Camp among the redwoods at Samuel P. Taylor State Park. Explore Muir Woods, or choose from walk-in tent sites and rustic bluffside cabins at Mount Tamalpais State Park. There are four campgrounds on the Marin Headlands in Marin county, including three free, primitive backpacking campgrounds. China Camp State Park offers a scenic campground in the woodlands.

Wine Country

Head to wine country for tastings and scenic camping, often with access to cabins and full hookups. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park in Sonoma County offers a family-friendly campground, while the Skyline Wilderness Park near Napa offers tent, RV, and equestrian sites. Enjoy lakeside campsites with mountain views at Spring Lake Regional Park near Santa Rosa. Further north, you can camp near redwoods and a pretty stream at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, or choose from tent, RV, walk-in, and boat-in sites at Lake Sonoma. Near Lake Berryessa, options include campsites around the lake, Lake Solano Park and Lower Hunting Creek on BLM land.

San Francisco and South Bay

In San Francisco, groups can stay at walk-in campsites at the Presidio. Further south, camp near the beach at pretty Half Moon Bay State Beach. For solitude and hike-in campsites, head to Pescadero Creek County Park. There are also plenty of options for camping among the redwoods, including at Butano Redwoods State Park, Memorial County Park, Portola Redwoods State Park, Big Basin Redwoods State Park, and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.

East Bay

In the East Bay, head to Mount Diablo State Park to enjoy sweeping views and three different campgrounds. At Del Valle Regional Park, enjoy water play, a variety of outdoor recreation. Overnight options include both cabins and campsites, including some RV sites with full hookups. Camp on the hillside at Anthony Chabot Regional Park with lake views or backpack into the Sunol Regional Wilderness for solitude, hikes, and wildflowers.

When to go

Spring to fall offers the most pleasant weather in Novato. From May to September, a popular farmer’s market is held weekly. Summer also sees a series of outdoor concerts and several car races. In the fall, outdoor movies are popular. Visit in the winter to forage for mushrooms. Special family-friendly events are held near the Christmas holidays.

Know before you go

There is some public transportation in and around Novato, but a car will make it easier to visit other areas in the region.
Reservations are required for certain campgrounds, and it’s best to book ahead, especially over the summer.
Permits may be required for mushroom foraging and some parks do not permit it.
Many parts of the northern California coast are not safe for swimming and there are very few lifeguards on duty.
